HELLO JANUARY

Well. it is Monday and the first official back to normal day since the holidays. Now is when I could really use a list of resolutions or even a To Do list. I feel a little lost without all the rush and buzz of the holidays...that destination point. I feel as if all I do now is turn corners and find myself in the same place. I'm doing laundry, cleaning out a few drawers, defrosting food for dinner, letting the dogs in and out...exciting stuff, eh? It is hard to get motivated to do more...I still feel like I could use a little rest after the past 4 weeks. So...does anyone else have the 'After Holiday Blahs'?
Last week I said I was going to stay away from the after Christmas sales, but once in my car I was magically driven to Target. I bought a new saute pan and replenished some of my candles and then my cart magically took me to the clearance section. Wow...I really thought there wouldn't be too much left but there was gobs of stuff. Wrapping paper, you can never go wrong with that and I am reaching for that sometimes before it is even out in the stores. Ornaments. 50% off. How do you like my owls and squirrels? Yes, my tree is still up. It is so darn healthy, I just can't imagine flinging it out to the curb. The branches have not even fallen. At this rate we may have it until spring. I am still loving the glow of the lights and seeing the pretty decorations here and there...I'm not ready for the starkness of January yet.

I have been collecting mercury glass for awhile now and I have decided that I will leave some I use for Christmas out for the year. I found these faux pieces at Target for $1.50. So...I did what I said I wasn't going to do, but actually I had fun and that is what counts.
New Years Eve was a little quiet. We snacked a lot on cheese, sausage, assorted crackers and artisan bread and some fresh shrimp. I was falling asleep on the couch so I went to bed at 9:30, thinking I'd get up later, but it was more like 9:30 the next morning. Around here, people blow off fireworks at midnight and I never even heard that. I'm normally a fun person. Honest.

I am leaving you with a picture of our chandelier over the dining table. As you can see, it is in terrible shape. Only one light works. We have always called it the "Disco Ball", that is, everyone except for The Husband who bought it before we were married. Anyway, I have a story coming up
for you, hopefully soon.
Well, I am going back to my laundry. I hope all of you are up to something more invigorating. Have a great week! :-)

I'm so glad you made it to the after Christmas sales, and I love what you found, Janie! So cute!

I am still trapped inside, and I fear what I might do once unleashed. I am still determined to celebrate Christmas, and it just might be in February at this rate. LOL!

Glad you are beating the blahs with some fun purchases!

XO,

Sheila :-)

I have my stuff still up too and I haven't done any post Christmas shopping. I need to go and you have motivated me to go and see what might be for me!

Hi Jane! I think it's so easy to get the blah's after the holidays. Don't feel bad about your tree, just enjoy it. You'll know when it's time. I've had to work on not taking mine down the 26th!! Sometimes we just need a break in life.
big hugs for the New Year,
Debra

Well, I did the Hobby Lobby 66% off sale for wrapping paper and today I got some 75% Christmas cards! I also said I wasn't going to add to my stash but it is hard when it is so cheap:)

The after the Holidays is a little blah for me too! I kept my 5 year old Granddaughter which was fun! She came right in and asked "where did the nutcrackers go"? I told her that they had to go back to their home in the attic:)

Hope the New Year brings you some excitement and perhaps a new chandelier:) HUGS!

We still have a houseful, Jane, so no blahs setting in yet. At the end of the week the littlies leave with our son and DIL and I have a feeling I'll crash when that happens. Our tree always stays up until January 6th and this year it will be a day longer so that it doesn't come down while the children are here.
Love the faux mercury!

I got involved in some projects Christmas weekend, Jane, and that seemed to help. Of course, I haven't put my decorations away yet, so those blahs could just be waiting until I do that! I am looking forward to getting back to "normal" (decor wise), so I will be putting a little away each night this week after work and hope that it is all done by the weekend.

I was a disappointed with Michael's clearance and I also stopped at Pier 1, they had more ornaments than anything else. I still have to get to Target, so maybe I'll luck out that they will still have some things. It doesn't even have to be Christmas themed but I did want to get a new tablecloth and napkins since I couldn't find mine this Christmas.

