WINTER BUSYNESS

So how did I get going on this tangent?  Oh, yeah, day after day of running here and there.  I had a doctor's appointment on Thursday and although The Husband was supposed to be working at home, he decided to tag along.  My doctor's office is way out in the southwest suburbs and there are a lot of neat stores and restaurants so we enjoyed lunch together after.  My appointment went relatively well; the enlarged lymph node had shrunk to almost nothing and she said my lungs sounded clearer than she had ever heard.  I was super happy about that.  She did order some tests for me which are scheduled for Monday.  Once I know more about this whole deal I will bring you up to date on it.

Okay, I think I've overwhelmed you with cooking.  I just get such a kick out of passing on cool things to make.  Then again, I'm just that weirdo that dances around the kitchen with my broom when I get a good browned butter.

So today it was very quiet.  I was home alone mostly except for my sons popping in for a bit.  I had planned to spend the afternoon lolling around looking at seed catalogs and a few gardening catalogs I picked up at the grocery store.  I ordered my veggie seeds which should be here any day.  Thinking of these things, that we will be gardening in just two short months, makes me want to do the Happy Dance!

Hoping all of you are off to a good week.  Keep the faith that we've been through the worst of this winter. :)

XO,
Jane

I do so love catching up with you!! I bought Lucy one of those 'minky' beds and she loves it! Sometimes I wish they made a 'people' size one because I would LOVE to cuddle up in it!
That was so sweet of you to cook meals for your young Tom! Nothing says 'love' like a homecooked meal.
Hope all turns out well for you healthwise. A good report is an awesome thing!! Love and prayers from Texas that you get one!

My goodness, this post was loaded with energy! I love it! You have been a very busy girl, wow really cooking up a storm too!

Looks like you had a blast at the restaurant with all the girls & that cute baby!

I don't know about you but I am so done with snow! UGH!

Barbara F. said...

your meals all sound so wonderful. I am sure Matt appreciated them. We are at 56 inches of snow this year, way over our average of 25, but not as bad as the 1994-1995 season when we had 75! xo

How dear of you to send such lovely meals home with Tom! Your story about his Mom broke my heart. He and Abby are such a cute couple.

Can't wait to see your newly styled mantle with your finds from Home Goods. I love that place.

Your weather. Unbelievable.
I bet Milo and Layla are anxious for Spring as well.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers with the upcoming tests! That's good news about the lymph node.

Only 28 days, 18 hours and 47 minutes until Spring 2014! Yes, I have been counting since the day after my birthday!

You just made me hungry with all your great food Jane!
And Layla looks so cute in her new bed.
Your daughter is so cute, she looks like both you and Al.
We got about 5 inches on Monday and today it was 43 degrees! Ha..it was so nice for a change.
But more snow and cold coming for Thursday..of course.
Do you know that during that snowstorm of 78-79, I was pregnant with my son and my ex and I drove to Chicago in it. Crazy huh? It took us about 12 hours to get there, normally about 5. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency right downtown. It was something I will never forget.
Well I should head to bed.
And let me know about your tests, although it sounds good right now.
Big Hugs,
Cindy

I have a sick feeling we haven't seen the worst of winter yet this year - it's supposed to really warm up here for the next 2 weeks - but last year it came back with a vengeance :(

I love that you made extra meals for your girls boyfriend. ♥

I am easily and quickly exhausted by people--crowds, parties, big dinners and get-togethers--so I understand. Enjoy your quiet time.

Your son's home theatre sounds like great fun. I'm a "movie person" and would love something like that.

Spring is on the way. Enjoy the garden-planning. :)

Hang in there, winter's got less than 30 days now! We had 55° yesterday, a thunderstorm in the middle of the night, and sunny skies today - you can see the grass!!

Love the glimpse into your son's home - that's exactly how my husband rolled for so many years while single & saving almost every penny (not anymore, lol!).

Family matters - so happy for Abby & her bf - he's a lucky guy having you cook for him. Your recipes all look great.

Glad your appt went well - keep us posted.

Sounds like you had a good week with opportunities to get out of the house for a bit, Jane. I have been getting a bit stir crazy myself and now I have a cold this week. I hope you are getting some of the little warm up like we are in Ohio. It should be almost 60 tomorrow!

