I started to distress it a bit but the gold gilt underneath started crumbling off so I left it as is. Now...where to put it. Well, I have been having second thoughts about a set of art prints I hung in the living room this past spring. I really and truly love them, but the more I look at them, the more I think they just don't look "right" in this room. So, the room is very neutral with just a splash of pastels in the sofa, so that's why I painted the mirror gray, I thought it would blend with some of the blues. I'd like to hang it where the prints are. We'll see. I paid a lot for the prints so I can't just store them away until "whenever". Hopefully I'll have it hanging somewhere for you to see soon. Oh, and if you ever have to stand or sit in front of a mirror doing something like this, remember, mirrors don't lie. I was sitting cross legged in front of it, talking with The Husband and it was like talking to myself. I was really traumatized!
We have to interrupt this post to pass on some safety measures when following along with Blondie's Cooking Sessions. Did I mention I bought a fantastic knife sharpener at Target last weekend? Hmmmm...usually a trip to Target becomes blog fodder. Well, I was happily preparing this marinade and began to work on the fresh cilantro. Rather than chop it, you just want to run your knife through it in forward motions. And I always warn my girls, keep your fingertips tucked under, that way the knife will glide against your knuckles if it gets too close to your hand. Well, the index finger wasn't tucked very well, and the knife sheared off half my finger nail and a bit underneath (I'm trying to word this mildly), which was good, it was at an angle. My finger wasn't bent under enough and I was using a bit more pressure than I needed since I wasn't used to the knife being sharpened. I have thanked God a thousand times that my finger was bent because it would have taken off whatever it came in contact with. I am super big on knife safety, lots of experience and a class at Sur la Table on it, and I have cautioned my kids so much that up until recently, Emily wouldn't use a chef's knife. ANYWAY...gosh, I do ramble, This is just a paper towel and some surgical tape on it, I ran to Walgreen's this morning and bought fingertip bandaids. It hurts, but more than anything I am mad at myself. But this will teach me to slow down and never feel too confident in a situation where you can hurt yourself.
I have a huge bowl filled with Honeycrisp apples, and a spice candle burning. The Husband is watching back to back football games all day. It's 62 degrees out and I'm wearing my first sweatshirt of the season (on which I have already spilled Ben & Jerry's chocolate ice cream, my treat from Walgreen's when I picked up the bandaids...I deserve it, don't I?). The apples are begging me to make a pie and the tarts I talked about last week. I have puff pastry and a fresh bag of King Arthur flour. But my boo boo hurts and you really ought to see the unique typing method I'm using! I picked up this magazine last week thinking it would be nice to look through in a few weeks, ear mark a few ideas or what have you. I ended up curling up with it last night and read it cover to cover. Fall flows into Thanksgiving into Christmas at such a fast pace that I never accomplish what I want to. I say, "Next year", and sometimes just, "Forget it"! So I marked a few pages of simple projects and ideas that I can do any time. Now, you know me, I'm not a craft person, but sometimes I like to think that I'll get the hang of it (or the patience!) someday. So, my first holiday decoration project is easy. You will need:
3 clear Mason jars
1 bag of short peppermint sticks
Red ribbon
Place peppermint sticks in jar. Tie ribbon on. Arrange attractively somewhere.
I can't wait to get started! Don't you wish my recipes were this short?!
XO,
Jane

I did get an apple pie baked... yum!... Autumn is here in Centerville and it's so nice having cooler weather finally... I want it to linger long into Indian Summer... have a beautiful week... xoxo Julie Marie
LOVE your hair cut, Jane, but then I'm a fan of short hair. And I just have one thing to say about mirrors. I like to go to Talbots, and marvel at how fabulous I look. They have "circus mirrors" that I swear take off 20 lbs, and give you a nice rosy glow. It's good for the morale. take care of that boo boo, those hurt the worst!
I think your hair looks perfect! Talking about a scary sight in the mirror-have you ever facetimed? The first time, I about cried-could that be my neck? Goodness. I experimented with the silly thing at all different angles, but it was what it was. Oh My!
Your hair looks great, Jane! I had mine trimmed a couple of weeks ago and had her take off a true ruler's inch. All the nasty ends and while it doesn't sound like a lot, it seems like it was a lot. Ooooh, knife cuts are nasty and do hurt. I hope you heal up quick.
Evening Jane, loving the haircut but you would look cute in any style.....Ooch, sorry about the finger, bet that hurt, hope it heals quick......Happy Autumn, Francine.
