HAPPY THANKSGIVING & A GIVEAWAY WINNER!

This will be a short post because I, like everyone else, am getting ready for Thanksgiving. I know some of you are much further along then me, but I'm just trying to BE in the moment. I picked Abigail up from school on Friday. That was a great day in spite of the long drive. I get motion sleepiness really bad, and that's okay if I am a passenger. Not so good if I am the driver. So I drove for over 2 hours with the radio blasting and the windows down. Thankfully it was an unseasonably warm day. She was so excited to see me and come home. So today we are off to buy the rest of our goodies for Thanksgiving dinner. We are having dinner here at home and then meeting up with the O'Hara side of the family for dessert. It is going to be a wonderful day. I know every one has different holiday traditions. We have our dinner about 3:00 p.m. The men are usually watching football, Emily is helping me set the table and set everything out and Abby is sticking her fingers in all the food. I thought I would give you my menu since I know geographically we all have a different one. Maybe mine is the usual Midwestern fare, maybe it is based on what my mother had with a few little twists...

22 lb. turkey basted with butter and lemon
Herb stuffing with sausage
Mashed potatoes with sour cream, cream cheese and gravy
Sweet potatoes with butter and brown sugar
Corn
Brussels sprouts
Celery stuffed with cream cheese and green olives
Cranberry sauce
Dinner rolls
Chocolate cherry cake

Now you know why we all take long naps after dinner!
We went to the lake this past weekend after missing 3 weekends in a row. Talk about withdrawal! And above you will see the BIG thing I was talking about in one of my recent posts. I finally got my Hoosier cabinet!! After searching high and low, in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan, where did I find it! Right here in a Chicago suburb! I am so in love with it. The owner of the antique store said it was probably from the 30's or 40's and it has the original flour bin and sifter. I rubbed this baby down with furniture oil and put a few pieces on it and in it. I'm still not sure what I will display with all of my favorite things spread out amongst both homes. You can see that monstrous Philomena Philodendron found a new home. I have my ironstone tea set outside and my new (old) French dishes inside. I can't wait to decorate it for Christmas!

And finally I took an updated picture of the kitchen because I now have my pulls and knobs on. Wow! Progress. Still a long way to go. Pardon all my stuff on the counters. Nothing staged and I say somewhat embarrassed, this is just me. I am a clutter bug. I have to have my small appliances out where I can see them and use them. The Husband just bought the new crock pot because he wants some nice warm meals cooking away on Sundays, the aroma drifting through the house. I like that too. And it frees me up to do whatever I want without worrying about dinner.
Finally I want to announce the winner of my giveaway. I pulled the number out of the proverbial hat and the winner is Lou Cinda of Tattered Hydrangeas! She will be receiving the note cards by Karen Harvey Cox of A Scrapbook Of Inspiration as well as some other goodies I will be picking out. Thanks everyone, for leaving their comments over the past two weeks.

Here is wishing everyone a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!

Your holiday dinner sounds yummy! I ADORE your Hoosier cabinet! Always wanted one of those. And Carpenter Robert has one in his warehouse just sitting there. I've threatened that if he doesn't start using it I'm going to take it away from him. Men. A Hoosier cabinet just sitting in a warehouse collecting dust. As I recall it wasn't in all that good of shape, BUT A HOOSIER CABINET all the same!

That cabinet is gorgeous! I need to get my sis-in-law blogging or at least reading blogs so she can see this.

You asked me about Debbie Macomber books. I have only read the Blossom Street series. I have always been drawn to the artwork on Macomber's books and when she started the knit shop series, I finally bought and read it. I haven't read her other series, mainly because I have such a backlog of reading at the moment. I do have a paperwork, the name escapes me, that isn't from the Blossom Street line so I will eventually discover whether I like her other books as well.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Oh! Jane! I just adore your hoosier! My friend (Diva) had one at her mothers home for sale. I couldnt beleive it didnt sell. It was in good shape. She donated to a chuch charity sale where they had priced it for $250!!! And it didnt sell. I couldnt believe it. It was painted green, I thought pretty though I know not everyones taste but at that price, it could afford to be stripped. They ended up donating to thrift. Had I had room for one more large piece, I would've. My gargae is already bulging. I too have clutter...
Jane, you did so good, its just beautiful and in a perfect spot.

I also have had you on my mind, since you and I shared kids going off to college this past year. Mine came home today. I cannot beleive the year has passed so quickly! I know you are so happy to have your baby home. Enjoy that time together! I know you will!

Your thanksgiving meal sounds delightful! Such great memories found around a table.

And finally, Jane I thought I was the only one who tires when I drive. It really happens when I drive, when I am a passenger not as much. I know my hsuband thinks I am trying to get out of driving, and I am, but for good reason. I dont want to end up in a ditch!

Jane, I count you on my list of blessing this Thanksgiving. Gald we found one another in bloggerville. I am blessed to call you friend. You are a good one to me! Have a wonderful weekend!

Mine old and has enamel top that pulls out and is painted.

Love the new hoosier! I have one that I keep packed full of antique or collectible dishes. We use ours when we have parties, as a serving area! Thanks for stopping by my White Wednesday Post. Just had to laugh though when you said you were torn between the name Emilie or Emma for your baby. Our daughter's name is Emilie and it's her baby who's named Emma! So, I guess we have one of each! Have a wonderful holiday weekend.

Hi Blondie!
Delighted you popped over to Bainbridge!
Do pop in and visit again!
I love the old hutch...it would have been perfect for our cottage back in Alabama...where we lived before moving to the Northwest. I created more of a coastal look in our new home on Bainbridge.
Before moving...I sold an old hutch...just like yours...it was shabbier tho...white with peeling paint...you know that shabby look! Delighted you popped by!
Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
Your menu sounds yummy!
I just popped on the computer to find a recipe for homemade cranberry sauce!

Sounds like a yummy Thanksgiving to me. I usually cook and have the family over but not this year. Since I had surgery I knew it would end up being STRESS and not FUN. We went out to eat. That's the first time in my life I've ever gone out to eat on Thanksgiving day but it was a nice change.

Have a great weekend. Hugs

Jane--Your menu sounds delicious and close to ours with a few small exceptions. We do not have brussel sprouts--the first time I served them to my husband he asked what was with the baby cabbage--he was a third child (not much green!) That cabinet is fabulous--I love that it has a flour bin and sifter. Reminds me of my grandmother's house. It's so beautiful--just stick a poinsettia on it and post that for Deck the Halls! Hope you had a wonderful TG and are having a good visit with your girls!
