BEAUTY 101

I thought it might be sort of fun to get away from the norm with this post {look...I am even using a different font color!}, and do something fun. I am always talking about cooking, or decorating or little trips and I thought this might be a post that included everyone and we could all participate in the comments. A BEAUTY post! I thought I would share some of my tips and products I use and then you could all join in.

We spend a lot of time on our homes making them beautiful, do we take the same time with ourselves? I will be the first to say it...I have the time but not so much the interest. I'm talking about cosmetics in this post. Do we wear make up? Where, when, how often? I'll be the first to admit that I have been in a slump. Why do I need to wear make up on my face to go to the grocery store or the library? Who needs the hassle? I finally reached an answer to that for myself and it was very simple: self respect. Being the best I can be.
I wear so little most days, I probably am not qualified to give advice. But I thought I'd pass on to you some of the things I have in my make up bag and we could go from there. These are some of the products I love. I have very pale skin and if I could change anything, it would be the purple colored circles I have under my eyes {even if I get 12 hours of sleep!}, and maybe my freckles. So, for everyday I wear concealer and a little powder. If I am going out to dinner or a party, I wear foundation, too. Smashbox is my favorite. Back to everyday...I really have a love/ hate relationship with mascara, I despise taking it off at night. So my trick is to wear eyeliner. I use gray so it is not so obvious and it adds a little color. If you keep it close to your lashline, it looks like you have thick eyelashes and you don't have all the hassle of putting on and taking off mascara. My all time favorite eyeliner is Maybelline Unstoppable in Pewter. If you have brown eyes like me, it adds a tiny pop of contrast.
Eyeshadow is a tricky subject for me. Since my eyes are brown, it seems odd to have a color, like blue on my eyes. It looks so...blue!! Mostly colors like wine and rose looks best on me since those colors go with various shades of my skin. Peach colors, too. If you can get away with other colors, great. Share that with us!

Another problem I have with eyeshadow is how much is enough? For Christmas I received a palette of colors by Urban Decay. Big, bold colors with sparkle, some almost black. Yes, there is a charcoal eyeshadow in there. Someone out there knows how to use this stuff but it's not me! I guess you just need a light touch. And blend. I do remember this from the 80's when we wore SO much makeup and didn't even need it then!
Blush and lip gloss are fun for me and the answer to the old "What would you bring to a desert island" question. I need some color on my face since I am so pale... I think we could all use a bit of color on our cheeks, it makes us look healthy and for blush, I love Laura Mercier {you can get her cosmetics at Sephora.com}. She makes these little quad palettes and you can use one shade or blend all four together. They make you glow! Physician's Formula also makes these blendable palettes, so check them out at your drugstore.

And speaking of drugstores, I think they have the best lipsticks and lip glosses that you can get anywhere. I love the long wearing lip gloss that Maybelline makes, again called Unstoppable. It's sticky but it stays on forever! It's been a long time since I actually wore lipstick, it just doesn't last that long and I thought it was a little much on me. But since Maybelline and L'oreal have come out with long wearing shades, I have been picking up a few here and there and I like them. Unlike department stores where you can try on colors {yuck}, you can still bring back make up to the drugstore for an exchange or refund. One thing I have learned...lipgloss always looks darker in the tube than it really is and lipstick always looks lighter.
I hope I haven't bored you to tears yet. In a nutshell, this is what I wear when I am not doing anything special: Powder
Eyeliner
Blush
Lipgloss
A smile

