See that drift (above)?
I'm sure you have had your share of snow photos, or are just plain tired of looking out your own window. This is untouched Michigan snow at the lakehouse (except those paw prints from Milo). We drove up Saturday afternoon, arriving about 2:00. Of course our driveway had never been plowed as we rarely go up in the winter much now. The Husband said he would climb over the big embankment by the road and make a path to the house for me. But foolishly, I was carrying Layla and my purse in one arm and an overnight bag in the other. I climbed over the embankment, wobbled a little, and fell flat on my a**. What made it worse, my legs were all bent weird under me and I never once let loose of the dog nor my bags. In short, as I tried to get up, looking as helpless as a turtle on it's back, we started laughing so hard I had no strength! I could have let Layla go, she's a runaway, but where could she have run? The snow was up to my knees! Finally The Husband pulled me out of my little hole and we made it in. I know it would have made a great picture.
We went to our favorite little restaurant for dinner, the roads were not good at all. And then we just spent the evening relaxing with a fire burning in the old stove.
I am in the middle of the book on my sidebar, The Kitchen House. I started it in December and had to put it down because of all the crazy busyness. I picked it up Monday night and I am letting laundry and basic chores fall to the wayside. This is an excellent book. And I know a few people who have recently finished The Fault In Our Stars, and it is supposed to be a fantastic book and a real tearjerker. I think I found my next book!
Stay warm and dry and I will see you soon! :)
XO,
Jane

Congratulations, and a well-deserved pat on the back, for the 27 years of kids' tuition and raising decent human beings, each successful in his/her own right, Jane!
Wow! Look at that snow! Congrats to your daughter!!
I am so over this weather...snow again today and aren't you freezing? I know I am! My poor daughter went to NYC/Long Island last Friday (tomorrow is paperwork day) and they really got arctic weather, so she is truly freezing to death. Last time they went there was a hurricane! She thinks the state hates her. Sorry you took a fall, but I can just picture it! Glad you were ok. Congrats again on your daughter...so pretty!
You need to come visit sunny California
us blondes would have a blast !!!
xxoo
Pam
I've never said this but should have, if you get the urge to come where it's warmer you are welcome here in Texas. We are old friends after all. :)
Congratulations Abby!! My son finished college in December also. And he too doesn't care one little bit about a party. I want to have one though!
Congratulations to your daughter. Stay warm and cozy!
Judy
Congratulations to your daughter...what a snow....!!!..keep yourself warmmmmm and cozy darling....love Ria...x !
Congrats indeed!!! I have to say this is the worst, longest winter I can EVER remember..and I want it gone....oh that felt good!!! Do like your photos though..but enough already, where is spring!?!?!
My daughters both wore white gowns and carried red roses for high school graduation too. Such a special day - they look like they are floating down the isle :-)
You fallen in the snow, keeping your dog safe and laughing so hard, now that would be a popular YouTube video!
Glad no harm was done. I like those icicles in the photo, they look deadly yet beautiful. How neat your daughter is teaching Shakespeare.
Congrats to your daughter. How great that she found a job already.
I can just see you... with the dog in the snow...Wish you'd had a camera. I imagine that the weather was about the same as here on your weekend away.
The sun was just out and now it's snowing. We are really getting it this year.
Have a great evening...Balisha
What a beautiful post! SNOW, chocolate, beautiful girls in white gowns! LOVE all of these things:)
SO sorry about your neighbor:( THAT's SAD!
Enjoy your evening dear Jane, BIG HUGS! Stay warm!
How beautiful to graduate in a white gown. Love the picture of her walking away...
Sorry to hear of your friend.
Your snow pictures are so lovely, and they do look like black and white. I'm really sorry you didn't have a video of you knee deep...that way funny...I sure not a the moment.
Congrats on the D*** too. It's a battle, but worth it.
Sending hugs,
congrats to your daughter!! no more tuition is simply priceless:)
I read the kitchen house and loved it.. and have not heard of The Fault in Our Stars.. will have to look for that!
