Hey...we finally made it up to the lakehouse. We had beautiful sunny weather Saturday and Sunday and came home this morning. Saturday was a little quiet. We ate lunch at our favorite little pub in town and I visited the florist to replace some of my houseplants that didn't make it over the winter. I want to thank my neighbor, Susie {who reads my blog} for the great job she did in watering for us. Anyway, I thought I would do a post showing some pictures of the Great Room. I did a little rearranging of things when I cleaned.
We bought our sofa and love seat from JC Penney when we moved in 20 years ago. Since we spend so much time outside, it never really gets any wear and tear. The coffee table is from Pottery Barn, also about 20 years old.
Saturday night I cooked and we watched Eat Pray Love. I read the book about 3 times, but I didn't enjoy the movie as much. It didn't help that I fell asleep right after Elizabeth {Julia Roberts} arrives in Bali. I don't know why we waste money on movies when I can't stay awake until the end. Even if it's a good movie, I still nod off.
This is one end of the hearth. It's just a little vignette of things I love...a sand filled tealight holder, a bird, a picture of a swan feather that I took, and an old picture of The Husband with the boys when they were wee ones, standing on the dock.
Sunday The Husband cleaned up all of my flower beds and rototilled them. As soon as I have a free weekend, I will plant some new perennials. While he worked outside, I cleaned inside. It was really just a lot of dust. I washed all the sheets and blankets and removed the heavy duvets for the warmer weather.
I bought this little table at an antique store and finally brought it up to the lakehouse last year. I was going to paint it white and then changed my mind. Somehow, it just seems to go better with the furniture in black. How do you think it would look in white, or even gray? The lamp and linen shade are from Target.
That's The Husband, out on the bay in one of our new kayaks. Mine didn't come with an oar. I don't know how that one came to be mine. I'm not sure of my way around the swampy areas so I didn't go alone. There's always next time.
These are the bad boys. Can you believe we got them at Costco? They really have everything. I have read that they sell caskets. Something for everyone, I guess.
We went to Olive Garden for dinner Sunday night and then were in bed early to get on the road at 6:00 a.m., so The Husband could get to the office. It was a really nice weekend and it was good to get up there after all these months. I do like to go in the winter, but you can only have so many weekends sitting in front of the fire and taking cold walks outside. I'm so happy that summer is almost here.
I'm joining Marty at A Stroll Thru Life for Tabletop Tuesday and Kim at Savvy Southern Style for Wow Us Wednesday. I hope everyone had a good weekend. Oh...thank you for all the sweet compliments on my hair. I have washed the keratin out and I blow dried it and it is still perfectly straight. Whoo Hoo! :-)

Hi Jane!!
Glad to see you are finally able to enjoy your lake house! It's been a long winter!
I watched that movie and i found it way too long. Maybe that's why you fell asleep!
I love your rock fireplace by the way!
That table is gorgeous and i would leave it as is for now. I think it's striking black!!
Have a wonderful week!!
Pamela xoxo
I'm so glad you got to go to the lake. I know you love it sooooooo. And I'm jealous! It is so cold here(in the 40's) I don't even want to think about these temps at the lake. Love your pretty rock fireplace.
Charlene
Hi Jane,
I love your lake house. When you talk about it I always feel as though I've been there. It's so lovely and cozy looking. I'm so happy that you have such a wonderful place to retreat.
hugs
Sissie
your lake house is just divine, jane! i love all the floral furniture. it's like sitting in a garden:) how lovely! it must be so relaxing to sit out there with a good book and watch the sunset!
Yay, you finally got up to the lake house! : ) I'll bet you were glad to go and that it was a nice weekend, Jane! Yes, why is it that if something is missing a part or whatever it becomes the wife's?
Love your Lake House,
always enjoy photos of it.
Keep the table black...a great accent color.
Love your fireplace.

Sweet Up-North Mornings...
Beautiful place, your lake house. I could settle in there for a long time!
What a nice fireplace. I love the stones! Have a very good week of fun and sun. Luv-Loretta
A week-end at the lake house sounds like so much fun Blondie. So glad you got to go and enjoy it.
Jane, we are still here at the lake..but have to go home tomorrow. Didn't get to stay all week.:-(
We have been wanting to watch Kings Speech, but we always drift off to sleep so don't want to waste the money on a movie. Maybe we should make a big ol' pot of coffee and rent the movie...maybe we could stay awake!