Blondie, I know your finger hurts..keep an eye on it. Your hair looks wonderful though...that should make you feel a bit better. Good job on your mirror. I have a mirror hanging on our fireplace wall , with our clock in front of it. I just couldn't make myself get rid of it. It goes on a dresser in one of the bedrooms. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
Ouchie!! Cutting your fingers hurts so much! Makes you realize how much you use your fingers because they just seem to stay sore for days.
The chicken recipe looks wonderful. I could eat chicken every day but my husband won't go along with it.
Your hair is gorgeous!
That's the second post I've seen telling us about the crafts inside. I'm going to have to pick it up at Walmart.
Your hair looks wondeful, I really like it.
Love the mirror and the paint color also, you did a great job on it!
I love your hair, TOO!!! Back when I was younger I had really LONG hair that I had cut off to 3 inches all over in 2002. It was a traumatic year and I decided I didn't need anything weighing me down! I often wish I had chic hair and a classic style. But short is the only way I like mine now. Easy peasy! Once cut SHORT - it's hard to get it long again. So good for you in taking it in stages!
Hi jane, your hair looks nice. The chick marinade sounds great and easy too I eat a lot of chicken.and very little red meat.
Hope your finger heals quickly,
Your hair looks amazing! Very fresh!
I'm so sorry you cut your finger but i love they way you told us, you are so dang cute, and what beautiful hair, I have hair envy, I truly do, thats a beautiful mirror, you'll find a spot for the prints, its good to change things up anyway, take care of your finger, those tarts and pies sound amazing!
Hi Jane,
I wish I had your beautiful hair, mine is fine and straight and requires lots of products to make it look good...a real pain!
Ouch on the finger, I know that hurts.
Love your mirror transformation too.
Hugs
Sissie
So sorry you cut your finger, ouchies!
We have very similar hair - my beauty weapon is using Moroccan Oil - the real dealie, not imitation - highly recommend it, perfect to smoothe out fly-aways, great for protection for heat appliances and excellent for ends - to keep long one must protect from split ends!
I cut my hair often too - but it just keeps coming back, haha.
Your hair looks wonderful Jane ....... I have had long straight hair all of my life and, I usually have to have a psychiatrist standing by when I have my hair cut !!!! haha, although I am getting much better in my old age.... it really does look better when it's had a really good cut.
.... and watch those fingers .... they are pretty important !! XXXX
Oh my goodness, your hair... GORGEOUS! BEFORE AND AFTER:) I can't grow long hair, wish I could! Anywho, don't be slicing those fingers girlie! You need them! Enjoy your week, I am enjoying the change of Seasons! HUGS!
Your chicken recipe sounds delish! Sorry you cut your finger. I cut the top of my hand a few years ago trying to pry the cap loose on a jar of olive oil. It had a metal cap, and for the life of me, the seal would not break. So what do I do, grab a freakin' knife and start poking at it. It slipped, and since I was alone at the time, I had to drive myself to the ER. UGH!!! Then the ER staff thought it was a defensive wound, and that I had been in a fight, or abused in some way! Lord!!!
Anywho love your hair length! Looks great! Have a great week!
Oh seems I'm always cutting that finger on my right hand, So hard to cook with a big bandaid. It's such a pain. I think I do better with dull knives. Sorry for yours. The mirror looks really good. You did well, Can you give those hangings you don't like as a gift to someone? Maybe you could lean the mirror somewhere.
Your hair looks great!
Hi Jane you are so funny. Love the haircut and the mirror, hate the knife owie....yikes....I have cut myself so many times it is not fun! Loving the fall season though. Haven't worn a sweatshirt though...still warm here but fall weather is coming!
Yay,
Debbie
Love your hair! So sorry about your finger. You did a great job on the mirror.
Take care.
Judy
Your hair looks so pretty and HEALTHY! I think it is very chic! So sorry you cut yourself. Hope it heals fast too. XO
Your hair looks so gorgeous! I wish some one could come over and professionally blow out my hair everyday. Don't you?
Sorry about your finger! I hope it heals quickly! I remember cutting my finger very badly once on Easter and I had to drink a lot of mimosa's to help with the pain. lol!
I bought that same Christmas magazine. It is a good one!
Your hair looks beautiful! I am sorry about your finger. I hope it heals quickly!
Your hair turned out beautiful! I didn't realize that it was so long. I used to have really long hair...it touched my hips. Before I had my son, I got a lot of it cut off and it was so traumatic for me. It's long now, but not nearly that long. Ugh, when I read about your finger I cringed...ouch! Hope you have a good week. xo
Your hair looks really pretty. I burn or cut myself or have another kind of disaster almost every time that I cook LOL. I'm glad you're boo boo wasn't worse. That chicken sounds delicious, lots of good flavors. Your mason jar craft sounds really cute too. Nothing wrong with keeping it simple.
