HOW TO GET HIM TO DO ANYTHING

Look, I have been featured in the Williams Sonoma catalog! Actually I cut and pasted (as in with scissors and Elmer's Glue} a picture of myself and carefully inserted it in this picture. This is the kitchen island I want and I want it bad. In the cartoon bubble, (this picture will enlarge when you click on it), I expressed my desire (note: I wrote Pottery Barn in error) for this piece, especially given that I have put up with him...er, have been loving him for the past 25 years. Yes, Our anniversary is in December. And if I order it soon, I may have it by then. Now isn't this a clever idea? So I suggest you do the same. Play cutouts with your old photos and whatever your heart desires, just paste yourself in or show yourself holding it. The Husband got a kick out of it and I am pretty sure I will be ordering it in a few days. Isn't it a gorgeous piece?
The other night we had a carpenter come out and give us quotes for our kitchen. You might notice that I don't share many pictures of it...it is slowly falling apart. The custom pine cabinets have become brittle and doors have cracked right off the hinges. Apparently our hinges were popular in the dinosaur days. There are spaces between the doors and the knobs are outdated (I'm just really tired of them). And we need new counter tops, of the stone variety.
So next week I am on a mission. The carpenter has been hired and repairs will start while I look at counter tops. I'd really love wood (too much maintenance per The Husband), or soapstone (not enough shine), and I really haven't seen a granite that I have fallen head over heels for. But it's all exciting and I can't wait to share pictures with you as this unfolds.
I won a giveaway from Barb at The French Elements. This set of Bobbi Brown makeup brushes, which the girls promptly tried to steal from me, and...
...and a pillow and 2 tea towels that Barb made. She sells them online in her shop, so visit her blog and see some great French inspired treasures. I also won a can of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and already have a project lined up. Thanks so much, Barb.

This has been the sort of week that has ebbed and flowed. Some days were very relaxing and I didn't even get out of the PJ's, others I ran errands all day. The Husband left today to spend the weekend with his brothers up at the lake. They are going to the Notre Dame game tomorrow. Are you a football fan? I can live without it. After this weekend I will be back up there again and I am looking forward to seeing the trees change color and feel fall in the air. Can't wait. The Husband will be home Sunday and maybe we will invite the kids over for a cookout...no concrete plans. Tell us what you are doing this holiday weekend! :-)

Hi Janie,
I had to laugh at your cut and paste. I did that once with a Ralph Fiennes photo after The English Patient for my best friend. Way to go!

I'm not a sports fan and luckily, neither is my husband.

We're going to Antiques by the Bay this weekend and just spending some together, but it's HOT here.

Have a great weekend, love days in jammies here, although they don't happen very often... maybe Monday!

Hi Jane, A very clever idea. The weekend will be quiet. We have a family wedding on Saturday evening and I am looking forward to seeing kids that I haven't seen for a while. I am not to much of a football fan, but I do watch some especially college football. Have fun picking out things for your new kitchen. It should be fun. Have a great weekend. Your Missouri Friend.

Well, I hope you get your island to go along with your kitchen makeover! 25 LONG years is worth something!!!

I love the island and it will be so much fun trying to figure out what you are going to do in the kitchen. I had wood countertops one time and they are a LOT of work-if you like things looking "newish"...I wanted soapstone here too but got nixed on the idea by the hubster and my friend who has them...I even like the poured concrete (polished) but ended up with granite in the end...and I do love it now.

Happy weekend! xo Diana

We are going to an antiques sale tomorrow then going out for brinch with some friends on Sunday, no plans for Monday yet. Have a nice long weekend!...Christine

Well, Jane...you added delight to my Friday evening! Your island is magnificent...and you look quite perfect next to it! I love that you shared your kitchen cabinets. Our house was built in 1979...my cabinets are made of a mystery pressed wood!
They are likely to be replaced in late 2012.

You know that I love college football. As a child we watched Notre Dame play every Saturday under the watch full eye of Touchdown Jesus. Now we root for Washington State, as Mr D and I have alot of our hard earned $$$ invested there!

Pamper yourself a little bit while the boys are gone! Your vanity is going to look so chic with your new brushes!

Haha, Jane! It's a good thing you say "kitchen island" or you might have wound up with the pasta maker sitting on top! : ) He should get it for you just for your cleverness in putting your picture in there.

Quiet for us, I think. Of course, I also thought I was getting my hair done Wednesday and then found out I was waiting for tv service, so there you go. I am having my yard sale Saturday that I had to cancel from last Saturday. Hoping that goes smoothly and quickly.

Jane,
I saw a square island in the shop where I have my antique booth. It is square but it is so fabulous. It has a worn wood top but the bottom is made from old white weathered window sashes, one on each side and then on four chunky legs. It is under $500 and has two shelves behind the windows that you can store things on. No panes in the windows. Am I describing it poorly!
I can't stop thinking about it.
It is amazing and somewhat rustic.
Let me know if you want me to draw it or explain it better for you.

Just in case you could use a square? I'm telling you, this piece is FABulous!!!

Alison @ The Polohouse said...

Oops. I forgot to mention that the top is a weathered look but is newly stained and sealed with a poly-coat of varnish. It's done and ready to move into a space. No work for whomever buys it!

When us girls want something (of the practical nature anyway)we almost always figure out how to get it. Yes indeed, the island is beautiful.

Granite is a funny thing. I love it so but there is some ugly stuff out there. When my friend had his house built he chose a granite that I swear looks almost like marble. It is the most beautiful granite I think I have ever seen.

Enjoy your weekend!
Hugs, Sue

P.S. The cutout is adorable and it is a great idea.

This reminds of last December when I used a program to insert hubby's face into a Santa Claus image and sent it to him. Confused the heck out of him! LOL!

I really need new kitchen flooring and counters. I don't know about a whole kitchen re-do for us though. Not just the money but the mess....yikes!

It is extremely quiet here this morning as our son and DIL came home a day early and retrieved our grandson. Aren't they selfish? ;-)

The pillow and tea towels that you won are adorable! Congratulations:>) I love the cut and paste, so necessary when the husband can't read your mind. I think it's an awesome idea and I'll be checking the catalogs for places to insert myself!
By the way, my sister-in-law got soapstone counters recently and while they are beautiful they scratch so easily that simply sliding a dish across them leaves a mark.