Oh boy, do I FEEL your pain! I have changed to watching movies in the afternoon on a rainy day, etc., for the same reason! We are finally able to get to our lake house too, because it's a seasonal one - spring thru fall only. BUT we recently purchased one that is year round AND sits on the bank of the lake, so we are so excited to get in to it. Hoping by Memorial, but not sure. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment about my latest project, you can bet it will go to the new lake house when we sell this one! Have a wonderful week. Sandi
Sounds like a really nice weekend, Jane. Two of my favorite things, eating out and falling asleep in my chair :)
The start of a new season is always so invigorating. I love winter walks and cold winds blowing in on a stretch of oceanside beach but at some point it is time to be outside soaking up the sunshine.
Oh, and black, definitely black. It anchors the table instead of it just looking like it is floating around.
Love your lakehouse! I think keep the table as it is. It works beautifully. I've tried several times to hire Eat Pray Love, but it's always out. I'll bet when I finally do, I'll fall asleep too. Caskets at Costco. Wow.
x
I loved your photos and your post but I'm still smiling from you saying that caskets can be bought at the same store,,, thats so funny,, gosh your lake house is pretty,, I just love saying,, "Lake House",, mmmm thats nice,,
Your lake house is such a wonderful place. It must be so relaxing for your family to go there. I love your stone fireplace wall. You guys will have so much fun with the kayaks. My Dad had a poke boat that we used to take out on their lake... so much fun!!
Hi Jane! Oh, I'm so glad you finally got to go to your lake house. It's so lovely! That stone fireplace wall is gorgeous! I like your furnishings too. Now you've made me want to see more! ;)
Cute new blue toys too.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
We have a pontoon and we haven't been able to be on it because of the weather. I can't wait, so will live vicariously through you looking at your lake pics! Have fun!!
This is such a beautiful place. I love your decor and vignettes and the fireplace is wonderful. Love the views. Sure wish I was there. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
I love that fireplace...how cozy! I would have a hard time ever leaving. Hopefully one of these days we will have some little place on the water either north or south!
What a dreamy lake! What a blessing to have such a place!
What a fun weekend you had! And what a wonderful place to spend your time!
Yvonne
It looks like you had a lovely weekend at the lake. Lucky you. I saw Eat,Pray,Love last week and was not impressed. It was ok, but that's all. The book surely must have been better.
Your little vignette is so pretty and calming.
Hope you have a great week now,
Babs
Enjoyed your tour of the lakehouse.Sounds like you had a relaxing weekend. I love the table as is, but it would be lovely in gray also.
I love your lakehouse....I miss living on a lake.
Kayaking sounds like fun!
Hugs,
Penny
Your weekend at the lake sounds wonderful. It's too cold here for me to think about venturing up to our cabin...then I think about all the work waiting there for me too.
Glad to see that you finally got up to the cottage! It looks great. It sounds like you had a fun weekend too.
I really like the little table in black- I think it just adds a nice little punch to the room..stands out a bit more than it would in gray. Of course, I am partial to white too!- That was no help at all, was it?;>)
I suppose you picked up your bathing suit and are getting ready for your vacation now.
How did the roto-tilling go? I went to dig my own out and my son has borrowed it and now it has to go in for a "tune-up"...uh=-huh...can't wait to see what THAT means- I don't think I want to know!
Have a great week, Jane. Glad you like your hair~ I just noticed I have some "curlies" along the line in front of my ears now already! I can still hide them though!;>) Hugs- Diana
Nice that you finally got to get there. It was a nice weekend here in Michigan. Your place looks comfy & if I had a vote I would say, "keep the table black" : )
And when you get out in that kayak, have someone take a pic... would love to see it..
(we have always had a garage full of kayaks, as sons do white water kayaking... I have never been in one... I do the dropping off at one end of the river & pick up at the end :)
PS... your hair looks great!!!
Hi Jane!
The lake house is so serene and cozy! Gorgeous fireplace! Glad you could get there this past weekend! I can't remember the last time I actually finished a movie, so I can relate. I have a hard time finishing books, too. Not sure what that says about me :) Maybe, when the kids are older... I will have more time.
I think the table looks good in black because it goes with the legs of the coffee table. I'd keep it.
Have a great day tomorrow!
