This is a well worn description of most July days (and I probably used the same post title last year and the year before), but they are here. Big time. Temps in the 90's, humidity and no breeze whatsoever. I was thinking today about how much we talk about the weather. Most of my posts start out that way and I think it's because I know it's going out to all of you throughout the country that may be having the same (or not). I have nothing to complain about during this heat wave...I go from an air conditioned home (okay, a little bit of an antiquated system), to an air conditioned car, to an air conditioned building. Yet it's like second nature to want to vent about the heat, the rain, the snow, the cold. It's so rare that it's just "perfect". I wonder if we can ever just accept the highs and lows as the norm? As I get older, I want to hold tighter to each passing day, they can run out all too soon. I don't want to wish summer away because fall is so much cooler, I want to embrace each day and later think, "Yeah, we made it through the dreadful summer of '13 with a lot lemonade and trips to the beach!". I'm getting Pollyann-ish again...but you bet I can get crabby when it's like this. Today I came home mid afternoon and The Husband had turned off the air conditioning and had the doors and windows open. Hello? It's 94 degrees outside! Needless to say, he may not get dinner tonight.
These are some of my hosta's this year, I don't know if I caught them near the end of their bloom time or if it's just the heat, but they are drooping a bit. I have a variety of them at the lake that have white flowers. The scent is intoxicating. I cut them and put them in vases and they perfume the air in a big way. I don't know the name of the variety, most of my plants come from divisions from friends and family.
Tomorrow is a lazy day and then Milo has a vet appointment on Thursday. He had been wheezing a lot in his sleep and I was worried. It has pretty much abated but I thought I needed to run it by the vet. After that we are going to the lake, for how long, I don't know. I don't think The Husband can go on any of the boats with his incision healing so maybe we will take some day trips to some of the quaint little towns Michigan is known for, especially along the lake. And I have plenty of work in my garden. I've loaded up a few great books into my Nook library and I plan to REALLY get some reading done instead of this one or two hours every night when I'm too tired to hold my eyes open! I will be back soon! :)
XO,
Jane

Wow, Jane. You have a lot going on at your house. Waiting for tests to come back can be hard.
Fondly,
Glenda
Thanks for all the updates Jane... glad hubby is home and doing well... I am also happy to hear Milo is better too... maybe that's why this time of year is called the dog days of Summer... Tessy gets so hot and tired, and she got stung again on Sunday... we are at or near 100 degrees every day, then BIG thunderstorms with lightning come up each night... love your positive attitude... next time I need to tell someone to go to hell, I will remember to smile as I am saying it!... and yay for you losing 8 lbs!... hope your results all come back ok tomorrow... much love, xoxo Julie Marie
Hope you enjoy your time at the lake and your hubby heals fast there :-)
Oh Jane, how I understand your weather complaints! It's hot & humid here too and I'm always complaining about the weather. The post I wrote tonight, in fact, starts off about the weather! Your comment about your husband not getting dinner made me laugh out loud!
Glad to hear he is home now. Sending good mojo your way with the test results. Hang in there.
Hi Sweet Jane. Your flowers are amazing this year. You've got the touch for sure. About those dog days, it was 102 here for several days last week. Thank goodness it has cooled off a little now and it's raining! We desperately need the rain.
You and your husband need to be well and enjoy what's left of summer. :)
But I love you Pollyanna.....I am like that. I want to be happy and for everyone else to be happy and treat each other nicely...that is the way it should be. I can see where you'd be scared about your husband...doesn't running a fever mean infection?? Sit and sip iced teas and lemonades together. Blone girl, you are so right about making the most of everyday...even if it's dog days hot. Life is very short and should be enjoyed. I wish all of you a great week.xoxo,Susie
I think it is great if you can block out the worries...I'm not good at that at all. Congrats on the 8 pounds! You know that I know the changes you make to do that...slow and steady, that is the way to do it and I don't believe in giving up things entirely (like M&M's). I hope your test results are okay...extra prayers.
Keep it easy Jane, hope that it truly is just a lymphadenitis, glad your doc checked up on it further. Get well dear and relax :-)
Hi Jane, Enjoy your time at the lake, it might be cooler then the city. Your flowers are pretty. I hope hubby gets to feeling better. They are sure grouchy at times. Ssh! we have all made a wrong turn when we have other things on our minds. Hooray 8 lbs, Great!! You can't give up everything and a few won't hurt. I will keep you and your hubby in my prayers. Have a cool day. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend.
