SPRING WEEKEND AT THE LAKE

Hey...we finally made it up to the lakehouse. We had beautiful sunny weather Saturday and Sunday and came home this morning. Saturday was a little quiet. We ate lunch at our favorite little pub in town and I visited the florist to replace some of my houseplants that didn't make it over the winter. I want to thank my neighbor, Susie {who reads my blog} for the great job she did in watering for us. Anyway, I thought I would do a post showing some pictures of the Great Room. I did a little rearranging of things when I cleaned.

We bought our sofa and love seat from JC Penney when we moved in 20 years ago. Since we spend so much time outside, it never really gets any wear and tear. The coffee table is from Pottery Barn, also about 20 years old.
Saturday night I cooked and we watched Eat Pray Love. I read the book about 3 times, but I didn't enjoy the movie as much. It didn't help that I fell asleep right after Elizabeth {Julia Roberts} arrives in Bali. I don't know why we waste money on movies when I can't stay awake until the end. Even if it's a good movie, I still nod off.

This is one end of the hearth. It's just a little vignette of things I love...a sand filled tealight holder, a bird, a picture of a swan feather that I took, and an old picture of The Husband with the boys when they were wee ones, standing on the dock.
Sunday The Husband cleaned up all of my flower beds and rototilled them. As soon as I have a free weekend, I will plant some new perennials. While he worked outside, I cleaned inside. It was really just a lot of dust. I washed all the sheets and blankets and removed the heavy duvets for the warmer weather.
I bought this little table at an antique store and finally brought it up to the lakehouse last year. I was going to paint it white and then changed my mind. Somehow, it just seems to go better with the furniture in black. How do you think it would look in white, or even gray? The lamp and linen shade are from Target.
That's The Husband, out on the bay in one of our new kayaks. Mine didn't come with an oar. I don't know how that one came to be mine. I'm not sure of my way around the swampy areas so I didn't go alone. There's always next time.
These are the bad boys. Can you believe we got them at Costco? They really have everything. I have read that they sell caskets. Something for everyone, I guess.

We went to Olive Garden for dinner Sunday night and then were in bed early to get on the road at 6:00 a.m., so The Husband could get to the office. It was a really nice weekend and it was good to get up there after all these months. I do like to go in the winter, but you can only have so many weekends sitting in front of the fire and taking cold walks outside. I'm so happy that summer is almost here.

I'm joining Marty at A Stroll Thru Life for Tabletop Tuesday and Kim at Savvy Southern Style for Wow Us Wednesday. I hope everyone had a good weekend. Oh...thank you for all the sweet compliments on my hair. I have washed the keratin out and I blow dried it and it is still perfectly straight. Whoo Hoo! :-)

Hi Jane!!

Glad to see you are finally able to enjoy your lake house! It's been a long winter!
I watched that movie and i found it way too long. Maybe that's why you fell asleep!
I love your rock fireplace by the way!
That table is gorgeous and i would leave it as is for now. I think it's striking black!!

Have a wonderful week!!

I'm so glad you got to go to the lake. I know you love it sooooooo. And I'm jealous! It is so cold here(in the 40's) I don't even want to think about these temps at the lake. Love your pretty rock fireplace.

Jane, we are still here at the lake..but have to go home tomorrow. Didn't get to stay all week.:-(

We have been wanting to watch Kings Speech, but we always drift off to sleep so don't want to waste the money on a movie. Maybe we should make a big ol' pot of coffee and rent the movie...maybe we could stay awake!

Sandi (Meme) said...

Oh boy, do I FEEL your pain! I have changed to watching movies in the afternoon on a rainy day, etc., for the same reason! We are finally able to get to our lake house too, because it's a seasonal one - spring thru fall only. BUT we recently purchased one that is year round AND sits on the bank of the lake, so we are so excited to get in to it. Hoping by Memorial, but not sure. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment about my latest project, you can bet it will go to the new lake house when we sell this one! Have a wonderful week. Sandi

Sounds like a really nice weekend, Jane. Two of my favorite things, eating out and falling asleep in my chair :)

The start of a new season is always so invigorating. I love winter walks and cold winds blowing in on a stretch of oceanside beach but at some point it is time to be outside soaking up the sunshine.
Oh, and black, definitely black. It anchors the table instead of it just looking like it is floating around.