XO,
~Michelle
How nice that you two finally got to spend time at the lake house. Summer will be here before you know it. ~ Sarah
Finally at the Lake House~ how fun! I love your kayaks! We used to have a canoe, what a workout that was to row!
I scrolled down to see your hair, beautiful! What a treat to not have to fuss daily with a 'do'!
hugs,
paula:)
Looks like you had a great weekend Jane! Lovin' the kayaks! That would be a wonderful, peaceful workout early in the morning! I think I would like that:@)
Lovely weekend in your GORGEOUS lakehouse! Sounds like you got it freshened up and had some time to enjoy a little relaxing too!
Have a blessed day my friend, HUGS!
Your lakehouse looks so comfy amd relaxing. Nice vignette, Janie! The lake looks so peaceful and serene and I can understand why you like to spend so much time there....Christine
Yay, the lake! It looks like such a wonderful place to be and you sound very pleased :)
Hi Jane... your lakehouse is so very beautiful, I love every inch of it... how relaxing it must be for you to go there... I would sit and read or dream all day... I love the photo of the swan's feather you have displayed... I first "met" you when you posted about that and the way you were feeling at that point in your life... I just went back and read that very post... after following your blog ever since that day, I think you have found yourself again... I too have a photo of a feather with special meaning... xoxo Julie Marie
Sounds like you had a nice weekend. I love your stone fireplace. It looks so rustic! I'm glad you like your hair. It's true what you said. We want what we don't have. I have poker thick straight hair and I would love to have a little bend to it. Just a little. Where are you going on vacation? I too am in the process of buying clothes from the internet too for our vacation. Actually....it's taking up to much of my time but I know it will be worth it. I got some cute stuff and very cute sandals. When I feel good about my clothes and my hair life is good!
Oh Jane,
I can't wait to come visit you there this summer! What a lovely place you have! Love the couch, love that amazing fireplace and the kayaks look fun!
My brother Tim was so good for it that he trained for Olympic trials. He practiced indoors in the winter at a olympic size pool in Minneapolis. Sadly, I am sure I don't have that same talent!
Great post friend!
Come by and see my Sis's pottery when you get a chance.
Hugs,
Cindy
Love the look of that furniture, in the Great Room!!!
Gentle hugs...
Come on...!
Hi Jane! You have a lovely house! It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend! Have a great day!
Kelly
Jane, your lake house is so pretty and comfy. The kayaks look fun and way better than a casket! I like that table in black but gray would be pretty. I do not like painting furniture much like a lot of bloggers do. I like to garden and replanting your lake garden sounds so fun. We rent movies from Netflix and they sit around here for a very long time. That particular movie was nowhere as deep as the book. ♥O
TRYING not to be jealous ... oh how I'd love another place to decorate!
Your lakehouse looks like my kind of hangout! You've done such a good job of making it look all cozy and warm...guests might NEVER want to leave! Enjoy your day!
Hi Jane! It looks like you had a great time at your lakehouse! What a pretty place! I would definitely keep that table black. It adds depth and structure to the room. Your fireplace is just amazing! Love it!
xoxo laurie
Hi Jane, Thank you for sharing a bit of your weekend at your lakehouse with us! I love your family room with your vignettes and the fireplace is stunning. I love the table just as it is in black but I'm sure whatever you decide it will look very nice.
Hugz,
Kim
Your lakehouse looks so pretty! I bet it's so nice to spend time up there in the summer. Do your kids join you there sometimes, too?
As for the table, I think it'd be extra pretty painted white. Would go nicely with your couch.
Jane, this looks like such a wonderful get-away place. Your vignette on the fp hearth is so summer-perfect. That stone fireplace is so "get-away" perfect. I'm laughing about you thinking of painting your black table white, because I've seen so much furniture painted black in Blogville that I am looking around for a piece that I want to paint black! laurie
Hi Jane,
How fun to be back at the lakehouse, I am glad your weather is so nice!
I love dresses and skirts too, I hardly buy shorts.
Your hair looks beautiful! You are right we always want what we don't have! My hair hardly holds a curl, I spent all of my twenties with frizzy perms trying to get a wave! My mom has super curly hair (go figure!) I'll have to tell her about this treatment, she would be thrilled!!
Hugs,
Bella
Hi Jane
Lucky you spring and a trip to the lakehouse.. it looks like the perfect escape.. so relaxing..
