We had son Kevin and his fiance Mary Clare over for dinner last Thursday night and I got to use those bargain dishes I found at Target. I thought I would do a quickie post to show you the simple but pretty table and join up with Marty and all the ladies for Table Top Tuesday.
It was a simple dinner that started with a field green salad. I didn't set out wine glasses because Mary Clare and I had been sipping glasses in the living room before dinner and we just brought them to the table. I do have 2 sets that I like to use in the winter, one a green shade that matches the dishes perfectly, and a gold set. I also wanted to mention because I am asked a lot...my dining table is from Pottery Barn going back about 20 years ago. Also the chairs. Very simple and rustic.
I didn't take any food pictures but we had chicken breasts done up in Panko bread crumbs and sauteed in butter, olive oil and garlic, Alfredo noodles, french green beans and corn {Kevin's favorite}. I made banana bread for dessert. We really had a nice time.
Halloween turned out to be a beautiful day here, in the 60's and just the right amount of sunshine. The trick or treaters came down the street like they were in a costume parade; we get a lot here in the city. Milo and Layla were going nuts. Of course I ate my fair share of Tootsie Rolls and felt really bad about it. What is your favorite candy? I have a ton left, but I like to freeze it and put it in the Christmas stockings. Not very festive but the kids don't care. I also like to give out Halloween pencils and creepy spider and skeleton rings. A big hit.
I hope every one of you had a great weekend and are welcoming November with open arms. I am putting my Halloween things away today but leaving out all the fall decorations. That hasn't stopped me from oohing and ahhing over all of the neat Christmas decorations in the magazines and catalogs. Have you seen the new Ballards? Burlap ribbon!! I think they have been spying on us!
Have a Happy Week everyone! :-)

Hi Jane,
What a beautiful and warm table you have set!
My favorite candy is snickers and then peanut butter cups.
We used to get a ton of trick or treaters in town, but now none at all!
I am going to check out Ballards! Your right, I bet they have been spying! And burlap is so cheap and they sell things for so much!
Hugs Friend,
And it was great talking to you on Saturday!
Cindy
Perfect for a fall meal! The candles are just perfect. PB also have a burlap ribbon for Chritmas, with wired edges.
Tracey
Your setting is very inviting Jane and the table is beautiful-I love simple and rustic!
I like candy corn, unless of course there's some Godiva dark chocolate up for grabs:@)
PS-the nutcracker is still homeless.
What a lovely, heart-warming post.
The evening sounds like great fun. And the food sounds GORGEOUS!
Yum!
Count me in next time. :-)

Your table is not just inviting but makes you want to sit down and grin in the candle light!! It is beautiful, kind of Williamsburg looking! Love the color combinations and dishes...so pretty! The acorn wire basket is charming as are your dishes...love it! You must like the new fiancee' too to be drinking wine with her...have fun planning!!
What a pretty table you've set!...and the meal sounded delicious.
I don't know Ballards at all, so I'll have to go and have a look - thanks for the tip.
Beautiful Jane...and cozy. Love it!
You set a nice table for your family dinner. It sounds like you had a great time.
We didn't get many trick-or-treaters here, maybe four groups. That's fine with me!
I'm ready to put Halloween away but it probably won't happen for me until the weekend.
My favorite candy(s)~~~ Sweetarts, swedish fish, twizzlers
These lovely soft earthy tones make for such a serene table, Jane! Your new dishes blended well with everything. I ♥ that color & your pretty table, too.
I spent the day tucking away witches & jack-o-lanterns but all the autumn colors are still up till T'day.
We didn't get one single T or T'r. :(
I'm going to donate the remaining candy to our church which takes it to the homeless shelter. They need the calories...I sure don't!!
Jane,
I love your table and chairs. This is the plank goodness that has made me redo my kitchen table. I love your tablescape too. Very casual and perfect for a fall gathering. Very nice.

Jane, your dinner looks warm and cozy. I like almond joys. I had all of five treaters and should freeze my candy like you:)))
Hey Blondie girl! Your table looks inviting and warm. I like the soft green of the plates and the contrast of it with the classic whites. I put Halloween away, as well. What a mess I create when I play! I am anxious for winter items to be displayed- guess it's because I put fall up so early. I am off the candy- need to get skinny... LOL But I love, love Almond Joys! And of course, my all time favorite chocolate is a local company called Esther Price. It is such rich, creamy milk chocolate. Turtles are my nemesis!!! How come all the regional candies have women's names? Fanny Mae, Esther Price, etc. I guess I should freeze the candy I have left over from Friday's night of Trick or Treating, like you did. Out of sight, out of mind....
xo Sue
Your table is so pretty. It's so inviting, and it's so nice to sit around a nice, warm table over good conversation, especially as we get into these cooler days.
My favorite candy is heath bars. Unfortunately, the kids didn't bring many of those home this year, lol.