I am NOT DOING A GREAT JOB with my D___. Sigh
Miss Jane- I just wanted to stop by and say hi and to stay WARM.
And may I say a shot at the jukebox sounds like a blast right about now.
Enjoyed visiting,
Laura

Oh no!!!! Not more white stuff, so tired of it......Congrats to you daughter, way to go....Blessings Francine.
Oh my goodness...27 years! Congrats on making it thru all those years. Happy to hear that she landed a temp job...I'm sure she will get one soon for next year. My diet is going okay too...hope we both can keep it up. Stay warm my friend.
Blessings,
Linda
You have been busy, sorry about the fall but I would have been laughing too. Snowed here Monday all day, temps fell to -6 today and the grands haven't had school for two days.
Your daughter is beautiful, looks like you but with dark hair:)
So sorry you fell Jane... hope you didn't hurt your back again doing so... your lakehouse looks gorgeous!... and so does that pie!... that's a whole lot of snow out there... we have east canyon winds predicted for tonight... they gust up to 100 mph most times... not looking forward to that!... xoxo Julie Marie
Congratulations to your daughter!! 27 years of tuition finally done!! That is a real reason to celebrate.
Congrats to your daughter!!! I can relate to the tuition's... We've been paying tuition since my 22 yr old was in preschool... High school tuition in Baltimore is around $45,000 for 4 years.. Our youngest has two years left and we are counting down!! Can't wait!!!
Love the photos....... I left my cushions outside too.. and the table clothe. lol. I was hoping that if I left the deck set up.. that spring would arrive sooner.
Looking pretty bad!!! ; )
Stay warm.
Oh my gosh, sorry to hear you fell, Jane, but I do know how you can wind up laughing like that. Congrats on the end of tuition payments. I will be glad when my son is done with graduate school in May. We are not paying tuition, but are helping him out with rent. Stay warm!
Jane, I'm laughing at the thought of you sinking into the snow. Glad you could laugh about it and that you weren't hurt.
I can't imagine living with all that snow. We have such mild winters.
Congratulations to Emily. I graduated mid year, but was very fortunate. My cooperating teacher who I student taught under was leaving mid year because her husband was graduating with a PHD. I was hired to take her place. I was so lucky!
All the best to Emily with the long term sub. That's a good way to get one's foot in the door for a permanent teaching position.
Stay warm……...
I loved this post too, Jane. Can't help but smile at the thought of you in a hole in the snow, and unable to get your feet out from under you - I've been there and done that!
It must be lovely to go out to a summer house in the winter - a different perspective.
Congratulations to you and all your children - well done, all of you. I must say that it is nice to be finished with tuition payments!
My your snow up there seems endless. The drifts are so pretty. Are you saying the indoor stairway at your cottage has to be replaced? It's so pretty. Happy Birthday at the end of the month (I think) !
We're done with tuition, too....it feels wonderful...like we got a raise! ha.
Lovely grad photos! Just gorgeous!
My winter pics look black and white, too! Lovely shades of grey, too. ha.
Jane, you fall made me laugh at how you described it. I wasn't laughing
about falling and I'm so glad that you didn't get hurt. But falling and still holding on to everything would be something that I would do. It's better to fall in the snow than on the hard ground. Your snow pictures are great. Be careful - you don't want to fall and break anything.
Mary
Those snow pics are so neat Jane! They have such a surreal type of look to them.
Hey congrats to Abby and her parents too! That is so great she got a teaching job already.
I am still picturing you in the snow, with Al pulling you out! Hey I'm the gal with the beer bottle dropped on her head!
I just read your post from Sat. too. You will have to let me in on the new diet. I need some inspiration bad. In the winter, I just want comfort foods.
So I am going to go check why my blog isn't updating your new posts.
Oh it's really interesting story about your neighbor who passed. She sounded very interesting indeed.