Love your lakehouse! I think keep the table as it is. It works beautifully. I've tried several times to hire Eat Pray Love, but it's always out. I'll bet when I finally do, I'll fall asleep too. Caskets at Costco. Wow.

Your weekend at the lake sounds wonderful. It's too cold here for me to think about venturing up to our cabin...then I think about all the work waiting there for me too.

Glad to see that you finally got up to the cottage! It looks great. It sounds like you had a fun weekend too.

I really like the little table in black- I think it just adds a nice little punch to the room..stands out a bit more than it would in gray. Of course, I am partial to white too!- That was no help at all, was it?;>)

I suppose you picked up your bathing suit and are getting ready for your vacation now.

How did the roto-tilling go? I went to dig my own out and my son has borrowed it and now it has to go in for a "tune-up"...uh=-huh...can't wait to see what THAT means- I don't think I want to know!

Have a great week, Jane. Glad you like your hair~ I just noticed I have some "curlies" along the line in front of my ears now already! I can still hide them though!;>) Hugs- Diana

Nice that you finally got to get there. It was a nice weekend here in Michigan. Your place looks comfy & if I had a vote I would say, "keep the table black" : )
And when you get out in that kayak, have someone take a pic... would love to see it..
(we have always had a garage full of kayaks, as sons do white water kayaking... I have never been in one... I do the dropping off at one end of the river & pick up at the end :)
PS... your hair looks great!!!

Hi Jane!

The lake house is so serene and cozy! Gorgeous fireplace! Glad you could get there this past weekend! I can't remember the last time I actually finished a movie, so I can relate. I have a hard time finishing books, too. Not sure what that says about me :) Maybe, when the kids are older... I will have more time.
I think the table looks good in black because it goes with the legs of the coffee table. I'd keep it.
Have a great day tomorrow!

I too am in the process of buying clothes from the internet too for our vacation. Actually....it's taking up to much of my time but I know it will be worth it. I got some cute stuff and very cute sandals. When I feel good about my clothes and my hair life is good!

Jane, your lake house is so pretty and comfy. The kayaks look fun and way better than a casket! I like that table in black but gray would be pretty. I do not like painting furniture much like a lot of bloggers do. I like to garden and replanting your lake garden sounds so fun. We rent movies from Netflix and they sit around here for a very long time. That particular movie was nowhere as deep as the book. ♥O

Hey Jane! Bet it felt good to get back into the house...it means that summer should be here soon...right?!!! Loved reading Eat Pray Love as well...agreed that the movie was a little long too, and yes, they should put a sleeping rating on movies for you Jane - lol! BTW we love your hair straight....do you like it? My kid's swim coach had that done last year and she loves, loves, loves it - her hairdresser told her the same thing and how much healthier it is for your hair than the blowout! What she loved about it, was she could have her hair in a ponytail all day, take it out & her hair would be straight still :) funny!
Anyway, we became a follower (duh!) we always thought we were - THEN we couldn't find you anywhere this week on our fav's page....ok...maybe we were (ok..I) was having a blonde moment, but all is well now :) Enjoy your weekend!!

Hi Jane Sweetie...
I had to pop over this morning and wish you a Happy Mother's Day. What do I find? Such a beautiful post. I love, love the Lake house. It is so gorgeous. I can see why you love it so much.

I am laughing because I bought Eat, Love and Pray and I too, fell asleep. I haven't pulled the DVD out since. Maybe one day when it is to HOT to be outside.

I love the look of your table dark. It really pops with the light stone fireplace in the background. So beautiful sweetie.

Love the kayaks and what fun it will be for you and DH. So peaceful. Naturally yours would not come with a paddle. That would be my luck of the draw as well.

Now I have got to tell you, I love your new hair. Oh Jane it looks beautiful straightened. I can't wait to see more pictures.

Love your new dresses as well. They are so pretty. Light and airy. That is what I need for here in the desert.

Happy Mother's Day Sweetie. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

Enjoy the lake, enjoy your time there and enjoy every sunrise and sunset.