Love to visit here, Jane... I don't like to cook, but love to watch you : ) How sweet of you to make things for Tom.
On your son's shuffle board, I have always wanted one of those in the rec room, Did he make it himself?? They are very expensive. I have looked at many. And good for him for being able to make the home of his dreams @ such a young age.
Where I live in Mi. we are now at 130 in. of snow.... a crazy yr. for sure & getting just a little sick of it. But we are getting to our lake home almost every weekend, where it is quiet & beautiful with the snow....
Spring is coming... : )

It's been a busy time for sure dear - just hope all is well with your health and that you are getting enough rest between all the fun/work times! Do take care of Blondie girl!

Loved hearing about J's home and getting a sneak peek! Sounds awesome - you won't have to trek to a theatre if you get invited to his cinema!

Stay warm - your snow amount for this season is huge - and here some people griped and stayed home with just a few inches - you would have laughed! Of course ice on top of the snow did make it treacherous for one day - nobody has snow tires or chains around here.

Love to you both - take care. Wish I was closer and could shop Homegoods with you and Emily - love looking around there and haven't been all winter! Perhaps the coming of spring will get me motivated for some shopping soon!

I'm glad your health is on to a brighter path Jane, it's always best to keep things in check and really, the only way to enjoy life is to have your body feel as great as your mind does! Your cooking up a storm all right, and I bet everyone is happy. That story about Tom's mother was heart-breaking, I'm glad your there to somehow make up some of that motherly care he needs. One thing for sure, I'm not jealous with you living in Chicago right now, we're enjoying 65 F weather here in the south, and I can't wait to see the greens start sprouting again. I can also totally understand 'People Hang-over'!

podso said...

Wow your posts are full of all kinds of things. And I hear you are yet to have more snow. Amazing. It's 70 here and we had a huge thunderstorm in the night. A week ago we had a huge snow storm. I know we will be cold again here before it's over. I agree that you need a break from people every so often even if you are a "people person." Also I think you are fantastic to do that cooking for your daughter's boyfriend. What a blessing for him and his housemates!

Fingers crossed for a good report and you all look like you had a great time too at the resturant.

Btw, how do you get your blog title above your pictures in your header? I can't seem to figure this out, also I looked for an email address but didn't seem to find one on your blog, should have checked your profile, dah! LOL

Your talk and pictures about cooking are making me hungry! I'm actually going to start on dinner here soon because it's soup - and I like soup to simmer for a few hours to really bring out the flavors. It's a new recipe - Stuffed Pepper Soup. Someone had posted it on FB. If it turns out good, I'll have to put it on my blog. What a sweetheart you are to make food for Abby's BF. Aw, darn, I wish Jeff weren't so private so we could see his house! It sounds fabulous.

Your food looks amazing! Since Christmas I'm having trouble being very inspired to cook. However, I'm continuing to gain weight which is completely unfair. Your house is looking so pretty from the snippets I've seen here and there. Do you have a home tour tab? I don't...we both need to do that.

I thought of you last week-end when I heard it was snowing like crazy. Glad you got out and about. If I'm not watching the littles I will not leave the house. So much easier to stay home. I am finding this winter that I am glad I have to go out. It helps with the cabin fever for sure.
Keep on having fun.

You and I are a like, we both love being in our kitchens. When I was single I would spend the whole day in the kitchen on Sundays. Open a bottle of wine turn on some classical music and I was in heaven. I find cooking a very creative outlet and stress reducers. Can you believe the snow we've had this year...ugh! With it being warmer and sunny today we "picked" huge ice blocks out of our gutters, and our side walk is floated from all the snow melting. I also like to start my seeds and bought a couple of years back a portable greenhouse, pop it up and bring it down. Let me know what area's you would thrift in and I'll send you my favs. You have been to the thrift store on 127th and cal sag road, right? Let me know!

How often do you hear that NY has had as much snow as Chicago? I'm sorry to say it's true this year.

Isn't it funny how different HomeGoods are unlike each other? Some have great furniture, some don't. I've noticed it depends on the location.

You've been cooking up a storm, and I'm sure your daughter's boyfriend appreciated what you did. That's very sad about his mother. It sounds like she was well loved. I suppose that's all any of us can hope for.