If I really need to look good, I pull out the big guns: Foundation
Powder
Eyeshadow/eyeliner
Mascara
Blush
Lipstick/lipgloss
A smile
Does this sound high maintenance? I have always been a girly girl and grew up poring over the make up counters at Marshall Fields. I studied Glamour magazine like it was a textbook. We loved our cosmetics in the eighties and wouldn't even go to school without our Wet N' Wild blue eyeshadow and Bonnie Bell lipgloss! But as I said, I have been in a slump. Somedays I have to make that extra effort to even put earrings on, but you know what? The Husband notices. He notices when I do my nails or if I am wearing perfume. My daughter's don't necessarily compliment me, but I can see it in their eyes that they are glad I spent some time on/for myself.
So, although this may have sounded like a lengthy post, everything I have talked about fits right into this little bag. Honestly. Including some good brushes, but that's another post.
I'm almost quite done...I have tried different products to take my make up off with at night. I used to just wash with Dove soap but then I discovered these neat little towelettes. Being ever inquisitive, I tried these, Neutrogena and Burt's Bees and these are the hands down best. Perfect for dry sensitive skin, but no oils. You will love them.
The end of my post has come around and I am leaving you with a look at my wretched vanity. I, myself am not so messy and unorganized but Emily and Abby and I share my vanity, share our products and makeup {share our shoes, too!}. Keeping it neat is a never ending battle. Make up, hair stuff, nail stuff...it's all in here.
Ignore that reflection in the mirror of all my pillows and quilts piled up, I am reorganizing that, too. And I am reorganizing this vanity. And I will show you the results in an upcoming post.

If you found any of this interesting, informative or just plain fun, let me know in your comments. I want to hear how you ladies keep yourselves looking good, what your make up routines are. Have they changed over the years? Are your pressed for time or in a slump? What are your favorite products? What is your make up routine? Write as little or as much as you want. In an upcoming post we are going to talk about hair; our current styles, products we love, how we're dealing with the dreaded gray. And then I am going to move us on to our favorite body rituals and products for the bath and or shower, lotions and potions and all things that smell good!

Finally, after we have shared and shared and shared some more, I am going to have a giveaway with some beauty products that are tailor made for the winner. You don't even need to be a follower, just spill it. Write a book. Give advice to all of us. This will be FUN!

Now, let's get started! :-)

I have heard so much about that smashbox I must try it. I do not splurge much on makeup and I really should. I am a plain ole cover girl, and oil of olay!

You are a lot like me. I have dry sensitive skin and have tried hundreds (I swear it is hundreds) of products over the years.

I discovered Bare Minerals a few years ago and I was hooked. Every morning I get up, make my bed, brush my teeth and then dust on some BMinerals powder, a swipe of their "radiance" across my cheeks....a few licks of mascara (I have tried many-love the old Fabulash the best-although I like Estee Lauders too), I use a tube lipstick- Estee Lauder's Sweet Cider (Fall/Winter) L'Oreal's Rose Bronze (Spring/Summer) ..that's it...done..I might refresh my lipstick during the day but other than that-nada-

In Spring/Summer I wear Happy cologne or Bobbie Brown's Beach. In winter I wear LaTuscany per Dona by Estee Lauder.

I use the Neutrogena removers (like yours) sometimes...but if my skin is feeling really dry I use plain old olive oil and just wash it off with a warm damp cloth.

I have had so many problems with moisturizers over the years and have tried so many that make me break out-or itch- or don't really work. Then I discovered Spring Chicken Serum that Jayme The Coop Keeper sells on her blog and it is THE BEST thing I have ever used on my face. It goes on with 3 or 4 little drops and lasts all day. My skin feels soft, hydrated and fresh and as smooth as a baby's butt...well, except for the wrinkles! lol

Great post, Jane! It's a fun one! xo Diana

I just found your interesting blog.
As your new follower, I will welcome a visit and comments.

I love reading what others use. I use Eucerin original moisturizer all over and even on my face. I also use Mary Kay sun block, which is a silky moisturizing cream.
I love Sephora and also Chanel products.

Have a great weekend

I'm a Bare Escentuals girl and have been for years! I would not leave the house without their mineral foundation. I have alot of blotchy redness to my skin, so I'm always looking to cover it up.

I wear eye liner (Bare Escentuals) and mascara. (The famous pink & green...Maybelline Great Lash).

I also wear Bare Escentuals blush.

Every once in a while, I'll wear eye shadow, but rarely.

I put my makeup on every day. Honestly, I hate it. It feels like such a chore but I feel yucky without makeup, so I have to do it.

My goodness, Jane - this is well-timed for me. On Wednesday I'm going to go for my first ever facial. Can you believe it? I'm getting worried about the wedding and how I'll look. A big night for me means some mascara and lipstick and I know that at my age that just doesn't do it any more. I hate going near a makeup counter because I feel obliged to buy - and I don't want to look too made up...just better (who doesn't?) I'll be watching comments and your upcoming posts and taking notes.

