To prepare for long, cold winters, some people have the chimney cleaned or the furnace checked, snow blower oiled and gassed up...the normal precautions. Me? I go boot shopping. That's one of the benefits of living in a cold climate, you get to wear boots. And I LOVE boots!
The great thing about having grown {still at home} daughters, is that we wear the same size shoe. Well, count Emily out, she has wee little dogs. But Abby and I share shoes and together we have quite a selection.
I bought these boots last week and Abby didn't like them. She said they made her feel short, like an elf.
WHAT? Elflike or not, these boots are walkin' and rollin'! These are great for pulling on quickly to rush out the door for something; a quick trip to the store or mall and hey, at the airport where you have to untuck your jeans, pull off your boots and your 3 pairs of socks. I love these. My Go To boot.
I love all the detail on these. Emily has them in gray, but she is a wee size 6. She is also only 5'0, but has never considered herself an elf. These have a short chunky heel on them so I don't fall. And by the way, a tip I learned to keep your boots in shape when they are in your closet; put a wine bottle in them. I did that here to get the one to stand upright. Rinse the bottles out first, or hey, put full ones in and you can have your own stash when you need it.
Now these will be great when I go out riding my imaginary horse. I love them. Again, chunky heel so I won't fall.
And I guess these illustrate that I don't take Midwestern winters lightly. Waterproof, fleece lined and cute. I am ready!! They go with my new black parka, but that's a whole other post.
I usually buy boots a half size larger since I am probably going to be wearing thick socks. Make sure you wear skinny jeans...and that just means that they are tapered at the ankles to tuck in your boots...they are not just for skinny people. Believe me!! Boot leg pants look terrible scrunched into tight boots. And don't forget leggings, skirts and dresses with tights.
I am not a mall person and I love to shop online because I'm comfortable and I see the stores whole inventory. But one place that I just found I want to pass on to you. It's called 6PM.com. I found amazing prices there. I believe they are related to Zappos. Your order is delivered in 2 business days. And best of all, you get that chill that runs up your spine when you see the UPS truck.
So, are you boot happy this fall? What are your winter wardrobe plans? Let's chat! :-)

They are all perfect! That is so cool you and your daughters are the same size foot. I miss wearing my Moms clothes. When I was in HS I loved to raid her closet, she NOT so much.
LOVE this post Jane!! I am totally a boot girl! At 5'2" and a size 6, I find LOTS of great sales on boots -- now looking for a new pair of brown cowboy boots -- gotta have them for winter :)
Thanks for sharing your shopping source -- I'll be looking that over :)
Blessings!
Gail
Hi Jane,
Funny that you are posting about boots. I just bought the cutest pair yesterday. Mine are short too because the taller ones are usually too tight on my big calves! LOL!
Love all your choices. You wouldn't think that we need boots here on the coast of NC, but it gets very cold her in Jan and Feb.
hugs
Sissie
I have a few pair but we do not have much in the way of 'Boot Weather' down here! When we spent a December in Scotland I DID wear them. Every day!
Great post and I loved 'chatting' with you!
It's too early for those cute boots...I am having a hard time putting my New Balance flip flops to bed for the winter!
Thanks for sharing the boot web, I'll be looking into that because I love boots! Here in Pa. I've already started to wear them, love the black ones you showed, my daughter has a larger foot and thin so we don't wear each other's shoes or boots!
I love boots, too, Jane, but I only got a new pair of snow/winter boots this year. I don't have any room for extras so the "old ones" will have to do, but I think I've got it covered from ankle boots on up to wedge heeled! : ) I read that using your empty egg cartons is something else you can stick in your boots.
Cute boots Jane!
So nice that you can share them with your daughters!
I haven't taken any boots out yet but it wont be long!
I did buy a steel grey pair in the summer and I plan on wearing them any time now.
I love a pair of Fryes boots I saw online but the price was "wowsers".
Have a great weekend!
Deborah xo
I'm like you, Jane. I only wear boots that I won't fall down in! Hehe! Love those gray ones.