That little table is so sweet.. I think black is perfect.. yet like the others.. I think grey would be great also!!! Have fun whichever way you go with it!!! ciao xxxx Julie
What a gorgeous lake...well, you're so lucky you can enjoy it now! It looks like you're having terrific weather, to really enjoy such beauty! I love your black table!, it's beautiful, I like it as it is now!
Hugs

What a great place to get away, too. Thanks for joining WUW.
How fun to have a lake house! So glad it is getting warm so you can go and enjoy time outside.
I love your lake home. That fireplace is wonderful! If I were curled up in front of that I would nod off too! :)
My vote on the table is to leave it black. It looks great with your sofas.
Sounds like a great weekend! :)
~Liz
what time should we get there??? I loove it, glad that you are getting a chance to hang out and relax.
Have a fantastic time!!!!
Your lake house is so cozy love the big stone fireplace.
I like the table black and I like your straight hairdo!
Rhonda
Jane!
Your lake house is BEAUTIFUL! What a lovely retreat from the city!
I adore the river rock fireplace.
I think that I would keep the table black...(It's probably tempting to slap some chalk paint on it with all the buzz about it in blog land!) What would we do without Costco? LOL
~Lynne

Jane, I am soooo glad that summer is almost here too. I so need it! We went to the lake Saturday and Steve went fishing and Jamie and I laid out on the pier where I promptly fried myself..typical...I needed to go somewhere peaceful and just let my mind adjust to last week...
The lake house looks fabulous! And kayaks! I am so impressed! I am a big chicken! lol Afraid it would turn over!
Your hair looks beautiful!
Hope you have a great week and thank you so much for your sweet words...they mean so much :)

What a beautiful escape. It looks so serene there (although I know it takes a lot of work for Mom and Dad!). I love your beams and your rock fireplace, what a place to gather. Sounds fun to get out and plant some. Thanks for sharing your getaway with us.
Thanks for becoming a new follower too!
Sounds like a good weekend. I'm with you--the falling asleep watching a dvd. I hate it when I do but it can't seem to be helped! I think you should leave the table black, somehow it goes with your decor and fireplace. Kyaks at Costco!
Hi Jane, your lake house is beautiful!! I love your PB coffee table. Thanks so much for stopping by I like making new friends:) Following you back, Martina
How nice to have you back there and getting things in shape. Guess you will be able to relax there eventually :)
Looks like a wonderful place you have there on the lake. Fabulous fireplace. Your hair looks amazing too!
Sounds like it was a perfect weekend. I'm glad the weather is starting to cooperate!
Your lake house looks beautiful! I know you were super busy cleaning up there this past weekend but hopefully your next visit you can relax and enjoy the lake and surroundings.
Jane
Hi Jane,
what a great lake house!!!!
Hugs,
Yvonne
I'm so glad you were able to get to the lake this weekend. I hope you remembered to bring your swimsuit back with you.
So special to have a lakehouse to spend warm summer afternoons at! Enjoy the getaway!
Oh how I love that stone fireplace!!!
Thank you for visiting my blog today and becoming a new follower!
I am in heaven with you lake house! The fireplace is SO AMAZING and I do love your pretty floral sofas!
Hugs~Ginger
Hey Jane! Bet it felt good to get back into the house...it means that summer should be here soon...right?!!! Loved reading Eat Pray Love as well...agreed that the movie was a little long too, and yes, they should put a sleeping rating on movies for you Jane - lol! BTW we love your hair straight....do you like it? My kid's swim coach had that done last year and she loves, loves, loves it - her hairdresser told her the same thing and how much healthier it is for your hair than the blowout! What she loved about it, was she could have her hair in a ponytail all day, take it out & her hair would be straight still :) funny!
Anyway, we became a follower (duh!) we always thought we were - THEN we couldn't find you anywhere this week on our fav's page....ok...maybe we were (ok..I) was having a blonde moment, but all is well now :) Enjoy your weekend!!
Karla & Karrie
Looks fun Jane. I have yet to go kayaking on the lake. I do plan on it this summer though, it is such great exercise. Have fun!
Looks like such a lovely spot to spend a weekend!
And I am glad you got kayaks instead of caskets. I don't think they float!
Happy Mother's Day, Jane!
Hey sweet friend! Im sorry I havent been around much at all the last few weeks...Im still fighting these shingles and now Ive caught a bad headcold...Happy Mothers Day weekend!

Happy Mother's Day to you, sweet Jane!