Your hair looks great! That's awesome that it grows so long. Hope your finger is all better.
Jane,
Your haircut looks outstanding...can't believe your hubs didn't notice. Great makeover on the mirror.
Blessings,
Linda
Beautiful hair, Jane! That chicken dish sounds delish...I am always on the lookout for new ways to fix chicken.
Have a wonderful week...
Your hair is gorgeous! Your finger, probably not so much, lol. Makes me hurt just to read about it. Hope you heal quickly! That marinade sounds so good, definitely have to try it. Ugh, Christmas...don't want to read about it or even think about it until at least after Thanksgiving!
Your hair looks so good, Jane! Isn't it amazing how a snip here and there can make such a difference? It's probably easier to care for, too! I think I'm going to try your chicken recipe tonight for dinner...sounds delicious! Sorry you cut your finger! It's been awhile since I've gotten a nasty knife cut...knock on wood! :)
I wish I had your hair Jane!
It's simply gorgeous and I love the new length.
Oh your poor finger too..ouch, double ouch.
Dan has to go over so much safety in his classes and they have to pass safety tests. But without fail, some kids still manages to cut himself pretty bad on one of the machines for cutting each school year. Dan is one of the few shop teachers that still has all his fingers. I am not kidding!
Anyhoo, your recipes look so yummy! You are a talented cook.
Have a great Monday my dear,
Cindy
I've never had enough hair to cut off 7" at one time! Do you donate what goes on the floor? It's a beautiful first day of fall here, and I, too, may be wearing a sweatshirt. I shuddered seeing your bandaged finger. Every time I use a knife I fear cutting myself as my knife habits aren't always real good.
Just wanted to say your hair looks beautiful! Be careful with those knives!
cutting the hair-- very pretty~!
:: I need to cut about 5 inches myself::
cutting the finger- OUCHIE~!
Your hair looks healthier, a very nice cut and length. I had mine styled to a length just above the shoulder two years ago and was amazed at how freeing it felt, and how many compliments I got saying I looked younger. I don't know about THAT, but I didn't regret it. I tend to be lazy about going to the salon to get it styled and have let it grow out again, but I did not regret the decision.
Jane, you have beautiful hair!! Seven inches is a lot to get cut off. My hubby doesn't notice either when I get my hair cut or change my style. :) I like the new color of your mirror frame. It turned out really pretty. I'm in a mood right now where I'm changing things up in every room. I'm constantly asking my hubby "How attached are you to this chair, curtain, picture, etc. etc." Sometimes he comes home from work and things look drastically different from when he left in the morning. LOL! Once again, your recipe sounds delicious! Honey and lime are so good together. Sounds much better than my shake and bake pork chops I have planned for tonight. :) I'm sorry you cut your finger though. That can hurt so much. You never realize how much you use your fingers until you injure one. Hope you have a great week!
Love the length and the color! I am going to someone new on Thursday for a haircut. Yikes!
I think your hair looks gorgeous. Mine has never been that thick and I can't let it get quite that long and still get it to look good.
Your poor finger! Yikes! So sorry, I hope it's not too painful.
I love the mirror and it looks so much better in the silvery color you repainted it in. I can't wait to see how it looks on the wall:>)
Oh your hair is pretty....all I want is to keep mine....but that is in question. So I say straight or curly...long or short.....I think you look good and chic!!
Jane, you have such beautiful hair! How lucky you are!
Fingers and knives don't get along. At least not in my house. I feel your pain.
Great job on the mirror!
First of all, you have such pretty hair! I find that when I cut mine, which is baby fine, it looks so much better. Healthier, everything. I'm so glad your finger is relatively okay!!
xo
Claudia
Sorry about the boo boo...I am sure that hurt. I don't sharpen my knives for that very reason. I just let them get dull!
You call that a haircut? It still looks so very, very long to short-haired me! It really does look pretty, but I have had mine short for so long that I just can't imagine how hot I would be with hair down my back these days.
The chicken looks yummy...with the weather a little cooler I am more in a mood to cook. I made turkey chili yesterday, a sure sign of fall. I have apples too from two orchards on the way home from French Lick. I'm trying so hard to just eat them as apples and not bake something gooey and yummy.
Your hair looks great Janie! Accidents happen a la finger ~ things could have come out worse that they did. You have been a busy bee ~ take care.