Hi dear Jane.....when I was younger....and without foot problems...I loved to wear boots.....now the closest thing I can come to boots is my UGGS. LOL

Hi Jane, I thought I might have to get my boots out this morning to go to work, but we didn't get the snow they were predicting, just rain, cold, and really windy. Your post just reminded me of what I am going to have to do. Mine will leak if the snow is to deep.
I think I will borrow my grandson's. He is 12 and wears a bigger size then I do. I am trying to print business cards for my craft show as I type this. Have a great weekend. Your Missouri Friend
I live in MN and have WAY too many pairs of fun boots and coats...you gotta have fun with this weather somehow! Low heel for me...5' 9, and a clutz :) Laurel
I just LOVE all those boots, Jane! So nice that you and your girls can all share--my girls and I are all a bit different, but we can share a couple pairs of our boots, so that's nice!
Hope you're having a wonderful, cozy night, my friend!
Julie
I love the elf boots! I haven't packed the boots away here just yet but the time is drawing near :)
I love the gray ones! I actually only own snow boots, can you believe it? I keep thinking of getting a pair of cute boots suitable for work but shoe shopping is tough since I have big feet! I usually buy shoes from Zappos, never heard of the other site, I'll have to check and see if they have big sizes too. I shop online all the time, almost ALL my Christmas shopping is done online - all the selection and no crowds!
Gorgeous boots!
For years I lived in winter wonderland and wore REAL boots, like the business-like ones you showed after all the pretty ones. Now that I live on the coast I wear 'pretend' boots that wouldn't keep anyone warm, but look great@
I was thrilled for you at the news of your daughter's engagement. We'll both be mothers of a bride in 2012! I'll want all the details!
Those are some great boots, Jane. I just found the cutest pair of suede boots at DSW. Do you have those stores there? Anyway, I usually get a heel on mine because I like my pants long for the slimming effect...lol.
I have never heard the wine bottle tip. Good one. I REALLY make me want to get some new boots...especially like your black ones.
You ARE a boot person! Each one has it's own personality!
Yvonne
Jane,
I love boots too! My daughter (19) and I wear the same size also, that sounds good right? Well, this is how it works, she borrows my shoes and boots, never brings them back and I have to go hunting (which could be quite dangerous considering most days you don't know where the floor in her room) when I go to get a pair that's not there. Now, when I borrow her shoes or boots, she has a fit! That hardly seems fair and equitable to me!
Rebecca
I love boots too! I just went shopping yesterday for some more "WARM BALLPARK BOOTS"! I get to the checkout with TWO different sizes and the right size was NOWHERE to be found... UGH! Have a blessed and warm day dear Jane, HUGS!
I love boots too!.. just ordered my first pair of Uggs.. and I'm short too - 5'4", and I can relate to some making me look elfish. I steer away from those...lol..
Janie, they are great. I have some boots but don't wear them much in Florida although, I see people who do....all the time.
Good luck with all your shopping.
Have a great weekend.
Barb
Yes! I love boots too and I don't live in a cold climate but I wear them anyway. Took out a pair yesterday and put them on, even though it was in the upper 60's. I think I have the same pair of "riding" boots as yours, one of my favorite. You are inspiring me to go boot shopping!
There's something about the day that you don your first fall boots! Powerful. Do you think it all goes back to Nancy Sinatra?
Thanks for the shopping tip!
Happy Weekend, Jane!

Cute boots! I am boot happy this year, as well! In the past 6 weeks I've purchased 3 pair. I've lost 22 pounds the past few months and the tall boots now fit comfortably and look great on me ~ yay!!! The first pair of black riding boots I bought are so comfortable that I wore them every day ~ I knew I needed to buy a few more pair in different styles, otherwise they were going to wear out fast! Have a great weekend!