Jane, I'm not one to use much make-up. Never have! I use Estée Lauder products for skin care though ~ Perfectionist, advanced night repair. Then a touch of blush and powder if I'm going out. That's about it! ~ Sarah

my daughter loves smash box, I like Clinique.I have serious allergy issues and sensitive skin, I wear everyday, mascara, blush and gloss, if going out , a bit of shadow and concealer with powder so i thinkits much the smae as yours.I have fair skin, and it tends to be dry in winter so I would say moisturizers are my best friend.I'm trying the eyeliner trick for sure. Thanks for sharing.
I think Sephora makes the best powder though for me, and I also love thier brushes.I use no scent because of my allergies.

Hi Jane... fun post!... I have such bad allergies to anything with a scent to it, I can only wear Clinique or Physicians Formula... I buy my Clinique when it is bonus days, so I can try alot of things they give you in a neat little makeup bag free with purchase... I wear alot less makeup than I used to... but I still wear eyeshadow (dark smokey colors) and mascara, blush and ALWAYS lipstick!... my very favorite is Clinique Pink Goddess, with a lipliner as well... I don't have acrylic nails nor would I, so I just use a pale pinkish almost clear on my nails... I hate seeing a beautiful woman with ratty nails! I see soo many beautiful colors by L'Oreal, etc, that I can't wear because of my allergies... it's a curse!... anyway, you are always gorgeous my friend!... xoxo Julie Marie PS Love that you always wear a smile!!!

OK my best weapon is mineral powder. It's natural looking and hides lots of imperfections.

I haven't worn eye shadow for 20 years now. It just slides off my eyelids.

Just eye liner and mascara to highlight what is there already.

I like to wear make up and look much better with it but like you Jane, detest the hassles of getting it off at night.

Hope your slump only extends to makeup and not everything.

Take Care

I don't do a lot on the makeup front, but always wear foundation and mascara if I'm heading out into the world. Work days will involve eye shadow and lipstick too. But I have discovered the thing that I really do need now to get a great looking coverage is to use a primer under my foundation, or spack filler as I sometimes call it. I'm currently using one by Arbonne...all natural made by yodelling goat-herders or something in the Swiss hills! It really makes a difference :)

Hi Jane! I loved your makeup post! I'm rather simple these days too. I am very very fair, my eyelashes are almost clear without mascara. So I always wear foundation and mascara. I use a little eyebrow pencil on my eyebrows and a liner under my bottom lashes. I don't use it on my top lids. I know, that's silly. I also use eyeshadows - tans and browns. Too chicken to try other colors. As much as I do love the peachy colors, when I've tried them I look like I've been crying my eyes out! Blush is a must for my pale skin. I wish I could wear powder but I'm a tad oily in places and the powder just clogs up. I used to only use Clinique products but not anymore - just grocery store things and mostly Neutrogenia. I'll be looking forward to reading what the other gals do.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

lol! Well....I think I'm a high maintenance girl, Jane! I don't go anywhere without my make up on. If I'm barefaced, I feel like I felt like I just rolled out of bed! Doing my morning routine of shower, hair, and make up just wakes me up and gets me going. (and you never know who you're going to run in to, ya know...! lol!)

I use Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse make up. It's got teeny tiny little sparkles in it that reflect the light and minimize wrinkles. Love it!

I also love Bare Escentuals Mineral Blush. It's so light and natural looking and good for my skin. I'm one of those gals who like to see the blush on my face - like I just got back from a nice long run. :) I use "Golden Gate".

I use a medium brown shadow for my eyebrows.

Since I have hazel eyes, I use an olive/khaki colored shadow which brings out the greenish color, dark brown kohl eyeliner which I smudge, and black mascara. I like soft, smudgy looking eyes. :)

Have you tried Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing Lipcolor yet? LUV it! I use "Savvy", which is a nice, neutral.

My perfume is always "Delicious" by DKNY. I could bathe in that stuff! ♥

For removing all of this at night, I use Maybelline Eye Makeup Remover, then wash my face with that new Neutrogena Pure face wash. Clinique Simply for Eyes gets patted on the wrinkles around my eyes and Olay Night Creme goes on the rest of my face and neck.