Big Hugs,
Cindy
Oh Jane, I can see you now stuck in the snow! No, I'm not laughing at you, with you! Sorry to hear about your other neighbor, goodness. How exciting that your daughter is out of college and ready to teach. Isn't it wonderful to have your kids all out of college and on their own? We are there and have been for awhile, it's the best felt satisfaction and blessing ever! I think I want a piece of your pie now!
Beautiful snowy pics! Congrats to your daughter and that pie looks AMAZING!
Blessings,
Cindy
Jane, I would not know what to do with that snow. It is uncommonly cold here though. I am going junking today and will have to wear a coat. Well done to Abby for finishing college and to the two of you for getting the four of them through. xo, olive
Jane,
Don't you hate to fall?!! I know I do! The first thing I do is look to see if anyone is watching!! I think someone seeing me is almost as painful as the fall!
The inside shot of your lake house is so pretty!
Your sweet daughter is beautiful!! My daughter had a birthday this week! I won't say which one, because it sure makes me feel O.L.D.!!!!
Hope your week is going well!!
Wow, the snow looks crazy! Glad you didn't get hurt with the fall, but I could picture myself in the same situation - not being able to get up! The pie looks fabulous. We have been trying to be good too, so there isn't much cooking to be blogging about - boring!
That would've been great if Al had snapped a photo of you while you were lying in the snow, but I'm sure you would've been pi**ed if he did so! Glad you didn't get hurt. That could've been disastrous. The inside of your lakehouse is gorgeous! You need to give us a full tour. I would love to see the whole thing. Congrats to Abigail on finding a teaching job! No more tuition payments - priceless. We still have 2-4 more years to go (depending on if Tim goes for his Masters).
Send some of that fluffy, white snow down our way, Jane! Looks beautiful, but COLD! Congrats on being down with tuition...oh, happy day! Looking forward to that ourselves!
So happy for Abby to graduate and get a sub teaching job. That could be the inroad to a full-time job next school year. The lakehouse looks pretty. Glad you had your nice wood stove to keep warm and relax in front of. Enjoy your wknd!
Be blessed, Beth
Too much snow for me! Of course, I detest the 110+ temps we have in the brutal Texas summers. You really are doing well with your eating...or lack thereof. :)
Your daughter is beautiful! I think it's awesome that she got the job mid-year.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
xo
Pat
I "discovered" you through Melanie's blog. I'm always on the lookout for a bloggers in IL, and I thought I was the only one on the South side (we live in Oak Lawn). I love snow, it lets me nest without guilt! Congrats for the 27 years of kids' tuition, what a great feat! I hope your not hurt from your fall, I think more snow is coming out way! Now Following you! Following you on GFC even though I am on wordpress. I've also added you to my Illinois Blogger Feedly reader!
I'm glad you didn't get hurt while you were juggling in the snow. You sound graceful like myself ;-) So sorry about your neighbor. A reminder I guess that people can be gone in an instant. I have 4 children too, ones about to graduate after 4 years of college, 3 more kids to send. It's worth it for sure. Congrats on your daughters new job. I hope my son finds one soon after graduation. And what diet are you on? Any luck? I changed my URL, I'd love for you to pop over and follow me at my new address. Take care,
Sherry
Nothing more beautiful than fresh snow that hasn't been disturbed! You had me laughing as I could just picture falling in the snow and not letting go of what's in your arms.
Congratulations on all your children being productive adults after college!! A real accomplishment.
Mary Alice
Winter? Snow thanks.
You would laugh at us right now...we had freezing rain last night and there is a touch of ice on the roads, so the entire city is closed down! We don't know what to do with ourselves when we get any freezing rain/sleet. :) Like, literally, the entire city is pretty much closed up or on a delayed start time. Ha! So great that your daughter found a job already. And congrats on putting all of them through college. That's a huge deal!