I love boots, have a pair on now.. lol I adore the first pair of black ones..I'm like Debbie, would love to "raid" your closet.. hugs ~lynne~
Hi Janie... I love this post!!! We have such harsh winters here in Utah too... our state's slogan is "The Greatest Snow on Earth" so I own lots of boots too... infact, I just bought a new pair at Famous Footwear... I had returned a pair that the heels ended up being too high for me... was just going to get my money back when the clerk said, "well, we want you to be happy so you can have 15% off any other pair of boots"... so you see, I HAD to get another pair, tee hee hee! (I am sure it's a scam on their part but hey, it works for me!)... my favorites you showed are the first pair, love those!... looks like you are set for winter... I will check out the source you listed online, love shopping that way too!... fun post!... xoxo Julie Marie
Keeeeute! I love them all....and I agree with you, you have to be prepared for things, in case you did get that horse and have to go riding, or several other scenarios...of course we all think exactly the same way! Don't we? I get boots or shoes and tell myself about possible scenarios all the time! Hahahaha! Yay..it is the true heart of a girl scout or something like that...being prepared and all!
Blessings,
Debbie
First off, congrats to your daughter on her engagement. Just saw that on the last post.
Looks like you have some stylish boots. I love boots and shoes, but I have an extremely flat foot that is hard to fit. Not many style shoes will fit me.
How lucky to you that you and your daughter have the same size. My mom's feet are two sizes bigger than mine, so we were never able to share.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Love those elf boots! Thanks for the reminder about 6 pm I had forgotten about them! Oh. and congratulations, Mother of the Bride!
I am boot happy too LOL :)
I just love it!
Xo
Love those black boots - so cute! I am going boot shopping for some cute/fashionable boots soon...I love to wear them with jeans.
I recently bought a pair of brand-new Eddie Bauer winter boots at Goodwill for only $6.99!! Someone's loss was definitely my gain. :-)
Ariats all the way.
OK now I need boots AND skinny jeans!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE boots!
LuLu~*xoxo
Cute boots!!! I think I need to go boot shopping now?!?! LOL
Have a great weekend :o)

Hi Jane, I just came by to see what you are up to and to say thanks for leaving me a sweet comment about my Fall Cloches.
I love all your boots... I got a brand new pair of leather boots from a thrift store that gets donations from very well to do ladies. the boots were under 10.00!
xoxo Bunny Jean
Wednesday's Bunny Hop!
Great looking boots Jane! I like the black ones with the small heal.
My girls all have small feet, so I am out of luck as far as sharing goes.
Congrats on the engagement of your daughter! How exciting for all of you!!!!!
Have a nice weekend.
xxxooo
Oh, my kindred sister! I was just telling my husband that the only thing I liked about winter is wearing cute boots and cute sweaters! These are all adorable. I love the skinny jeans - stuffing those legs in just never worked. I just got some over the knee boots last year and love those too. I definitely will look up your source.
Thought id say hello while passing your blog by, and i hope you folks have a very nice weekend. We are maybe a little past fall peek colors for taking pictures of our tree's here in central Pennsylvania, but ill try anyway to go out one last time to snap some images. Richard from the Amish community of Lebanon Pennsylvania.
I've just started looking for new boots for this winter. Although we do get occasional snow, rain is our issue. I also love the look of boots and love them to dress for church but for my kick around town, running in the rain days, I wear my ugly Keenes. I know, I know, this fashionista has the ugliest boots imaginable but they hold up so well in the rain.
Hi Jane! Love your boots! I used to wear boots a lot. You make me want to get into them again! Congrats on your daughters engagement! More busy times ahead!
I am in some serious need of winter boots and better start looking soon!
Great boots Jane! My favorite are those North Face boots!
I love the grey ones and the black ones,,very nice.I love the leggings and boot look for Fall and winter, its beastly cold this far north and we are in winter gear until april. We need lots of boots, thats my excuse anyway.I think its great that you can wear the same size as your doubles the inventory!
HI Jane, you don't need to bring anything for lunch:):) I LOVE BOOTS TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have several pair too. I found some Impo brand boots a few years ago and they are suede but STRETCH!!!!!!! And they have a little kitten heel so I don't feel like an elf:):) I AM going to get some pumpkins for out front. You're right: they may just be free right now! XO, pinky
Those are some fun boots, Janie. Do you know... I don't have one pair any longer? Well, with the exception of some short ones that are out of style. Sigh. I need some boots! But what kind????