Well, that's it for me. See? I told'ya I was high maintenance! lol!

This was a fun post, Jane! :)

Oh to share makeup & shoes with 2 girls must be "a trip". Maybe I am glad I only have boys in my life. :) I found your makeup review fresh & different. My routine is much more simple now that my skin is flairing up with allergy issues. Anything with fragrance sends it into fits. Puffy, itchy, flaky eyes that HURT. Always a challenge to find products that work with no side effects. Have a great weekend. HUGS! Charlene

Fun post! I have been blessed with pretty good skin but I take care of it with Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer. I use to wear makeup daily but since I am retired I don't. I have also developed some severe eye allergies. When I do wear makeup I use Bare Minerals for my face and also love their liner. I use a basic mascara without fibers and that's about it. A rose color lip and I'm done!

Actually, I was feeling exactly like you recently, Jane. Sort of in a slump with my look especially the makeup. I went to Ulta and talked with this young little consultant and just love what she did for me. I've had the most compliments. I'm not close by any of my new stuff to tell you the name of any of it, but sometimes we just need that little lift and have to try some new things.

The Moerks said...

Jane, I am hopeless with makeup. A swipe of blush, a bit of mascara and lippie are the norm. Occasionally I will wear some mineral powder or foundation if I really have to.
I am just not confident at all buying makeup. I have no idea really. I wish you were closer, I would get you to take me shopping and set me on the right path. Deb

Bare Escentuals mineral foundation for me. I feel much the same about mascara. Now that I have let my hair go grey I wear grey and charcoal eye shadow but lightly and it took forever to find the right one and I found it for three dollars at Aldi's grocery store of all places. I also wear light lavender shadow some times because I have green eyes and it does help show off my eyes. A peachy gloss after all that but all that takes only five minutes tops to apply

I enjoyed this post so much Jane.

Most days this ol' gal wears a good moisturizer and that is it. When I get gussied up, I use a mix of eye makeup products added to a base of Clinique foundation and blush. I've been a Clinique girl for about 30 years.

Hi Jane,
After so many years of wearing makeup I think I finally have it down to a science.
I wear Clinque products because I'm allergic to just about everything else. I use their cleanser, add mositurizer, some foundations, mascara, lip liner and blush. The blush I use is called Ruby Glow and it looks natural.
I guess even the prettiest of girls still need a little help.

Good post.

Oh my ~ I too remember the 80's ~ the more makeup the better and a big ole can of hairspray!!

I tend to go for less is more nowadays. I use Mac Studio Fix for a foundation, blush, eyeliner, mascara and lipstick. I can apply everything in less than 5 minutes and be out the door. Eye shadow is saved for special occasions and can take it or leave it. My fav mascara by far is Lancome Defincils but lately have used Stiletto by Max Factor (I think) ~ it does the job. The rest is Cover Girl and always start with Oil of Olay.

As for removers I use Neutrogena (sp?) eye makeup remover and Oil of Olay foaming face wash. I was having some issues with breakouts and this cleanser has witch hazel in it and helped.

I don't wear fragrance as where I work is scent sensitive so I use Pear Glace body lotion from Victoria's Secret and love it. It gives me that hint of yummy without being overpowering.

Fun Jane ~ can't wait to read through the rest of the comments! xo

Hi there. Such a good post. I am trying to improve myself, hah. I usually only wear moisturizer......Olay of Olay right now (for years Clinique and hope to return to it). I use a concealer and very seldom foundation. But, I need to do more.
I am going to try some of these suggestions for sure.
SMash box......where do you get that.
Thank you for all your sweet comments. I was oping to feel better by now. May call the doctor back tomorrow.......sometimes it's just that thought that makes you feel better.

I usually don't wear any makeup while at home, or going to the grocery store. But if we are going out, or having friends over for dinner, I wear eye shadow (usually brown, I have blue eyes) and mascara. I also wear a rose colored lipstick. That's it for me. I use the Ponds wipes to remove my makeup.