So sorry to hear about your finger, I am glad you are so cautious with knives though! Your hair looks great! I am also loving this fall weather and honey crisp apples! Fall is the best season ever. :)
Ouch! Jane! I hate when that happens. That's why all my knives are so dull, it's weird how paranoid I am about using sharp ones haha. Love that haircut too. So your hair is got how many personalities? Hmm, I think you have me beat. I just have those darn frizzies that happen when I don't blow dry. Funny but I swear it gotten worse with menopause what's that about? I also love your paint job on your mirror, I just did the same thing with a Goodwill purchase and I loaned it out for a wedding. The bride is hanging escort cards on it. Take care of your finger :(
xo
Leslie
Haircuts are the best, wish I could have mine styled everyday. I definitely did not get the hair styling genes...is the wand easy to use? Hope your finger is healing!
~Trisha
You have beautiful hair, Jane, and I bet it feels so good with those inches cut off. Love how you spruced up that beautiful mirror.
Be careful with those knives!!
Mary Alice
Jane,
Love the hair cut. Looks like a great length. Hope your knife cut is not too bad and healing nicely. Ouch!!!
Kris
Love your new hair cut!! Hope you're finger is doing better!! You always look so beautiful!!
Hugs,
Jody
Your hair is beautiful! If mine was as long it would be like Sybil too! That's why I keep it in a chin length bob and still have to blow it out and flat iron! I love the mirror! I'm a big fan of them and have at least one in each room and have quite a few in storage!
The hair looks great. I let mine grow longer when I hit menopause or peri menopause or when it started getting waves ( like FINGER WAVES in the old movies! ) and the hairdresser suggested letting it grow long to weight the waves...
This chicken recipes looks as good as the last one! And I have honey and a good DULL KNIFE!! :)
Wow! You've got a lot of gorgeous hair! I've always wished I could grow my hair long enough to tie back in a classy pony, but my face is too small, and all that hair overpowers it. Anyway, your new cut looks devine!
Take care of that finger. Ouch!!
I perused your blog and I'm in love with the old stained glass your hubby has in his work space. Fabulous!
You have the most gorgeous hair, and I love your new hair cut. I bought new high end super sharp knives and found out after three finger cuts to stop visiting while cooking and pay strict attention when I'm chopping and slicing. I've learned to love those knives, but, boy, it was a painful lesson! I agree, gotta keep those pinkies folded under. I hope you heal quickly.
Your hair is beautiful, long or shorter it is so pretty...I love love that mirror and as I was looking and reading I was thinking, she should paint that white and there it was...it turned out amazing...sorry about the finger...Phyllis
Love the haircut. Mine seems to always be in a pony tail.
I love your neat haircut. So simple and attractive.
I just cut the heck out of my finger too. I was making a wreath and scissors slipped.
Have a great week...Balisha
I am a menace in the kitchen and always burning or cutting myself. Yes, I am a danger to myself and others. I entered my ATM pin number on the microwave yesterday. Lucky I did not start a fire..
I like the shorter do. Probably more manageable too.
I just looked at that magazine in the store. It's about that time when I start buying my holiday magazines.
Your mirror looks great. I am sure you will find the perfect spot for it.
You have the prettiest hair, and I think you have enough for about three people!!!
You think you're traumatized....I just got my hair cut into a pixie! VERY short.
THis recipe looks too dangerous for me, LOL! J/K....I hope your finger is all better!!!
Honey crisp apples!!!! YAY It's that time of the year....they're always my favorite harbinger of autumn.
xo,
RJ
Hi Jane,
Your fresh cut looks great! Love the mirror! Ouch! Your cut looks bad! Take care:)
Jennifer
Oooh ouch! :( :(
That chicken recipe sounds exactly like something I would love though! I saved it to add to my meals in October.
And you have gorgeous hair! It looks so thick. You're very blessed.
Also, I love your comment on my Warrior Dash Race. Thank you for being a true friend. <3 I appreciate you.
Your hair looks so great! I really like the new length. And that mirror is beautiful!
I desperately need to cut my hair too!!! It takes a village made me lol because I can gut out a house - move furniture - transform it - and I can't use a blowdryer lmho - do I go to a salon every single week of my life???
( only my hairdresser knows for sure)
Love your new " do "
AND LOVE THAT MIRROR TRANSFORMATION!!!
XOXO
The mirror turned out great! II cut myself all the time & I rarely cook! Your hair is so pretty. I'm trying to get mine to grow & it just doesn't seem to get past a certain point.
I'm so glad you didn't cut yourself any worse, Jane! I'm pretty good at the fingers tucked under, but I will never master doing that and chopping things fast the way my son does -- I would be totally fingerless!
Aside from injury, your chicken dish looks delish!