Blessings,
Shelia ;)
I love your lake house!! I saw those kayaks at my Costsco and they looked like a lot of work. But imagine your sleek muscle-y arms!
BTW, I like your hair! My sister had the Brazilian Blowout. Man those Brazilian people sure do like to think up ways to torture us, don't they!
whenever i see how many people comment on
your wonderful blog, i always wonder "why
does she bother with my little pitiful one?"
your lake house is warm, inviting, and
completely contagious! i can see why you
love it so.
your table is lovely in black, but i think grey
would be pretty, too. white? maybe a bit
too stark!
Oh, you have your very own lake house. I'd forgotten that. HOw wonderful to be able to escape there.
A kayak with no oar??? That doesn't sound great. I vote you sneak your husband's away from him!!!
Sarahx
Hi Jane!
How wonderful you had a great weekend! I think your table would look FABulous in green...or gray...and it looks great in black!
You got a LOT done....now you can enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Have a most beautiful Mother's Day!
;-D Kathleen
What an amazing place! I LOVE the stone fireplace!!!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Sounds like the lake house is just the ticket...to relaxation that is. Hope you have a lovely Mother's Day Jane! I am the one in my family to nod off at the end of a movie..l.o.l.
Such a pretty place! Someday....... we would love to have a tiny place on the water to get away.
I like the table in black too! I fall asleep during movies too. Easier to do when you are renting them!
LOVE your stone fireplace too.
So pretty and rustic and perfect for a lake house.
Such great memories you are making there. By the time we get a lake house...maybe our grandkids will be able to enjoy it!
xox
Alison
Hey Jane, The son getting married is the one that lives in New York City. The oldest lives in Chicago. Delighted you got up to the cottage! I love that little table and I love it black. I always think you need some black in a room. I didn't much care for that movie either and, like you, seems I always fall asleep before the movie is over too. :) Happy happy Mother's Day. xo
Hi Jane Sweetie...
I had to pop over this morning and wish you a Happy Mother's Day. What do I find? Such a beautiful post. I love, love the Lake house. It is so gorgeous. I can see why you love it so much.
I am laughing because I bought Eat, Love and Pray and I too, fell asleep. I haven't pulled the DVD out since. Maybe one day when it is to HOT to be outside.
I love the look of your table dark. It really pops with the light stone fireplace in the background. So beautiful sweetie.
Love the kayaks and what fun it will be for you and DH. So peaceful. Naturally yours would not come with a paddle. That would be my luck of the draw as well.
Now I have got to tell you, I love your new hair. Oh Jane it looks beautiful straightened. I can't wait to see more pictures.
Love your new dresses as well. They are so pretty. Light and airy. That is what I need for here in the desert.
Happy Mother's Day Sweetie. Many hugs and much love, Sherry
I had to stop by and wish you a Happy Mother's Day and now that I know you're at the lake, I know it will be wonderful!
Had to laugh when I read you fall asleep watching movies, I do the same thing, lol. Have for years, my kids always make fun of me for it. Now that I'm older (and tireder) I even do it at the theater. Now I seldom go out for a movie, but I've gotten to know exactly where that rewind button is on the remote, lol.
Enjoy the lake, enjoy your time there and enjoy every sunrise and sunset.
Hugs
Oh, what a fireplace! It must look like a ski lodge there in Winter. I would sit there for hours in front of the fireplace with a roaring fire, a cup of hot chocolate or tea, and a good book.
And Happy Mother's Day to you my friend!
June is coming fast, can't wait to see you two!
I hope your day was a happy one Jane!
Hugs,
Cindy
Fun, fun! Everything looks just great, too!
happy mothers day to you! xo
You are so lucky to have that gorgeous house to take refuge in! It must feel so wonderful walking through the door each you visit!
I hope you had a lovely Mother's Day Jane;you deserve it!
Best wishes,
Natasha.
~ Happy Mothers Day!!!~ I hope you had a wonderful day~ Hugs, Rachel :)

Your lake house is absolutely amazing! What a wonderful retreat : ) Have a great week!
Sounds like a lovely weekend. Your sofa has held up so well for 20 years! Love the beams on your ceiling. It'd be hard for me to stay away from that place. What a great getaway!
It is a beautiful place. I do like black furniture. Sometimes it anchors things. Would love to have a place ot escape to. Enjoy
Oooh that looks so inviting and cozy!!!!
What a relaxing place to go to...