Hi again Jane... I had to come back and read everyones comments, too fun!... also, I forgot to mention the MAIN thing I do every day... LOTS of water!!! I have always drank alot of water, but now because of my kidney stones even more so... and it shows... think about a sponge dried out, then the difference in it when you put it in water... soft and plump again... same with our skin... xoxo Julie Marie

I'm very pale, too. I've used smashbox before - especially the eyeliner cream. But I'm not wearing eyeliner lately because it looks too harsh on me as I'm aging. When I do put on makeup, #1 is mascara, but like you, I hate taking it off at night. What a pain! Eyebrows need to be filled in, some concealer, foundation and a bit of blush. And my lipstick, too. I have very pale lips and need that splash of color!

An Oasis in the Desert said...

This is such a timely post, because I am struggling trying to find some products I like. I had very bad acne when I was 13 & 14, & our family Dr. told me to use Ivory soap, which I did faithfully. By the time I got to high school, my skin was clear & most of my friends were starting to get the acne -- I guess I just matured faster than they did.....lol! I've always had oily skin until I went through menopause, & now it's mostly dry with just a few areas of slight oiliness. Now that I live in the AZ desert, I'm glad I have that oiliness.

Anyway, I do work at taking care of my skin. I used to use Mary Kay & liked it, but didn't like the hassle of listening to a Consultant trying to get me to sell it (which I did for several years). Then a friend was selling Jafra, so I tried that & liked it, but again with the pressure to sell. Then I was off to Arbonne, but it was just too pricey after I retired. That's when my journey into the unknown began as I perused the aisles of the favorite big box stores....lol!

Right now, I'm using Neutrogena Visibly Even Foaming Cleanser, a store brand eye makeup remover, & Neutrogena Healthy Skin Firming Cream with a SPF 15 sunblock. I use this cream at night & like it, but it seems heavy for daytime. So I'm looking for something else. I use Loreal True Match Liquid Foundation w/sunscreen or Loreal's Mineral Powder every day just to give a layer of protection against our AZ sun. I use blush & eye shadow that's been kicking around for a good 15 years from when I sold Mary Kay -- that's probably not good, huh? I should probably toss all that out. I use Falsies mascara (Maybelline, I think) & Maybelline lipstick which I love.

I really like your idea of using the eyeliner instead of mascara. It is such a hassle. I'm also going to try the Neutrogena cleansing cloths. This was a great post & so helpful.

I have the same routine every day, day or night. Maybelline Powder Foundation, blush, eyeshadow in browns or grays, depending on what I am wearing. I use a dark brown or dark gray eyeshadow as a bottom lash eyeliner before putting on mascara. Lipstick is a must. I hate having dry lips. When I'm not wearing makeup and lipstick, I wear chapstick. In fact, I need some right now. I use L'oreal products on my face. The milk cleanser is great, never have a problem with getting mascara off. I can have my hair and makeup done every morning in about 5-7 minutes. :) Have a great rest of the day. Tammy

What a GREAT post! I was in a slump for years and recently started using tinted moisturizer and mineral make up and prefer it so much more, nothing cakey in the ole' wrinkles! Rarely do I use eyeshadow or mascara ~ wearing glasses has made me feel it's not worth the time?? LOL Back in my day black eyeliner (red stick?) was lit with a match and applied "warm"!!! I loved it, not so much now :) Judi xxoo

Myself, I have to put on makeup in the morning, I feel naked if I don't, I guess that's from working in cosmetics for four years. I
use a soap that is made from cucumbers and seaweed, a very ugly, green soap but you know what it works great and only costs $7.95 and will last forever! I use Loreal's AGE Perfect Golden Balm it's for your face, neck and chest, it's not greasy at all. After I have that on I use my Derma Wand morning and night yes, I bought one and I don't know what I'd do without it, I've been using it for about 4 years now and I've got my moneys worth out of it!
I love Bare Essentials, I've tried others and I always go back to it
I also use their primer too!
I like all eyeshadow but with brown eyes I usually wear plum or a green color, I've recently tried gray and like it. Eyeliner is from Estee Lauder and it's in a gel form which stays on really well so I'm sticking with it! I have a love/hate relationship with mascara(hate to wear it but do} and use Lancome, seems I buy a different one everytime I go to their counter, lipstick... I just recently found Clinque's Black Cherry...love it and stays on great!
I also worked in fragrances so for a while there I could identify a frangrance just by smelling it, right now I'm wearing Vera Wang's Lovestuck and I do love Ralph Lauren's Romance!

