A CHICAGO BUNGALOW TOUR (EMILY'S NEW HOME)

First of all, I want to thank everyone that went to have a look at my guest post at Must Love Junk, Susan's Saturday Night Feature:  The Blogger Behind The Blog.  If you missed it and feel that there is anything else you need know about me (!!), you can visit that post Here

Now, I have been promising you a little tour of daughter Emily's first home and today I have that for you.  We had a really great time doing this together, she running from room to room adjusting pillows and picture frames, and me trying to work with the wonky light that day.  But we did it.  For the sake of anyone new, Emily is an interior designer and works for a large Chicago based furniture company as both a designer and salesperson.  Just 26 years old and a newlywed, she and Mike bought this home in May, and on both a budget and an eye for what works, she transformed this little Chicago bungalow into a very chic and relaxed home.

And by the way, she made this wreath...mine didn't turn out nearly this well! lol!
To the right of the foyer is the living room, which is done in different tones of taupe, cream and gray.  These colors flow throughout the house along with a touch of blue.  She found these club chairs at Overstock.  See the stripes near the glass block window?
The sofa and love seat are from the shop she works at.  All the tables, lamps and accessories are from Homegoods, the ottoman from Overstock and the area rug from Ballard's.  See their pup, Rusty, curled up on the loveseat?  What a life!
Emily and Mike love to turn in early, watch some television, read and work on their IPads, so she paid particular attention to the master bedroom.  The queen size bed is from her shop, nightstands and lamps from Target, bed linens from Macy's.  She also has a beautiful area rug from Ballard's here that you can't see.
And I wanted to give you a peek of the area rug she scored at Joss & Main.  All of her rugs are textured and I just love that.  There is one more bedroom but it's empty.  It will be the nursery for those future babies!  Yes!
This is the dining nook.  The table and chairs were given to them by the previous owners.  She jazzed things up with two parsons chairs from Ballard's, as well as the wall prints.  She found the ladder when we were out antiquing with Kris last week...I wanted one, too!  Wahhhhh!

I hope you've enjoyed this tour.  I think Emily did very well mixing quality pieces, such as the sofa, loveseat and bed, with budget minded tables and accessories.  Her rugs aren't cheap but with so many of us preferring hardwood floors, it's nice to have something beautiful and durable under our feet.

I have a busy week planned that involves cleaning up, clearing out, weeding and killing weeds, and amending the soil in my backyard beds. I plan on tackling this with a vengeance! I'm transplanting bulbs and adding new.  I've promised myself that if I work hard today, then maybe tomorrow I will treat myself and pick up a few new plants!   I think we have enough time before the first frost, and we are so lucky here in the Midwest, the temps are in the low 70's, so it's a perfect time to be outdoors..  I have really been feeling guilty for neglecting this backyard and fawning over my gardens at the lake.  So I'm putting my heart, soul and tiny little muscles into making a dent in this big yard.  I'll take some before, during and afters, and pray I have the strength to type a post after! lol!  See all of you soon! :)  Oh...and hope you had a  Happy Labor Day!

XO,
Jane

Emily seems to be your 'Mini Me!' I love it!! Amber has one in Kailey.

How wonderful to already have the guest room ready and future nursery all waiting! Your Emily ROCKS!

It is still WAY to hot to work in my yard! The Bermuda grass is about to take over one 'flower' bed....it's mostly Asian Jasmine and now GRASS!!!

Love everything about it, Jane! Your girl did a wonderful job of pulling everything together. Guess she got it from her momma! ;)

That house is just beautiful. Not many kids start off with a new home and can decorate it so beautifully. Good for them! Now they can enjoy it and not have to worry about trying to "finish it up". I love it. They are just a darling couple, too.

I really think it is cute that she wanted the aqua mixer to match the back splash.

Enjoy your gardening- xo Diana

Jane, it's fun to the newlyweds cozy new home. Emily had done a terrific job. Love that big bird cage!
Good luck with the garden. Still too hot here to get out to work, but believe me there is a lot to do. I've neglected it since spring other than to water frequently. Just too hot for some things to thrive, so they just melt away never to be seen again. Enjoy your plant time!

Thanks to you and sweet Emily for sharing the lovely home. What a grand job she did - it's so pretty and has colors I love. The stripes are awesome, and to be painting them while cooking a roast for the-laws at the same takes guts!!!!

Happy week in the garden - it's 100F and terribly humid here so the garden suffers on while I stay in the a/c!!

Hugs - Mary

Isn't it fun observing a daughter's sense of style evolve as she creates her own space? I love how our kids find their own voice as Emily has done with her bungalow. Good for her having the patience to do stripes!

I love that painted dresser too.
It's been beautiful with the weather and I have so much to do outside as well.
We actually have some trees starting to turn, they have been so stressed from the heat and lack of rain.

First, I just went over and read all about you! I felt as if I already knew you and yet I learned so many things! You did a great job, just the right amount of information.

As for Emily's home. No fair! My first home didn't look anything like this! She has excellent taste and beautiful things. I love the textured rug (and the pup). Everything seems to have perfect placement and of course those colors are just divine! She obviously paid attention to her mother's good taste.

What a lovely first home! Emily has great taste, and I really appreciate the way she mixed lower priced finds with more expensive ones. Sounds like she likes Ballard too!

I loved this tour of Emily's house! She has done a fantastic job of decorating it "perfectly" so quickly - I'm in awe! Guess it helped that the place was move-in ready. I could go to each picture you posted and say, "I love that!" The striped walls, the open frames, the tufted headboard, the ladder in the dining space, that gorgeous yellow dresser, the hardwood floors, the furniture...great job, Emily! :-)

Jane, they have a lovely home - so much thought went into decorating it.

And what an adorable picture of them!

I am so happy for you all. Truly.

Big hugs.

Your daughters home is wonderful, love that tufted headboard. My gardens have been sorely neglected too. I haven't felt great this summer. I have tons of work to do as well weeding transplanting and on and on. I'll be thinking of you and knowing I'm not alone.

Jane! I have been by to visit a couple times! I can't visit you, and leave with few words!

Jay was in town until yesterday morning. I dropped him at the airport and then it was back to work!

Emily has created a lovely home! Every detail is lovestruck! She is so talented!

I also held onto every word and image of your little blog biography! (I LOVED being in that Mary Tyler Moore, go to the big city and be an independent career girl generation!) I was on my second interview with Continental when Mr D and I got engaged. He was in the military, so I too, let it go!

The story of of you met Al, and how you became his bride and an instant Mom...Better than the book Love Story, my friend!
Blessings to all of the "B's"!
