GARDENING IN & OUT

It's a gorgeous day here, it just hit 50 degrees and I plan to spend as much time outside as I can. It smells so fresh; I have all the windows open, I'm having another pot of coffee and I think even the dogs are smiling. Spring can do that, you know.

It was a gorgeous weekend here, too. It got up to 83 on Sunday, which is very strange for the Midwest this time of year. Everyone and their grandmother were out, but Emily and I amused ourselves shopping. We went to Target to look for a runner for the bottom of the stairs and came out with everything but the runner. I think that warrants a trip back, don't you think?
The yard clean up was done yesterday and everything looks neat as a pin. The Husband went out looking for a new rototiller for the garden on Saturday and the type we want is not in stock at Home Depot, so we will be ordering one online. I am really anxious to plant my garden this year, I have my seeds and I need some plants. I am even going to try my hand at strawberries here and blueberries at the lake. I know we have a few frosts to come, so I will be good to go up until May 1st, then it starts to get late in the season and I'm might not have any vegetables until August.

My red twig dogwood is blooming and I cut some branches to bring inside. They almost look like forsythia. I planted this guy when we first moved in and it is a monster now. My daffodils and tulips are just getting ready to open...finally.
The little seeds that I planted 10 days ago are coming up nicely. Well, the chives and sweet peas are doing well and the rosemary and basil are a bit behind. I feel like a little kid with a science project. This will amuse me until I can get out and get my hands in the dirt. It's all about patience, I guess.
So there we have it for a little gardening post. I'm linking up with Tracie at Fishtail Cottage for Cottage Flora Thursday. She has a great blog, you should visit her. Especially if you love your garden. Do you love your garden? :-)

Yes, I think another trip to Target is definitely on the agenda. The yellow blooms are beautiful. It doesn't matter how many times I plant seeds, the excitement of waiting for little green shoots to appear, and watching them grow, never goes away for me.

We had our 80 degree weather yesterday here in NJ and it was super invigorating. I am also trying strawberries and blueberries for the first time this year (in containers on my deck) and the fingers are crossed. Look forward to see how yours turn out.

Yes the weather has been wonderful here too! Much warmer than is usual for this time of the year.
I love flowers picked from the garden. The yellow broom flowers look so cheerful.
Rain and cooler temperatures are forcast for the next few days here in UK. I hope that you hold on to the lovely weather for a bit longer.

It does a soul good to putter in the garden doesn't it???? :) ENJOY Jane! You deserve it after all the cold you had this winter. We are having new grass put in the back & new stone walk ways. Can't wait until that is done. I even bought a few tomatoe plants. I haven't done that in years! But, I'm getting a new bed in back which will be perfect. What herbs are you planting? Have a great week my sweet friend. HUGS!

You are so much warmer there than we are just a few hours north of you! I DO think you need to go back to Target- After all, you DO need a runner, don't you?

What kind of rototiller did you decide to get? No matter what kind it is you will LOVE having one! It makes things so easy...and if you plant your rows the exact width of the rototiller's reach you can weed between the rows very easily.

Have a great Tuesday- I am back at work until the weekend...and then going to a State match for my granddaughter. Hugs on this Spring day- Diana

I love the way those pots of seeds look on your window. I always enjoy watching the growth that happens so quickly this time of year. It seems like two days ago I couldn't find a bud and now I see Daffodils blooming and buds on all the trees. It's raining here today and I love that too. When we have the rainy season it seems you can almost watch the trees turning green in fast motion.

Enjoy your temperatures and the pretty blooms all around.

Hi Jane Sweetie...
I love your post today. So beautiful.
I am so thrilled to hear that you love Target as well. (Target is one of my all time favs to go to. We have one close to work, and at least every other week, I pop over during a lunch hour. It is such fun to shop there. I try to check out the end caps, as they have the best clearance sales, YEA!!!!)

Your yellow blooms are positively gorgeous. I bought some fake ones, and strung a set of little twinkling lights in amongst them, and they look SO beautiful. I put them in the corner of the living room. I love it.

Your seedlings are coming along beautifully. You go girl. I haven't tried from the seeds in a long time, but I am going to try as I have longed for some morning glories. I can't find any, none zip anywhere, so I am off to seeds, I'll keep you posted on that one.

I am going to purchase some strawberry plants for my strawberry pot this year, and I actually have 8 blooms on my tomato plant in a pot on the patio. I love fresh ones, so I decided to give it a try.

Have a glorious Wednesday sweetie. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

Wow! You are so good in planting from seeds. I have not done that but I laid a mat with seeds for the first time. I will see if it grows. I did not bake the choco. nest, Janie. I just melted the choco. morsels and them mixed the coconut and placed them in a ramekins, just at the bottom and sides and then refrigerated them till they hardened again. I lined the ramekins with wax paper so they don't stick and they came out beautifully. You're right, we should have taken a picture of the bird that you caught. But that was a chimney swift for sure, cause that's where they come in from, the chimney.....Christine

Hi Jane!

Your little window garden is coming along nicely. DH has his heirloom tomatoes started from seed in the sunroom. We are both craving some warmer weather so we can go DIG!!

You might want to rethink putting blueberry bushes at the lake house, where you can only get there on the weekends. My sister has huge bushes on her property & they have to covered with netting just as soon as the fruit sets or the birds will pick them clean. She doesn't put the nets on early, as the leaves will grow into them & make the difficult to remove later.

Also, blueberries ripen every single day. She has to go out EVERY day or so to harvest the ripe ones. It is an ongoing task once they start showing up. Soooo worth it, though!

Each of us sibs get Cool Whip containers full of fresh blueberries from her all summer long. Just so you know, you have to be there to take care of them.
I hope yours are as prolific as her's!!

Hugs,
Rett