Great post BTW♥

Hi Jane ~ I wear pretty much the same makeup every day, whether I'm going to work that day or it's my day off and I'm staying at home or going grocery shopping or out with friends. I put some foundation on my cheeks and nose only, because I have fair skin with some redness. I try to cover that redness up. I also have oily skin, so I then dust my face with some powder. I then put on powdered blush, mascara (I don't use eyeliner or eye shadow), and lipstick or lip gloss. If I have a pimple (yes, sometimes I still get them even though I'm almost 50!), I will use a bit of concealer on that.

As for the dark circles under my eyes, I usually just leave them alone. I have found that if I try to cover the circles up, it looks even worse! It looks like big whitish "globs" under my eyes.

Good subject...thanks!

Interesting post, Jane! I wear the same make-up every day. Bare Minerals foundation, blush, and powder, some eye shadow and mascara. I want to be one of those girls who always has lipstick on but mine only lasts a short minute, no matter what brand I use. My lips are always chapped in the winter too, so that adds a new problem. There are days I don't bother at all, but most of the time I do. I just feel better with a little make up on. Also, I love Mary Kay eye makeup remover!

I am SERIOUSLY thinking about gettng permanenet brows done. I also dress most days. I enjoy wearing neat outfits. I am HOOKED on jackets.:):) As for brands I love Olay and Maybelline and Cover Girl. I am going to have to try the wipe off tissues that you recommended. It is very interesting reading the other comments:) XO, Pinky

I thought that was fun! I put my makeup on every morning...I just feel like I look sort of sickly without it. With that said, I don't do much. I use Bare Escentuals base, blush and brow powders, sometimes their shadow in neutral colors or MAC something colorful and sparkly if I'm dressing up. Mabelline mascara from the drugstore. I also use all the Mindful Mineral products that I wrote about and I really think they are making much more difference than my makeup ever did.

If I could only grab one item...it would be blush. I'm too pale without it.

Love this post! :) It's fun to change it up again once in a while.
I am a 'less is more' kind of girl. My daily routine includes: a little Maybelline loose mineral powder foundation, just to even out my skin tone a bit; eyeliner; mascara. That pretty much covers it, with the exception of my lip routine...if you could really call it that. I am addicted to good lip balms. They can have a little sheer color or they can be completely colorless. I don't care as long as they make my lips feel soft and smooth. I use Bert's Bees most of the time, but I also love EOS (my daughter is hooked on it!) and some of the glosses you can get from Bath and Body Works.

If I'm going out or just feel like going that extra mile, I add some eye shadow. I had an Estee Lauder duo that I loved, but it was a gift and I would NEVER spend that much on make up. Right now I have a quad that I received in a 'thank you' gift box from a women's magazine for which I had answered some surveys. Don't even remember what kind it is, but I like it! LOL! (I'm not too tough to please!)

Hi Janie,

This was such a fun post! Even though I was a teenager in the 90's, I do remember loving Wet N' Wild & Bonne Bell in the 80's when I was in Jr. High! lol These days, I'm very LOW maintenance! I mean I love make-up and the idea of it...just not that great at applying it. I just put enough so I don't look "dead' throughout the day! :) Sephora is a fun place for me to get make-up whenever I'm in need of some - that place is like a candy store for make-up addicts! lol Anyway, cute post!

Hugs,
Jessie

Hi Jane! I stick to inexpensive (drug store) makeup. And only the basics. But I definitely spend more on the skin care. It's like my face fell down on my last birthday! Haha! But I have always used a sunscreen on my face everyday. Really important for fair and dry skin. I bet your girls will love the vanity revamp!

Hey Jane,
Great post girlfriend!
I have many a forms of makeup but still tend to use drugstore brands and find they work well. Right now I am using
covergirl/oil of olay simply ageless foundation.
Revlons creme blush
Almays eye shadow in smoky for green eyes.
Rimmels glam eyes mascara which I love and it's cheap.
Rimmels eye liner
And the same lip gloss/sticks you are using.
For my face I use ponds and those little cloths you use.
I also use an alpha-hydroxy face creme.
This is a really fun post, good job!
We are supposed to be getting a big storm heading our way so I may be leaving early for the airport.
Hugs friend,
Cindy

I, too use the Bare Minerals and love them. I use mascara, eyeliner and always blush.
I use the makeup wipes by Neutrogena and love them!