The older I get the bigger my sweet tooth gets. I like all kinds of candy. I am pretty partial to Tootsie Rolls though.
Your table looks great! La
simple and pretty... just the way it should be! ;)
What a wonderful table Janie ~ loving the candles and your new dishes look great.
I love chocolate ~ I have a hard time turning any of it down! We have a bunch left here ~ I think I will go and grab some now. ;o)
Yes, I've seen the new Ballards! L-O-V-E-L-Y! But then so is your table. Very! I adore that PB table of yours you know.
Brenda
I wanna come, Janie :( It all looks so cozy and pretty. The food sounds yummy! I am, too, loving the decorations in all the magazines. I just ordered a new slim Christmas tree for the Cape house from QVC. As soon as it arrives, up it will go. Yippee!!!!
Dinner looked divine. What does Mary Clare think of all your decorating? My daughter in law is pretty sarcastic about it but, my GRANDS adore that I decorate for each season. That's OK I do it for them (& Hubby & I because we like it). My favorite candy???? Peanut Butter Cups & Peanut M&M's. I was good this year & only had a mini pack with 5 M&M's in it. I NEED TO BE GOOD BECAUSE I'VE BEEN SOOOOOOOOOOO BAD! Hugs
Charlene
Jane, your table looks warm and inviting with your new plates. Great find!
I was looking at Ballards last night. Love the ME beaded stockings. As for Halloween ~ I got it all packed and put away today. On to November! ~ Sarah
what a pretty table for your special guests to sit at. so pretty Jane.
I put away my Halloween items too and YES I saw the ballard catalog.. you;re so right they have been spying on us:)
Hi Jane, your fall dinner looks wonderful! I have always loved your beautiful rustic table, so inviting! I love your Autumn decorations here and there as well... I also love your new daughter~in~law to be's name... so pretty!... All of my Halloween is put away as well, with Autumn decor left up through Thanksgiving... wishing you a beautiful week ahead... xoxo Julie Marie (My favorite Halloween candy is sugar coated jelly pumpkins!)
What a beautiful table dear Jane! I know your guests enjoyed the extra special effort you put in to make it so wonderful!
Enjoy your evening! HUGS!
What a nice tablesetting...your meal sounds delicious.
I pretty much love all candy, unfortunately. We got a lot of trick-or-treaters so I got rid of it all, but then my kids brought a bunch home :(
Burlap RIBBON? WOW!!! Gonna have to see it! I've never heard of Ballards but I'll be looking it up! Your table was lovely and please, do me a favor. Save me a Tootsie Roll. Those are my faves! ;)
Hello November!!!
Loving that table
Hi Janie! Luv your table! It looks so warm and inviting and rustic. Your dinner sounds absolutely scrumptious, too! I'm going to have to try that chicken recipe. I love using Panko. I just got the Ballard catalog. I'll have to definitely spend some time in it tonight... :)
Have a wonderful week, friend!
xoxo laurie
PS My fav candy is Reeses PB cups or Mounds or Butterfinger or M&Ms or.....well, you get the picture. lol!
Hello Blondie...Girl I love it when the family comes to dinner..but you out did yourself..My kids always want to know where the paper plates are ha ha!! Hey they still do the dishes like they did when they were little...Oh I know I'm spoiled and lovin it girl..
Now about the Tootsie rolls I eat a ton of them last night...told you I buy candy every year and then have to eat it...I'm still working on the Snickers,Hershey bars ha ha!! Hey it's a dirty job but someone has to do it...Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
Wonderful table! I love it's simplicity. The food sounds yummy. And I love the Target dishes. Glad you had a good time with your son. :-)
I LOVE your rustic table, and what romantic and charming place settings!! You always dress up a table just right, Jane. :)
This sounds like a very nice dinner, Janie. Glad oyu had a nice Halloween. I did not. My mom was admitted to the hospital last Sat afternoon, cause she almost collapsed while we were on a chili cook off on the bluff. I think I overworked her too much and her BP went down to 80/30. She is already looking 100% better so I think she will come home tomorrow....Christine
While I love to look at a very formal table setting in a photo, your table is truly more inviting and says relax and enjoy.
A very pretty setting! The soft colored dishes are lovely.
Katherine
Dinner sounds pretty darned good to me.
That table is a nice one and the table setting is very inviting. I always set the table up with the wine glasses and then we go and take them all off before dinner to have a glass of wine. I should just leave them off to begin with.
Hi there! What a beautiful tablescape! I could just sit there and relax a bit! We didn't do any trick or treating because we were out of town and got back too late so we have tons of candy. I'm gonna check out Ballards! Have a great night.
Sandra
The table looks beautiful. It's so simple, but just perfect. I love the dishes and the linens. Gorgeous!
