HAPPY MAY

The good news is that Dr. B. called today with the biopsy results of the tumor and the margins around what he removed show no remaining cancer cells.  So it looks like he got it all.  Sigh.  Our prayers were answered and all of you helped.  Thank you for that love and support.  Our furry friends are undeniably one of the greatest gifts in life.  :)

We do have a lot planned...The Husband is going on a 5 day camping/hiking trip over Memorial Day weekend with sons Jeff and Kevin and about 8 other guys.  He is SO excited.  I will be a Hiking Widow, I simply don't know what I'll do with this time alone.  No one to cook for or clean up after.  Trying to sleep alone and hearing every moan and creak in this old house.  Anyone want to come and keep me company?

The last weekend of May we will be getting together with my blogger friend Cindy from Applestone Cottage, as well as her husband, in Door County, Wisconsin.  I'll give you more of an idea of what that's about in my next post.  It will be our sixth year getting together.  Now this is a true blogger friendship!

We have a trip to Asheville planned  for July and then son Jeff's wedding in mid August.  Also, my niece, Jaime, is getting married in Louisville in early August so it will be wonderful to go down and see my brother, his wife and family and just enjoy beautiful Kentucky.

That's all we're doing.  ;-)

Every Mother's Day we go on a three mile Breast Cancer Awareness walk.  Our group honors The Husband's first wife who died from breast cancer when she was just 31 years old.  Her sister puts this together and after the walk, hosts a brunch at her home.  I have to admit, sometimes I don't make the walk, asthma is a battle for me in the spring, the donation comes from the purchase of the T-shirt we all wear, the rest comes from the camaraderie and the love we hold in our hearts for this brave woman that won't be forgotten.

Off I go.  Again, thank you for your prayers and well wishes for my Milo.  Have a wonderful weekend.  Celebrate yourself, your mother, your mentor...or simply celebrate life!

Jane x

So happy to see that Milo is doing well and improving with each passing day . So funny about Layla's reaction to his new accessory. :) Sounds like you have a fabulous summer planned, with lots to do. I cherish having time alone as it doesn't happen often. Plus, you have your furry friends to keep you company, and lots of gardening to do. Sounds like my kinda grocery story! Have a wonderful day. I am so happy that Milo is doing so well and that they got all the cancer. The two weeks will be up before you know it.
The steak looks wonderful and I could eat that right now at 1:28 am. I can't sleep as I fell asleep in front of the TV and slept for 2 hours.
Soon your garden will be amazing with all your pretty flowers. We received some rain early Friday morning which was much welcomed. I purchase 15 bags of mulch and the gardener put it down on Friday and it looks so good. He really put a lot on hoping to keep the soil moist and not have to water as much.
That is a good idea about putting the herb in a pot in the ground. I love to cook with fresh herbs.
Sounds like you have a wonderful summer coming up. I'm so sorry that you won't be at the Lake House this summer.
Wishing you a most wonderful Mothers Day, dear friend. Your flowers are very pretty.
Hugs to Milo.
Mary

Before I forget let me say this, make plans for the time while your hubby is away hiking. My husband goes off camping and fishing once or twice a year. It's wonderful him. I love it for one day and then I'm lonely.

So glad Milo is on the mend. Bless his little heart and yours too. :)

That steak looks wonderful. You told how to make the salad but can you tell how you do the steak?

Oh Jane I've been wondering how Milo was doing and I'm so happy to hear the good news. What a relief. I feel our dogs really are like our children especially with our 'real' kids being older now. I'm wishing you a wonderful Mother's Day with your family. I know you'll be surrounded with lots of love and laughter, and you deserve it all.
hugs to you from Huntington Beach,

Hope Milo is all well soon, and happy the margins came back clean. When our Bo wore one of those he hated it, he kept looking at us like what the heck is this thing around my neck! I planned on being out in the garden today and it's raining and 53, yesterday hot. Sometimes this weather gets to me! Gosh you have a lot planned for the summer...