I love good makeup remover towelettes, these are definitely a good product.

I don't wear much makeup tho, never have.. so I'd be a bit of a disapointment to you here. Moisterizer, a little under eye concealer, eyeliner and mascara. Oh, and lip balm. That's it, ever. Boring, I know.

I doubt anyone on the planet will be interested in what an olden woman like me wears on her wrinkled face but....

OIL OF OLAY has been my standby for icons.
CLINIQUE for foundation, blush and eyes
(IF cLINIQUE ever goes out, I am going UNDER...love it so much, I want to marry it.j)
COVERGIRL and OLAY in SIMPLY AGELESS concealer (I REALLY love this)
Covergirl and Clinique lipstick
Nighttime .... Jergens Face Cream...REALLY !!!
and...I put makeup on most every day....just an old habit from working plus I don't want to scare the water out of someone that sees me minus enhancements. :)))

This was fun, Blondie...a great idea.

I missed commenting on this post. so if I'm not too late.
I use Cover Girl everything, if they made a sweetner I'd put it in my coffee lol..
well I said everything but thats not true.:) I learned this trick while doing make up sessions for the Little Theater in greensboro nc.
instead of constantly searching for the RIGHT color eyebrow pencil- use a no. 2 writing pencil. its great no matter what color your brows and its easily adjustable by either being light handed or heavy handed lol. never turns red or gold and stays put.
10 8 ounce bottles of water a day and thats it for me.

so fun reading everyones comments

Girl, I have read everyone of these comments cos' I LOVE makeup! I think I look so horrid without it I hate to subject other people to me without it! lol I use drug store brands for the most part...some Mary Kay. Smoky browns on my blue eyes, brown liner, black mascara. I love the Mabelline mascara with the primer on one end and the mascara on the other. Waterproof. Blush in rose tones. And lip gloss...I don't wear lipstick either.

This was a great post!

This is fun! I haven't read all of the responses yet although I will. We always learn from others don't we? :-)

You know, when I was working, I spent a lot of $$$ on make-up...like Estee, Chanel, Lancome, you name it. So many of these manufacturers/suppliers also make the brands we find in the drugstores...Lancome makes L'Oreal for instance. I love L'Oreal eyeshadows and I LOVE playing with them! I am terrible about buying the "new" shades, although they are definitely for my age group now...no sparkles or blues. :-) I guess I should correct this as I do have one sparkly shade that I use as a tiny accent when going out at night.

I normally wear foundation by Revlon or Maybelline. They have formulas that are moisturizing for the 'more mature' skin. My skin is dry and sensitive so I have to be cautious about a lot of products. I love Bare Escentuals but powders are not the best for me.

Blush is a must as is eyeliner! My eyes really don't pop unless I have eyeliner. I use a dark charcoal or black and smudge so there's no harsh lines.

I have about 4-5 eyelashes so mascara really makes a difference for me. :-) I find that Maybelline's Great Lash is super!
I'm a nutcase about lipsticks too. LOVE trying different shades. I prefer L'Oreal over all the rest and a great lip gloss...Revlon also has a great gloss that is not "sticky". Can't stand those!

I'm loving the Boots 7 products too. I use Pond's or the Equate brand of cleansing towelettes.

I don't feel "good" about me if I don't have makeup on. I have dashed to the store or pharmacy with none on or very little and I feel embarrassed that I'm showing up like that, even for strangers. I think we only have one chance for a first impression. When I was married or in a relationship, I always felt it was important to be well groomed and have respect for "me". And...guys are normally around females all day that are well groomed & dressed up.

One thing I always, always do for 'ME' is to wear perfume daily. I may not have much makeup on but I'm smelling good! :-)

Fun post, Jane...I hope I haven't bored you. All this is fun and I get carried away.

xoxo
Pat

Hey...me again! :-)

Forgot to add that drinking a ton of water is very important for our skin, as well as our total body. I drink a ton and yes, I do have to get up at night. I think eating a lot of fresh fruit and veggies is important too.