Hi Jane~~your table is so warm and cozy for a lovely Autumn night. LOVE the candles glowing for an inviting effect.
I love Bit-O-Honey..but will eat anything chocolate.
Debbie@houseatthelake
That's a very lovely dining setting you have there Jane. So lovely and cosy and inviting.
Hi Janie...
Ohhh...it sounds like you had a fabulous family dinner, my friend! Close family, casual...the best!!! I love your new salad plates! They make for a lovely autumn table! Jane, what are the white dishes that you are using...if you don't mind me asking? I have been looking at Mikasa's English Countryside...they look very similar. Ohhh...and before I forget, your olive green dinner napkins are sooo pretty...love those!
Wow...you had a busy halloween! We live so far out in the country that we never have trick-or-treaters...it's kind of sad! I have even stopped buying candy for halloween but I love tootsie rolls as well! wink! Hehe! Just wanted to thank you for coming by and leaving such a sweet note, my friend! You always brighten my day!
Warmest autumn wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design
Ooops...just lil' ol' me again. I just received the Ballards catalog as well...ohhh my goodness...sooo many pretties! Today the Pottery Barn catalog came...it's gorgeous too! I remember my Grandma calling catalogs "the wish book"...so it is!!! Hehe!
Love ya,
Chari
Warm and inviting. I would want to have a homecooked meal at your table.
Such an Autumn feeling.
I must say I watched the Patriots game and didn't have a single trick or treater. Note to self: bring the candy to work to avoid eating all of it myself.
What a lovely warm cosy atmosphere you have created. Sounds like a fun meal.
Hi Jane, I love the look of your table, it is so cozy and dinner sounded delicious. We had a lovely warm evening too for Halloween, Kristen had a blast as usual :) Have a great day. Hugs Denise
So pretty and inviting. Love your gorgeous tablescape and your table is so pretty too. The Acorn is fabulous. Thanks so much for linking to TTT. Hugs, Marty
Your table setting is charming and your dinner menu sounds delish!!
Lots of love,
Susan and Bentley

Dear Jane,
Your table looks beautiful and, how lovely to have your son and his fiance for dinner.
Hallowe'en isn't celebrated quite as much in the UK as it is over there, although it gets bigger and bigger every year.....funny that as I think we started it in Pagen times !! We celebrate Guy Fawkes night on November 5th......Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605 and it has been a holiday and celebration ever since, as he failed on his mission !!
I love November....actually, I love every month....they all have something to offer.
Enjoy November, Jane. XXXX
Thanks Jane you are kind, lovely husbands aren't we lucky?
Love Sarah x
Your fall tablescape is so warm and inviting! The bargain dishes from Target look fantastic. Of course, that table is amazing!
Jane

Beautiful table! Love wood tables like that and the candles are perfect, so warm and inventing. It seems to be a warmer fall this year, I am not complaining!
Hi Jane,
Thanks for visiting...I love your fall candlelit table! So warm and soft looking!
You asked about washing burlap..I put mine on delicate in my washing machine..but mine was just plain old burlap from the fabric store...if you have the finer grade burlap you might hand wash to be sure not to damage it. My burlap was less than $5.00 so I wasn't worried about damaging it! LOL..have a great fall season!
Miss Bloomers
Dear Jane
It all looks so warm and inviting.. YOu must be enjoying having your DIL to be over... lots of happy times in your household.... As for christmas.. it will be upon us before we know it... It's very different here as it is in the heat of summer... but I can see the decorations out in the shops already!!
Thanks for popping by.. I know everyone said earplugs.. but.. they don't stop it!! ahahah.. ciao xxx Julie
Lovely table, Jane....sounds like a lovely, yummy meal.
& Good for you on freezing the candy... I will most likely eat my whole bowl. We live a litte out in the country & usually don't get a one trick or treater... BUT I am always prepared just in case. :)
PS... went to New Buffalo on Sun. afternoon on your recommendation. A very lovely little town. We drive by so often, but never get off the main roads to get there. SO DIL & I made a point to stop on our way back home. Thanks for sharing about it.
Hi Jane! Your table looks lovely! It sounds like a wonderful evening! The food sound yummy, too! I found a dentist who would take leftover candy and mail it to the troops. Whew! Those Three Musketeers wouldn't stop calling my name! Happy week!...hugs...Debbie
Your tabletop is lovely!!! So cozy . We had many many trick or treaters...it was very mild here too.
November hugs my friend. xoxo
Hi Jane, I too love the warm and simple look you have created. It is just right for an evening with family. I wasn't even aware Pottery Barn had been around for 20 yrs. ! Really?
My Halloween is down as well but watch out for the turkeys!
Donna
Love your blog. I have become a follower. Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving such a sweet comment. I so appreciate it. Hope you will come back again.
