Things are heating up in Kitchen Stadium. Not only have I started baking some cookies and such, I am trying my hand at candy. This is an easy one and only has 5 ingredients. I found it at Flower Patch Farmgirl and it is so simple and GOOD!
I modified the recipe because I used a 9 X 13 pan. Layer baby pretzels in a foil lined pan. Melt 3 sticks of butter in a pot and add 1 1/2 cups brown sugar. Cook at a low boil until it gets really dark. Pour over the pretzels and bake at 350 degrees for 5 minutes.
Take it out of the oven and while it's still hot, throw on a couple of handfuls of chocolate chips {I used this whole bag} and sprinkle on some sea salt. You have to play this by ear...I added too much salt so don't overdo it...maybe 2 teaspoons.
This is what it will look like. Put the pan in your freezer for a few hours and then break it up into pieces.
Be careful...it's addicting. Doesn't it look delicious? It really is. Have fun!
The days are counting down fast. Just when I thought I was getting bored {efficiency can lead to that, I have learned}, I volunteered to wrap presents for the late shoppers in my family. I actually like to wrap when I have a pile of it and all my supplies and paper out. Sort of like an assembly line. It brings out that teensy little bit of creativity that I have.
Abby and I went grocery shopping yesterday and it was nice to get out and about. I have been spending way too much time hunkered down with books and movies. People were friendly and cheery, I guess the big crunch time hasn't hit yet. I don't know what I am going to do with That Husband of mine...he has a list a mile long and he doesn't seem perturbed at all to get some shopping done, even on his lunch break or after work. He works in one of the biggest shopping capitals of the world! At least as far as I'm concerned. My goodness, the Mag Mile, Water Tower Place, Bloomingdales...it makes me break out into happy chills.

We have 3 holiday parties, as I have mentioned. All are somewhat casual but we always bling it up a bit. I bought a red silk top with a little sparkle around the neck. With nice jeans and black boots, I am now afraid I might look a bit like Santa {in more ways than one}. I'm not sure about that outfit, I never wear red, it washes me out. But then I have a black velvet top that I think will be pretty and for Christmas day I have a charcoal sweater dress. I can really lean toward being obsessive/compulsive about what I wear. I think everything is in the details.

So...today I am getting out my cookie cutters and making sugar cookies. And shortbread. And more candy, which I will share with you, maybe on Friday. In the meantime, try this pretzel/chocolate treat and email me if you have any questions. And I will see you later in the week! :-)

I'll bet that whatever you wear, you are beautiful Jane. I am like you though, I never wear red because my face kind of disappears (hmmm...maybe that's not a bad thing ;) I never thought of it that way))
You are cooking up a storm and I have been doing some of that myself. Too much I'm afraid, being now everyone is crying 'uncle'. Too much sugar in this house right now.
Wishing you the Merriest Christmas ever!!!

Wow the salted choclate trend hasn't caught on here is Australia yet but I bet it will. That looks great. Shame about too much salt. I do that kinda thing lots.

Good luck with the outfits. They sound pretty I love knitted dresses. My granny used to make them for me.

And most of all have a wonderful hoiday season and thanks for hangin' out with me this year...you seem like a lovely gal.

Hi Jane,
Those pretzel goodies look yummy and I might just give it a try.
I do not look good in red. I think it's because we are blonds and for some reason red isn't our color.
I bet you will look like a living doll in your party outfit. Take a picture and show us.

Denise said...

Hi Jane, looks like you're in full holiday mode :) It all looks yummy. I love wearing red, I bet you will look great.
Have a Happy Christmas.

That candy looks yummy. Your outfits all sound lovely to me, even the red one, but I know not everyone can wear that color. I hope your wrapping goes well, and sugar cookies sound perfect right about now!

The Merriest of Christmases to you and your family!

OMGOSH - That recipe sounds easy and I'll bet it IS just addictive! I'm with you- I very seldom wear red but when I do I get a ton of compliments on it. I think it showcases blond hair maybe?

I know you read a lot of the same blogs I do- Do you remember seeing a recipe for a pan stuffing/dressing a couple of days ago? I thought I had copied it to my files and didn't and now I can't find it! ggrrrr...

Hope your day is a good one! xo Diana

Hey Jane,
Those look delish! I haven't done one single bit of baking yet! I have babysat and babysat and then some. Addison calls me Momma too. Just the way things are right now, my daughter is doing her best but the dad sucks.
Today I took my Mom and Addison to the mall. My Mom shopped and I sat in the toddler play area the whole time.
I know you will look lovely in any of your outfits too!
Big Hugs friend,

The candy looks easy and delicious. Why oh why, did I decide to start my diet last week?

Tracy said...

Your pretzel candy looks scrumptious Jane! I have been a baking fool too, baking a new batch of cookies every night to take into work the next day. I leave a few behind for the kids, and that way I don't go crazy eating them. I'm thinking of doing it all year, ha!

I don't wear red very well either, I guess it works on some blondes, but not this one. Wearing color is fun though, especially if you are like me and wear a lot of neutrals most of the time. Black is my signature un-color!

Have a great time at your parties, I hope Santa is very good to you this year and that you all have a wonderful Christmas!

The pretzel candy looks delish and sounds a breeze to make, if only I could buy those ingredients here in France!
Oh well, c'est la vie!

I don't wear red either!! I think bright pink might be the closest to red I get. I have so many things to do in the kitchen to day but tons of errands, this is my behind year...I was always behind schedule.

The pretzel recipe sounds soooo good, sweet and salty is my favorite combo. I'm going to tell my sister about it, she's our Christmas cookie and candy baker. I made some cute cupcakes yesterday that I'm going to post about tomorrow. I really need to quite with all these sweets...I feel so fat!

Knitty said...

I'm trying not to think about that concoction or go back to look at the picture again. I think this is food porn...something I shouldn't look at or think about!! LOL!

Hi Jane

These are the ones I posted

BUt the peperment candy cane and white choc topping was not my idea. Only the styling as a Christmas tree was mine.

Can't remember who did the original, which I had to say in my post.

Hope this helps

Hi Jane!

You & I are BOTH baking up a storm this week...yours look yummy & maybe I'll have time to try them.
Loved seeing all your decorations & your cute puppy snuggled down in his bed. Sweet!
I, too, offered to help DD with the gift wrapping, as she has to do it after all the kids are in bed. I enjoy it & all their gifts are now hidden over here at MY house. The kids are now big enough to snoop! LOL

Wishing you a very Merry CHRISTmas, Honey!

Those look absolutely yummy! Don't you just love pretzels and chocolate -- that salty-sweet, chocolatey goodness!

Your home looks beautiful! I was snooping around, playing a little "catch-up!" Adorable pic of your little furry friend in his bed by the fire.

Merry Christmas!

That recipe looks great!
Thanks for visiting yesterday, I cracked up with your reference to the brown paper bag!
Speaking of bags...Your Marshall Field's bag on your tree! I worked for a division of Field's many years ago. I was a jewelry buyer for Frederick and Nelson in Seattle.
Your little bag touched my heart.
A lovely memory.
I miss that beautiful experience as well, particularly at Christmastime!
Merry Christmas!

Of course that recipe is good Jane! Anything with 3 sticks of butter and a bag of chocolate would be! Now only if we could try it over the computer because you've made me hungry!

I can't say much about your husband. Normally I'm done with shopping and wrapping by now, but somehow time slipped away from me this year. I'll be out later today to finish my Christmas shopping.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday!