Goodness, girl, you better be careful out there in the snow. I am not a cold weather gal so I could visit, but wouldn't want to live in snow. Our son in Colorado is trying to move to another college within the state where it is just a bit warmer than where he is now. He was also ready for high school to be over and now he is on his own and enjoying this new phase of his life. It's a good feeling knowing that you were able to put your kids through college and that they are all successful adults. Good luck to your daughter with her teaching assignment. Shakespear! The bain of my 10th graders existence. HA! Have a good weekend. Tammy
Hi Janie! I'm sorry you took a topple in the snow but glad you can laugh about it and you were not hurt. Congrats to your pretty daughter on graduation and her new teaching job.
You stay quite the busy one! ;) Thanks for popping in and have a great weekend.
be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Congrats to your daughter! Sounds like all of your kids have done well. You certainly have a lot of snow at your lake house. I bet it's even colder coming off the lake too! That pie looked good.
Good for your daughter. She is fortunate to find a midyear teaching job.
Don't you love finding free furniture? Even if it does need some sprucing up? I do love a bargain.
In New England we've had storm after storm just like you and the bitter cold temps. It is certainly a Winter to remember!
Wow..just exactly what I needed..books with a good recommendation. Thanks! Glad you didn't hurt your bum when you fell!
:) Your daughter..time flies. Enjoy ever single moment..
It's so rewarding when ones children turn out so we can be proud. You are right..it's worth everything.

Congratulations to your daughter on finding her first teaching job. There's a lot to be said for getting one's foot in the door; you never know what other opportunities may arise from this experience.
-Karen
That's hilarious about you falling in the snow-glad you didn't get hurt! Congrats to your daughter, and Hapoy Birthday! :)
Susan
Hi Jane! Oh goodness, I've missed a couple of posts here..
First, congrats to your daughter! It's a relief when we finally make that last tuition payment isn't it? We are almost finished too;) We got a bonus (ha!) when our daughter decided to take her 5th year of Accounting..
Your snow pics are amazing. We've had an unseasonably warm and sunny January here in Seattle and almost no snow. We usually get a few storms to give us a snow back and skiing in the local mountains. Lots of people at the resorts are out of work and we are concerned about the upcoming summer and lack of snow pack. Anyway, seems like it's usually one extreme or the other!
Stay warm! xxleslie
Congratulations to your daughter and on raising your kids! I am definitely looking forward to the end of tuition payments. Both our girls went to a Christian school through high school and I have one in college and our oldest has supported herself (across country) since she was 18)Sorry to hear about your neighbor. Your snow is pretty, and I am amazed at how ya'll live and work through all of that. You're way tougher than me!Only 52 more days until Spring!
Do you hate the fact I'm cracking up picturing you on your ass like a turtle? Well, too bad. I'm still smiling ;).
Your daughter is absolutely beautiful! She looks like an angel in that lovely dress, and congratulations to her for finding a job doing what she loves.
My mother passed away from COPD almost three years ago. She was 86. Your neighbor was too young!
Oh, and the reason you thought it was the thirteenth is because that was MY birthday, thereby making it the most important day in January.
Happy Birthday Aquarius!
Those snow shots are beautiful Jane! Big CONGRATS to your daughter...she looked beautiful in her white gown...best of luck to her on the start of her new job...very exciting!
Stay warm... another artic blast is headed our way on Tuesday!
Oh my goodness, I wish I could send you some of our sunshine! I kind of mean that literally, because it's hard for me to really enjoy this very Spring-like weather which seems way too early for me and I keep thinking about a long hot summer looming in the not-too-distant future. Oh boy, that sounds so bad, doesn't it -- like I'm being so selfish. Well, I'd better just get over that and accept whatever is meant to happen. I am so glad you didn't hurt yourself when you fell. I know exactly what you are talking about with the laughter and giggles that make you feel all weak. That has happened to me many times!
It's always so much fun to stop by and see what you've been up to, Jane. :) You two are always busy doing something or going someplace fun! Yes, I am sooo over this snow. Sick...of...it. I want spring. I need sunshine. I want to plunge my hands in the warm soil again. Spring can not arrive too early for me. :)
xoxo laurie
Congrats to your daughter. I know you're proud! I wish we'd get that much snow just once!