XO,
Sheila
I wanna wear boots! I got to buy a pair last year because we went up to Alaska... Sadly we don't wear boots much in Arizona. I think they are so cute, especially with the styles out now... Those boots were made for walkin... Have fun!

LOVE all your boots!! I've been boot shopping lately too, but haven't found just what I want yet...forgot about zappos! Thanks for the tip!
xoxo,
Shellagh
CUTE boots! I have a pair of calf high black boots - but here in California I can get away with slip on shoes. Being 5'11", I can wear the elf boots! Hmmm...I think I am going to have to go boot shopping!
Cute post!
xxoo
That's such a lovely post! I love it that you share shoes! And it says a lot about you that you want to!! You must be super-cool!!
Sarahx
I used to used rolled up magazines (with rubber bands) in my boots, But I don't have many anymore--except for your last pair, which I have kept for years for that very occasional snow. But I'm always happy I have them!
And I never knew the name Jane came from Janet! I thought Mr. Rochester was calling Jane by her full name, and now maybe you have shed some light on that being the case. But the other girls declared it was a pet name. Well we'll never know!
Okay Jane, you have touched my heart! I love boots and I love shoes, your boots are just awesome! Love them all! Great post! I'm not sure if you ever saw my post about shoes and boots!! Too fun!
Hope you are having a great Sunday!
Nancy
Oh I would love for you to try some Slap Ya Mamma...e~mail me your address and I will drop some into the mail for you.
Have a great week,
Melissa
I love boots, too. We seldom need snow boots here but we wear them anyway. :))
When daughter was home, we wore the same size shoes and tops..my pants were always too long for her and hers too short for me. It was such fun wearing the same clothes...:)
Oh how I love me some boots!!!! Have a fabulous week!
XO
Kristin
Hi Jane! Thank you for all the boot tips! I love your boots and your little stories along with them! I don't even own a pair of boots! I'm so deprived.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
We all share shoes and boots in our home too...love your collection. xoxo
Beautiful shoes you have!!!!
Hugs,
yvonne
Perfect silliness. I am in the market for a parka...a BIG WARM parka. I want to see yours!
xoxo
Andie
YOU do need boots where you live & those are all cute choices. Me.... I just like boots as you know our weather is not nearly so chilly as yours. Have a great week little Elf... tell her those don't look like Elf boots. HUGS!
Charlene
I'm with ya, Janie! I'm a boot gal, too! lol! Just bought a GREAT pair from Macy's online that actually fit my "curvy" calves! yay! I adore the black ones in the 3rd photo. They are sooo cool! Where'd you get them??
xoxo laurie
Hello Jane, girl I love boots and living in the mountains I get alot of mileage out of mine..I need to shop online for some new ones for winter..been cold as can be here..Thanks for coming by my dear friend..I really hope to be back into full swing by the first of the year with blogging once again..right now my HEART (pun intended) is not up to it..Take care my friend..Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
I love boots and skinny jeans. Of course that is the only thing I like about our Illinois winters. I have boots to ride my imaginary horse too (and lots of others)! I tried on a pair of lapis blue Uggs in Florida and I can't get them out of my head. I just want them to be on sale:)
I have one pair of black boots that I wear with everything. I suppose it would be a good idea to add a little variety! I'm an online shopper too. I can't even remember how I shopped before the internet! Have a great rest of the week...
Jane, so glad you stopped by! I will be doing another post on Mon with the rest of my little "turkey" collection, they are just fun and really make me think Thanksgiving! My twig wreath I got at Target years ago on sale and my daughter's boyfriend brought me the turkey feathers a few years ago. I thought they added a little color and interest.
Rebecca
Awesome post Jane! We have a small window here in California where we can wear boots, but still I've not found the perfect pair, I need to take you with me! Hugs, tami
I made it through my first Chicago winter without a really good pair of boots. I must go shopping.
Fondly,
Glenda
I'm boot happy! I just bought two looks like you have quite a collection going there, too.
Thanks for the birthday wishes!
I love boots too! Thrill of UPS guy arriving? lol...I know what you mean :)