Hi Jane, your posts are always so fun!...glad you found some things on sale at Target... I am definitely staying away from the sales of Christmas stuff! It took me forever to put all of mine away this year... and now my thoughts are of Spring... I chase away those after~Christmas blues with my garden journal and plans for Springtime blooms... can't wait to hear your chandelier story!... xoxo Julie Marie

I just took my stuff down yesterday and this morning (the cleaning lady is coming and that motivated me). I understand the let down and the intrusion of real and everyday life.

Love your new stuff. I'm excited about your chandelier. I love chandeliers, I hope a NEW one is in your future!

Karen thisoldhouse2.com said...

You know, that's actually not a bad chandelier - all it needs is a coat of paint....and ofcourse bulbs that work... in a shabby vintage ivory or the color of your choice - and new shades! Just ask Kim of Savvy Southern Syle - she knows how do just about anything make-over-ish. I know that's not a word.

Hi Jane! I feel your post! I have been away at the beach for a few days of R&R with my husband. Like you, I fell asleep on the sofa at the beach at about 10 on New Year's Eve! Fun! Fun! That's me! :-) I was so exhausted as you were from the holidays. I do hope you are healing from your loss! You had so much more to be exhausted about! I'm like you in that I still have every single Christmas decoration still up! I will get to it when I get to it. I didn't return home until late this afternoon. So it'll be there when we get ready to tackle it, won't it? Happy New Year lovely lady!

I saw many after christmas sales and somehow ( I don't know what is wrong with me) I avoided buying anything christmas. I think that it may have something to do with the fact that I got rid of two christmas trees and a few bags or decorations this year. If I buy more stuff... well, you know.
I am trying to avoid the blah.. today I rejoined the gym and continued to clean and organise my house. Now.. I am just waiting for some snow days.
Have a great tuesday.

I used to go to the after Christmas Sales every year. I was at Michael's for frames and found some ribbon bargains, the other day. That was the extent of my after Christmas shopping.

Your find is so cute!

We will leave for the lake tomorrow. Would have today, but needed a prescription that was just filled a little while ago, as they were waiting for our doctor to call. Also waiting for a package from Amazon with Drew's b'day present. Was supposed to be here today...oh well! We will go to the lake very early in the morning, since we are all packed. Might even leave before daylight. That will be a definite blah buster.:-)

Well, my friend, if you are looking for a rejuvenating booster shot from me....you must know that I fell asleep around 11:00 on New Year's Eve and as for New Year's Day... I never got out of my PJs.

Hey Jane! My exciting day... oh yea, back to work, ugh. I put out snowmen after Christmas, it just fills a little of the holiday void and makes me smile! Of course, a little shopping never hurts either:@)

Hi Jane, Happy New Year, I'm not blah at all (yet) thankfully, busy today taking Christmas stuff down and liking how clean and uncluttered the rooms look. This time of year helps me get motivated when it comes to decluttering and clearing cupboards etc, plus getting back on track with eating healthier and trying to get in some exercise!

Can't wait for the story, Janie. The squirrel and owl are cute. My tree is still up too and I can't take it down cause I am having another dinner party tomorrow. I finally met all the Filipino families here and I invited them all, only 15 of us total here with our family and I invited my friend Debjani and her sis in law if she can make it, so that's 17 people. Keep on shopping, it's fun!...Christine

I have been sick in bed since New Year's Eve so today was my first day out of the house. Needless to say my New Year's was extra quiet. I have been to no sales and yes, I did have the blah's after it all ended...but then I was sick. Today I am feeling like looking into what I can get into...decorating, changing things a little...even a little planning for some winter mini vacations. My house is cleaner today so that makes me feel better :) ~Hugs, Patti

Nothing like a good dose of after Christmas sales to keep you goin!

Hi Jane, I am so happy that you discovered my blog and in return I get to visit yours.
The stocking idea came after too much shopping at fleamarkets etc. in Germany and Austria.
I was hooked on the hand-made beauties, but how display them all. That is when I thought of the chairs and of course the mantel.
I hope you get to do it next year!
In November I bought some wonderful birds covered in musical paper and edged in German glass glitter for 1.oo in Target. Could not believe it.
Did not however go to any sales after Christmas.
I girl has to do, what a girl has to do to get over the after Christmas blues.
I am glad you had fun.
I wish you a happy and healthy New Year,
warm wishes, Evi