That is a nasty wound on Milo's leg, I hope it heals quickly and well! Still, I can't help but laugh when I see dogs in cones, they look like such little aliens, poor baby! Milo does have my sympathy even as I find his little conehead amusing. I am adding to the garden too, planning a little tweak here and there and a couple new beds. It sounds like you have a lot to look forward to this summer in spite of missing the lake house :>) Have a great weekend Jane!

Bless poor Milo! I do hope he recovers very soon, it must be so uncomfortable for him. Give him a big cuddle from me. Just think, before you know it you will be sitting at the Lake House again and savouring the beauty even more than you did before. Take care xx

So glad your Milo is on the mend. Pretty flowers and that steak plate looks amazing... It's pouring rain here today. My garden needs it though.

Lots of goodness in this post Jane, from Milo on the road to recovery, to all the things you have planned for the summer (you WILL have a good one, in spite of no lake house), to that delicious steak recipe.

Everyone is different, but I get the feeling you're a fairly social person, so when your hubby goes away make sure you have some things planned. They don't all need to involve other people, but having a couple of projects to work on will be good.

I always feel so bad for dogs when they have to wear the cone but I'm glad Milo is doing well. So funny about Layla's reaction too. You are such a good cook, Jane - your salad with the steak looks so delicious. I think we should have a big sleepover at your house over Memorial Day weekend! Wouldn't that be fun! And you could make us all some flat iron steak! Happy Mother's Day!

Poor dear Conehead! I had to laugh at what Layla must have thought when she saw it while skidding to a stop! I'm glad the docs think he's going to be fine!

A 5 day wknd. alone? Honey, I'd take it in a heartbeat--and creaks be darned! No cooking...much reading..the remote to myself....quiet sleep...quiet house! mmmm! Run a fan in your bedroom at night! No creaks shall be heard!

Is flat iron steak like flank steak? Ed wants a bone-in rib eye or Porterhouse--medium rare. (No "fancy stuff" on it! His words, by the way!) Your dish is yummy sounding and looking---as usual. I think I'd love shopping at your grocery with you! A bar?? Okay! :)

The Husband did good with the roses, didn't he! Youall are going to have a very busy fun summer! Getting away is good! ( I guess. How would I know? ;) )

So glad Milo is on the mend! That's funny how his sister didn't know what to think at first. :) Gosh, that steak looks GOOD!!! I love carnations too and you can't beat how long they last. I'm so sorry you can't use the lake house this summer. That's such a bummer, but at least you know it'll be waiting for you next year. :)

Just went through a similar process with Truman. He had bladder stones, a long incision on his belly and the cone for two solid weeks. He hated it but was a trooper about it. I love the flowers. I am so jealous that you and Cindy have been meeting up with each other. She probably doesn't remember me, but I am a big admirer of her blog. I used to be Lakewood Manor, but when we moved, it didn't make much sense to keep the name. Summer is going to be fun and jam packed for us but we love that! Hope you find a way to spend all that lovely lonely time!

It was good to see Milo out and about in the yard (even if he does have to wear a cone). I am glad he is doing so well.

Bless his little heart! I know that Milo will be happy to get rid of that cone! YEAH for getting rid of the cancer! You are the best Mom to Milo:) It is sad that you will miss the Lake this Summer but it will be all fresh and new next year! Enjoy your day dear friend, HUGS!

WOW! 31 is so young! Breast cancer scares me to death. I've lost my aunt & grandmother to it & my aunt was in her early 40's. I've had a few scares but thankfully all is ok. I religiously get my checkups. I'm so happy that Milo is home. I know how relieved you must be. I feel so bad for him in that cone but happy to hear they got all of the cancer. Have a great day!

I'm so excited that Milo is doing well! You're experiencing what I do daily as I walk my boy. He has a pattern he likes to follow and check all the pee mail that's happened since the last visit. He's gotten stubborn as he's aged and sometimes we "disagree" on where we're going to go. :)

Love all your flowers! I think it's so wonderful to have them in your home. I love the ambiance and the fragrance!
