A FALL DINNER

We had son Kevin and his fiance Mary Clare over for dinner last Thursday night and I got to use those bargain dishes I found at Target. I thought I would do a quickie post to show you the simple but pretty table and join up with Marty and all the ladies for Table Top Tuesday.
It was a simple dinner that started with a field green salad. I didn't set out wine glasses because Mary Clare and I had been sipping glasses in the living room before dinner and we just brought them to the table. I do have 2 sets that I like to use in the winter, one a green shade that matches the dishes perfectly, and a gold set. I also wanted to mention because I am asked a lot...my dining table is from Pottery Barn going back about 20 years ago. Also the chairs. Very simple and rustic.
I didn't take any food pictures but we had chicken breasts done up in Panko bread crumbs and sauteed in butter, olive oil and garlic, Alfredo noodles, french green beans and corn {Kevin's favorite}. I made banana bread for dessert. We really had a nice time.

Halloween turned out to be a beautiful day here, in the 60's and just the right amount of sunshine. The trick or treaters came down the street like they were in a costume parade; we get a lot here in the city. Milo and Layla were going nuts. Of course I ate my fair share of Tootsie Rolls and felt really bad about it. What is your favorite candy? I have a ton left, but I like to freeze it and put it in the Christmas stockings. Not very festive but the kids don't care. I also like to give out Halloween pencils and creepy spider and skeleton rings. A big hit.

I hope every one of you had a great weekend and are welcoming November with open arms. I am putting my Halloween things away today but leaving out all the fall decorations. That hasn't stopped me from oohing and ahhing over all of the neat Christmas decorations in the magazines and catalogs. Have you seen the new Ballards? Burlap ribbon!! I think they have been spying on us!

Have a Happy Week everyone! :-)

Hi Jane,
What a beautiful and warm table you have set!
My favorite candy is snickers and then peanut butter cups.
We used to get a ton of trick or treaters in town, but now none at all!
I am going to check out Ballards! Your right, I bet they have been spying! And burlap is so cheap and they sell things for so much!
Hugs Friend,
And it was great talking to you on Saturday!

You set a nice table for your family dinner. It sounds like you had a great time.

We didn't get many trick-or-treaters here, maybe four groups. That's fine with me!

I'm ready to put Halloween away but it probably won't happen for me until the weekend.

These lovely soft earthy tones make for such a serene table, Jane! Your new dishes blended well with everything. I ♥ that color & your pretty table, too.

I spent the day tucking away witches & jack-o-lanterns but all the autumn colors are still up till T'day.

We didn't get one single T or T'r. :(
I'm going to donate the remaining candy to our church which takes it to the homeless shelter. They need the calories...I sure don't!!

Jane, your dinner looks warm and cozy. I like almond joys. I had all of five treaters and should freeze my candy like you:)))

Hey Blondie girl! Your table looks inviting and warm. I like the soft green of the plates and the contrast of it with the classic whites. I put Halloween away, as well. What a mess I create when I play! I am anxious for winter items to be displayed- guess it's because I put fall up so early. I am off the candy- need to get skinny... LOL But I love, love Almond Joys! And of course, my all time favorite chocolate is a local company called Esther Price. It is such rich, creamy milk chocolate. Turtles are my nemesis!!! How come all the regional candies have women's names? Fanny Mae, Esther Price, etc. I guess I should freeze the candy I have left over from Friday's night of Trick or Treating, like you did. Out of sight, out of mind....

Your table is so pretty. It's so inviting, and it's so nice to sit around a nice, warm table over good conversation, especially as we get into these cooler days.
My favorite candy is heath bars. Unfortunately, the kids didn't bring many of those home this year, lol.

The older I get the bigger my sweet tooth gets. I like all kinds of candy. I am pretty partial to Tootsie Rolls though.

Dinner looked divine. What does Mary Clare think of all your decorating? My daughter in law is pretty sarcastic about it but, my GRANDS adore that I decorate for each season. That's OK I do it for them (& Hubby & I because we like it). My favorite candy???? Peanut Butter Cups & Peanut M&M's. I was good this year & only had a mini pack with 5 M&M's in it. I NEED TO BE GOOD BECAUSE I'VE BEEN SOOOOOOOOOOO BAD! Hugs

This sounds like a very nice dinner, Janie. Glad oyu had a nice Halloween. I did not. My mom was admitted to the hospital last Sat afternoon, cause she almost collapsed while we were on a chili cook off on the bluff. I think I overworked her too much and her BP went down to 80/30. She is already looking 100% better so I think she will come home tomorrow....Christine

Jane, what are the white dishes that you are using...if you don't mind me asking? I have been looking at Mikasa's English Countryside...they look very similar. Ohhh...and before I forget, your olive green dinner napkins are sooo pretty...love those!

Wow...you had a busy halloween! We live so far out in the country that we never have trick-or-treaters...it's kind of sad! I have even stopped buying candy for halloween but I love tootsie rolls as well! wink! Hehe! Just wanted to thank you for coming by and leaving such a sweet note, my friend! You always brighten my day!

Dear Jane,
Your table looks beautiful and, how lovely to have your son and his fiance for dinner.
Hallowe'en isn't celebrated quite as much in the UK as it is over there, although it gets bigger and bigger every year.....funny that as I think we started it in Pagen times !! We celebrate Guy Fawkes night on November 5th......Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605 and it has been a holiday and celebration ever since, as he failed on his mission !!
I love November....actually, I love every month....they all have something to offer.
Enjoy November, Jane. XXXX

Hi Jane,

Thanks for visiting...I love your fall candlelit table! So warm and soft looking!

You asked about washing burlap..I put mine on delicate in my washing machine..but mine was just plain old burlap from the fabric store...if you have the finer grade burlap you might hand wash to be sure not to damage it. My burlap was less than $5.00 so I wasn't worried about damaging it! LOL..have a great fall season!

Congrats to your son and his wife to be. That's very exciting news! I hope they will be very, very happy together.

Hope you are having a good week. I'm still trying to catch up after my trip, and I'm tired from lack of sleep. But hopefully that will all iron itself out soon.

Funny you should ask Jane...My fave candy right now is Jujus. Weird huh? They are awful for my teeth, but I can't leave them alone right now. I don't care for too many candy bars, so I make it up in licorice and jujus.

I love your table and have admired it when I have caught glimpses of it before. Sometimes things just should NOT be painted. Like this and your wood floors, unless they were beat up pine plank floors like mine were. We do not want your dear hubby keeling over. Did you hear me??? Do not paint the floors and put hubs in the hospital!!! LOL!!!
I loved what you you said about enjoying your girls. Aren't they the best. I am glad to hear that you had a lovely evening with Kevin and Mary Claire. It's all about family...
hugs to you...

Your table looks lovely, Jane! I love your wire acorn. I found one just like that only smaller at GW with my daughter. She called dibs on it! It holds a little tea light candle, but she could always fill it like you did yours. Your dinner sounds wonderful, too!

I was very surprised we had a small showing of kids this year for Halloween. I'm not fussy, I'll eat just about any candy as long as it's not some weird sweet/sour thing. :) If I can find the receipt, I'm thinking of returning the extra bags I bought on Saturday {thinking we were going to have a mob}.

What a lovely and relaxing looking dinner and tablescape Jane. I'll bet they loved everything. I enjoyed seeing it.

I've got to go with dark chocolate covered cherries. The liquid center only. Not the white filling. Before I lost weight I would eat an entire box in a day. Bad I know. Sigh....The yummy stuff I miss.

World Market is such a nice store. It's about an hour from us but I plan to go back for sure.

Happy week sweet friend. ~Melissa :)