I guess I'm a little odd, but I typically am invigorated by January. To me it is a new beginning and that means lots of purging, cleaning and reorganizing. It keeps my mind busy so the blahs can't settle in and take up residence. ;) Hope your blahs go away and then you can enjoy the new year. :)

I haven't gone near the stores since Christmas. You did score some great things! I do have a few returns to take care of but I'm in avoidance...started to go today but decided "tomorrow". :-) I have so much going on trying to get this place settled so I'm not in the mood to bring in anything. Would be great if I stayed in that mood! :-)

The guys came this afternoon to replace the pad and carpeting so that is finished. Now I just have to have a conversation with the lead mntc guy to see about the repairs to be done on the outside to avoid this happening again. I hesitate to move things back in that closet/bedroom area.

Have a wonderful week!

Cute, fun decor and how can we not do a little after Christmas shopping? It's like in our DNA or something! hehe.
We stayed home on New Year's and I babysat!
I was happy as a clam and Addison and I fell asleep on the couch.
I woke up at 11 , watched New Year's in New York, fed her and went back to sleep!
You hang in there girl, I know you've been going through a hard time!
Thinking of you!

You found some wonderful things at the after Christmas sales I see. We had snow right after Christmas so I didn't make it to any sales, but I do still have my tree up. Our New Year's Eve was quiet too and if our son hadn't come in to tell us the ball was dropping we would have missed it. We were busy watching Ugly Betty with our daughter. Pretty exciting eh?!

I hope you have a wonderful new year and I can't wait to see what happens with the disco ball!

"So...does anyone else have the 'After Holiday Blahs'?"

I kind of think, they go-with-the-territory. ,-) I used to have them on Dec. 25th! And that was kind of weird. Bleahhhh... I mean, the HIGH point was Dec. 24th and it was all down-hill from there.

Wrapping and toys and stuff all over! Trying to get it cleaned up, before family came to visit. Having that visit, when I just wanted to curl up and go to sleep. Etc. Gracious! How did I ever survive those days, hu? lol.

But there's nothing like a cold-from-hell, to make you feel down! Ugh, ugh, ugh... When this is gone, I'll HAVE to "feel up." :-)

You don't have to herald in the New Year to be a fun person! We were up this year, but there have been a few that we missed, waking up with a start sometimes 15 minutes late, sometimes not until morning.

I didn't go anywhere to look at post-holiday clearances but I did order a few things online that were too good to pass up. *BIG grin*

I bought a couple of more things tonight while I was out ~ I can't resist ~ it is like a magnet pulling me to the clearance section. I also got some wrap which you can never go wrong with in my honest opinion! I finally got Christmas all packed up over the week-end ~ everything looks so stark ~ I am not a clean lines girl at all! I was back to work today and it is quite depressing when we checked out the calendar and found the next long week-end is in April! Have a great week Janie. xo

It always has been hard for to let the Christmas decor go with the warmth and coziness of all the lights. So I started leaving my mantle greenry up and decorating it for Valentines! From sometime in September to the middle of February we have twinkling lights all a glow.
I join you in the January slump and feel as though Christmas never happened here. We were all alone and didn't even wrap gifts for each ... All our normal festivities were curtailed. With the bitter cold and snow outside I just want to curl up with a good book. I finally made it out yesterday while waiting for an appointment to the after Christmas sales just to find most all gone. I am glad you found tons and really like all your adorable finds.

I also want to wish you a wonderful, wonderful 2011 full of happiness, blessings and lots of laughter. Thanks for being such a lovely bloggy friend through the last few years.

xx Coty

Jane,
Hope you are having a great new year...I have been so busy with all the wedding plans and we went on a five day family vacation. I see that you hit Target too...I was there when they opened on the 26th...then off to church I went:)

Blessings,
Linda

January is a quirky month for me. I usually get the blahs the day after UNLESS I take in the holiday sales. I didn't do that this year and it seems I missed out on a lot!

I think that chandie could be a great project. Could be really pretty with some paint...you could try it out as a blog project!

Happy to have found your blog, have a great weekend!

Those sales are way too tempting Jane. I'm nesting instead...Looking forward to seeing what your plans are for the chandelier Jane!

My daughter bought two different brass chandeliers similar to this at ReStore and painted them. One is bright red for her entryway. SO CUTE.