I also forgot to say that I love MAC products as well as Bobbi Brown. Just don't pay those prices anymore.

Nail polish? I'm addicted! I normally always wear red on my toes but last pedicure I tried a gorgeous turquoise and I love it! Depending on my nails and if they are growing or not determines the shade of polish. I love red!

Also forgot about fragrances. My body is weird and they change on me so I have to be careful. My favorites for spring/summer are Cabotine & Cerrutti 1881. Both have the bath gels and lotions so it's wonderful to layer them. My fall/winter is "Hot" Couture by Givenchy. The best! ;-)

Bye for now...

Wow, great info on this post Jane! I moisturize with Oil of Olay morning and night, and use their makeup remover and eye cream. I recently tried Clinique Moisture Surge and that is WONDERFUL. I use Clinique foundation and Physicians Formula powder, drugstore blush and eyeshadow (usually in browns or grays), a little liquid liner on the top lid (still looking for a really good one) and Clinique mascara. I almost never wear anything on my lips, though on occasion pink lipgloss. Recently I discovered that there are some really helpful makeup tutorials on You Tube!

This is a great post! I could go on and on about makeup...and skincare products. I love trying new products. I've used Bare Minerals for about 10 years now but just recently discovered Halo from Smashbox. I really love it! I use various other products from Sephora and drugstore. I use olive oil to take my eye makeup off because I don't like the chemicals other products have.
I could really go on and on. Really great post!

I am an anti makeup girl. But lately I've been thinking I could use a little pick me up.

When I wear foundation it's by Philosophy. I should wear it all the time since my skin is so fair.

Because I am so fair skinned I feel that makeup makes me look like a drag queen. Perhaps I need a lesson in make up application.

What a fun post & even more fun to read all the wonderful sharing going on!

I have TONS of different make-up & love wearing different shades of polish & lip color, depending on the season or outfit. I'm high maintenance, in that I NEVER leave the house without make-up...not even to go play tennis!! LOL

I'm a firm believer that if you LOOK good, you FEEL good.

I'm pale, like you, with blue eyes so I mostly stick to charcoals & smokey browns on my eyelids for daytime & a wild splash of blue in the corners of my eyelids for a night out on the town.

I adore RED lipstick!

DAILY sunscreen is also a must. When I lived in FL, I wore Banana Boat for Baby's with an SPF of 50...they don't even make it that high anymore, but I don't have any wrinkles from those years in the sun, playing golf & tennis & water aerobics. Wish I would have remembered to use it on the backs of my hands, though.

This was a really fun post, Jane & I am going back over the comments to take notes on some items I'd like to try.
Thanks for getting everyone to share.

Hugs,
Rett

p.s. Forgot to say, I drink LOTS of water! Never without a glass nearby. Old Weight Watchers habit.

I've loved the comments almost as much as your post! I have a friend who sells Avon but I am not patient waiting for the order to come in when I want to try something new. Jofra, Mary Kay and a few others fall into the same category.

I am currently using Philosophy's "The Supernatural" mineral foundation, but I'm not sold on it. Liquid foundations, no matter how little I use or blend with moisturizer, always look too noticeable on me, at least to my eyes. They make me look better in photos but not face to face.

I really miss Revlon's Vital Radiance primer. It was sheer but had just enough color to make make me look better. I liked a lot of their products but the line was discontinued.

My favorite mascara is Buxom by Bare Escentuals. I sometimes follow that with a coat of Maybelline's Volum' Express.

I am driven by color rather than brand when it comes to blush and lipstick and don't often wear eyeshadow anymore. I do love to play with makeup though and will probably link to this post soon and write about cosmetics on my blog. Traveling recently and putting stuff into bags to go got me to thinking about what I was using, what needs replacing and just what isn't working.

Thanks for the makeup remover suggestion. I bought a generic drugstore brand for the last trip and it was money wasted.

I've never really worn too much make-up...I'm a lip gloss, mascara, blush wearing kinda girl...oh...and can't forget the under eye concealer...otherwise it'll look like I was in some kinda brawl ;o)