Oh Janie,
I love those chairs with their swirly backs (for lack of a better decorating term here ;) Cute table, I would love to take a seat and dream. I have things from Pottery Barn from way back too, you've found a lovely table set. Sorry I missed it!
xo~Tracie
Hi pretty Blondie Janie! OH, I love your pretty table and the way you've set it. I'm sure your son and fiance loved it. Your food sounds delicious!
Well, I love anything milk chocolate and have a little stash of peanut butter cups hidden in the kitchen for moi! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I have received my new BALLARDS, but I have looked at it...maybe I will on my trip to the game on Saturday. Your tablescape looks wonderful!
Blessings,
Linda
Hi Jane, What a gorgeous fall table, super cozy:-))
Bella
Your dining room has such a warm glow to it. I really like your candals and fall decor. It's so engaging and I love that bowl of candy.
Great idea to freeze the candy..so..I'm going to do that.
Everything is lovely! I'm glad you had a great Halloween. So did we!
What a warm and welcoming table. I am welcoming November with open arms.
Now I have to head over to Ballards. :)
Thanks for your concern, Janie. My mom looks good thsi morning and I finally got some sleep last night. I really like your table. I love the rustic look...Christine
Janie, I love this tablescape. It is so warm and the perfect setting for a fall dinner. First of all, I'm crazy about the rustic looking wood on that table. And I adore your chairs. Add to that the neat dishes and the other accoutrements, and it is perfect. Wish I was there dining with you.
Congrats to your son and his wife to be. That's very exciting news! I hope they will be very, very happy together.
Hope you are having a good week. I'm still trying to catch up after my trip, and I'm tired from lack of sleep. But hopefully that will all iron itself out soon.
Warm hugs...
XO,
Sheila :-)
Your table looks beautiful, but you always have just the right touch. We only had 2 trick-or-treaters this year...such a bummer!
Your table is so welcoming and your menu sounds so good. My favorite candy is a heath bar but I can never find them anymore.
Favorite candy...we sure love twix here :) Your table is great - perfect for fall...see - good thing you got those dishes - they look fantastic!
Karla & Karrie
Funny you should ask Jane...My fave candy right now is Jujus. Weird huh? They are awful for my teeth, but I can't leave them alone right now. I don't care for too many candy bars, so I make it up in licorice and jujus.
I love your table and have admired it when I have caught glimpses of it before. Sometimes things just should NOT be painted. Like this and your wood floors, unless they were beat up pine plank floors like mine were. We do not want your dear hubby keeling over. Did you hear me??? Do not paint the floors and put hubs in the hospital!!! LOL!!!
I loved what you you said about enjoying your girls. Aren't they the best. I am glad to hear that you had a lovely evening with Kevin and Mary Claire. It's all about family...
hugs to you...
Your table looks lovely, Jane! I love your wire acorn. I found one just like that only smaller at GW with my daughter. She called dibs on it! It holds a little tea light candle, but she could always fill it like you did yours. Your dinner sounds wonderful, too!
I was very surprised we had a small showing of kids this year for Halloween. I'm not fussy, I'll eat just about any candy as long as it's not some weird sweet/sour thing. :) If I can find the receipt, I'm thinking of returning the extra bags I bought on Saturday {thinking we were going to have a mob}.
What a lovely and relaxing looking dinner and tablescape Jane. I'll bet they loved everything. I enjoyed seeing it.
I've got to go with dark chocolate covered cherries. The liquid center only. Not the white filling. Before I lost weight I would eat an entire box in a day. Bad I know. Sigh....The yummy stuff I miss.
World Market is such a nice store. It's about an hour from us but I plan to go back for sure.
Happy week sweet friend. ~Melissa :)
I am one who loves your table too! Sooooo pretty! I am ready for cooler weather and it is just now getting here. It has been in the 80's and is going to be 29 Saturday mornin! CRAZY!!
Have a great week...
Lou Cinda
You set a beautiful table!
Gee the table look so lovely ! I'm sure it gave the ambience for a special dinner together.
Hi Jane, I was just over at BJ's and I think we left a comment at the same time, so I came over to see what you've been up to! Pretty table and the meal sounds so good!
Very pretty table, Jane! I'm glad you all had a lovely time!
We do not get any trick-or-treaters here, and didn't buy any candy - but oh my, do I ever love tootsie rolls. :)
Wishing you a lovely afternoon,
Zuzu
O, Blondie..I made my red stripe cloth after you made yours. You, my dear, were my inspiration. :)
So, I KNOW your cloth is there in your house somewhere...
What are you going to make next? It has to be very VERY simple for me to copy so keep that in mind!! :)))
Your table looks beautiful and your menu sounds devine..ummm
Looks pretty, Jane! I would need more salad though!
Very romantic with the candle light!
Just dropping back by to say thanks for following my new blog. It means so much to me! Your name has been entered in the giveaway.
Have a happy weekend!
