BLUE MONDAY: DISHES & BEACH HOUSES

For Blue Monday I am offering more china that I have collected in blue and white. I hope this is not getting monotonous! I do think I am finished with this phase other than adding some missing pieces. All my blue and white dishes were found at antique shops here in Chicago and in Michigan, where we have the lake house. I am going to keep all of them there as soon as I have a "home" for them (I am looking for a pine table and hutch to match our harvest table in the Great Room.)
Above is a partial set I found at an antique store in Chicago just a few weeks ago. It just opened. It is very cool, has a lot of furniture that can be rehabbed, so I will probably visit often. I love to pick up old tables and chairs and play with them. The chair these pieces are sitting on is from this shop and it is already painted but I am going to varnish and distress it and maybe put it somewhere in my English Garden at the cottage. The dishes are Wedgwood. I have service for eight minus the salad plates. If I can't find them at Replacements.com. I might just have to use glass or crystal.
This piece of china is from Johann Haviland, Bavaria, Germany. I found this in Elkhart, Indiana. I bought the whole set for $60.00 minus the bowls. The dealer said they were from the 1950's. Someone later told me that pieces were given away as a promotional deal at gas stations when you filled your tank up! Whoa, that took away a little of my enthusiasm. But when I looked them up on Replacements. com., the bowls were $26.00 per piece, so I think they might have a little value. About 2 years after I bought them my mother in laws daughter saw them and said her mother's wedding china was another pattern from Johann Haviland, so they now have such sentimental value. Papa still keeps them in their china cabinet and I wish had known this before she died, she would have liked that little tie we shared.

I mentioned before that I had ordered some pictures for my newly painted blue master bedroom at the lake. I am trying to give the room an open, airy, beachy feel. When I saw this set in AllPosters.com (where I bought the bird pictures shown on Blue Monday two post ago), I just knew they were perfect. This blue picture is just so sweet. I am sorry about my flash. Promise I will read my camera instruction booklet!! :-)

This is a close up. The beach house makes me think of something in the Bahamas. I just get that feeling. The artist has another series of birds (and everybody should know by now that Blondie is infatuated with all things birdie!), so I may go back to have a look. When I go to AllPosters.com I have learned to narrow down my subject and also narrow it down to framed art as it is so reasonable compared to matting & framing yourself. I had these framed in black because I want to have some black and white photos pictures in the room just to break up all the pastel.

This is the pair. The yellow beach house is just as whimsical, but since it is not Yellow Monday I didn't zoom in close!
I think you all would like the things at Allposters.com. It is really worth a look. I am very fussy with the art work on my walls and would rather have nothing than put up something I didn't love. The Husband is very happy the walls are no longer bare!
Be sure to visit Smiling Sally for all imaginable things blue!!
xoxo
Janie

Love those prints! Very pretty and love the china too. Thanks for visiting my blog. To answer your questions about the computer armoire, I found it on Ebay. Here's the seller's link.http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/vivaart_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZ. I think he has a warehouse in California but the finish that we wanted was not available when we ordered so he had to order it directly from China. It took awhile to be delivered because it was tied up in customs. He is offering some now with free shipping. We paid shipping for ours but the price we paid for the item was lower. If I remember correctly, I think we paid around $150 for shipping...Christine

I love these, Janie. That blue china is SO pretty, and I really like the pictures you've been collecting for the lake house. Can't wait to see more!

Hope you had a great Valentine's Day and that you have a very Happy Blue Monday, my friend!

One can never have too many pieces of blue and white china. And if that pattern was indeed given away with fill-ups, that makes it all the more interesting!

I love things that have "stories" behind them.

Thanks for sharing!

Love all the blue and white china you found, I think this is perfect for a lake (or beach) house. Great prints, I'm like you, I will leave the walls bare until I find just the right thing. Which drives my husband nuts, as he is an artist's manager and picture framer. He says he's glad all of his clients aren't that picky or we'd starve lol. Great post, Kathy

I love allposters. I get a lot of artwork there, as well as great educational posters for my classroom.

My mother in law had a set of beautiful blue and white dishes that she got from the grocery store in the 70s, buy so many groceries and you could get a peice for .29 cents. They look like the set you have but these where made by Norleans, and very expense to replace also.
Thanks for sharing.

I love your dishes! Don't forget to try eBay. Save your search and just keep checking. They will pop up at better prices usually than Replacements. However, I do love Replacements!

You would enjoy the book on the First Ladies. Lots of tidbits not usually printed.

I agree with the first (Susan's) comment...I hever get tired of blue and white china! And your Haviland is beautiful...Who cares if it once was a giveaway? I've seen promotional items on the Antique Roadshow, so you never know! :-)

Your new pictures are totally cute. I, of course, love the little bicycle. We own three vintage bikes and it takes every ounce of restraint for me to not buy more (well, that and the lack of storage space. ;-)

I have the same set of china that you have setting on the chair...I started it 30 years ago when hubby and I got married..broke one the other day and thought I was going to cry... I'll be going to the website to try and get a replacement.. I was going to glue it..I hope you went out and got your copy of Country Sampler.. :-)

It's me again. :-)

In aswer to your question, I think you're right...Eddie Ross definitely started as an "east coast thing"...he was at Martha Stewart but did a lot of local "flea markety things." Then he was on Top Design on Bravo and now everyone's getting to know Eddie! I have to say, I do dig his style.

Have a good night! I'm heading to Colorado tomorrow night for a ski break...Ironically, I'll probably have more time to read blogs since I'll be away from work. :-)

Hi Jane, thank you for your visit on yesterday's post about my town. Also thanks for your kind comment as well.

How fun to have a lake house to decorate. I love the blue and white china. I would try to find my bowls anywhere besides Replacements LTD. because they overcharge in a big way.

If you need to find a rare piece, that is the place to go, but I would try E bay first. Good luck with your search.

Hugs...Jeanne

appear fervent about it. I’m developing a fresh blog plus I’m struggling to make it look good, as well as offer the best quality content. I have learned much at your