Jane, sad to hear the husband is dealing with health issues again. I wish him well. Enjoy the lakeside leisure. You deserve it! Congrats on the healthy eating and seeing positive results. I need to get with a program. I'm good for a bit, drop some pounds, then those pounds seem to find me again. '-)
Hi Jane,
Glad to hear that your husband is home and hope you enjoy your lake home visit. Your daylillies are so pretty!
Hi Jane,
Glad to hear that your husband is home and hope you enjoy your lake home visit. Your daylillies are so pretty!
No sleep, the hot temps, a husband in the hospital......is it any wonder that you aren't feelng well. But, I know that you have to keep going regardless. Hopefully you will feel better and maybe some antibiotics will do the trick. After 1/2 of my grandchildren came down with streph I found a huge swollen gland on my neck. It has gone away after treatment. I hope that your HUbby is getting better. Take time at the cottage just to unwind and relax.
Glad your hubbie is home too! Nothing worse than sitting around a hospital...LOL..and I'm a nurse! Your daylilies are so pretty! I just love lillies! Your tomatoe salad looks yummy...We have had a break in the heat and it's only in the 80's here. Normally it's 100's ..so we are enjoying this summer...hope you have a relaxing rest of your week!
Miss Bloomers
Your flowers are gorgeous! Glad to hear your hubby is home and doing better. Congrats on the 8 lbs.! I'm sure your tests will come back fine. Try not to worry too much. :) Hope you can relax at the lake. I know what you mean about the heat. It's so hot in Texas right now. Thankfully we've gotten some rain. We needed it so badly.
Hot and sticky here in Philly too Jane. Have fun at the lake, I hope there's a nice breeze there:@)
We are cooking here in Michigan, our street is experiencing a brownout of sorts and half of the electricity in our house isn't working, but I am grateful that the power to the window a/c is still working! It will hopefully keep things bearable in the house today. I am glad your husband is on the mend and congragtulations on the weight loss! I'll be praying that those tests come back and everythign is alright for you.
Glad your hubby is home now and doing good, Jane! We are having that same weather here. The only bit of breeze here seems to be up at the pool. Where I plan on going this morning for just a little bit {before all the kids show up}.
My hydrangeas are looking droopy and I have to go out every day and water all my plants. I just bought a Knock Out Rose {pink} at Kmart yesterday. It was on clearance, so part of me thought it was a smart buy and the other part of me is thinking "what am I doing planting something like a rose in this heat!". We'll see how it does. I'll water it every day like I did when I put my hydrangeas in last year and a week later we got a heat wave with no rain for weeks.
SO happy that you have your Hubby home! I will continue to pray for healing and getting him back to his old busy self:) Have a blessed day dear friend and try to stay cool! HUGS!
Sending you cool beach breezes from California
hope you all feel better soon
xo

Keeping you in my thoughts as you wait for your results ~ Of course the best news is your man is back home with you :) So happy for that good news! Enjoy the lake house, you both deserve to relaxation ~ Glad you updated your "Journal" ~ Judi
Glad to hear that your husband is home and doing better. You go girl on your healthy eating plan and weight loss!
Hi Jane, I've missed you! I've been so bad about keeping up with emails. Sorry about that. I've been going through some medical stuff myself and haven't felt well, so I'm kind of behind on things. I hope to send you a private email later today. Anyhoo, I'm sorry that Al had some complications & was in the hospital longer than expected. I am keeping him in my prayers for healing. I am so proud of you for keeping up with the healthy eating! We've been eating very healthy here, too. I made a big pot of gazpacho yesterday - all veggies - and sooo refreshing and delicious on these too-hot days. I'm making a caprese salad today. I hope the test results from the dr. come back ok. xoxo
So glad the hubs is home! Although, I don't know how long he'd be feeling good after turning off the A/C! HA! I love my Nook sooo much. I try to remember to always have it with me.
Glad your husband is home. Love the look of that salad.
I love your garden, Janie. So sorry about Al, I hope he is completely cured of whatever he had. Enjoy the rest of the summer..Christine
So glad he's back home with you. My garden is starting to look weary.
Brenda
Lovely journal blog, have a nice summer , best egard from Belgium
Jane, I always find you cheerful and positive. I know how you must be such a comfort to your husband in his recovery. Sick husbands are tough and usually do not tolerate surgery as well as we do. I caught up on your posts as blogging has been spotty for me and I have tomato envy. All the tomatoes here have drowned from the rain every day.xo, olive
Hi Jane,
Good news about your husband coming home.I hope and pray that your tests come back OK. We don't need "our Jane" down with a bug. Have a wonderful, restful time at the lake.
Take care,
Balisha
My plants are really drooping in this heat - I just went out to check on them and I think I'd better water tomorrow morning.
Glad your husband is doing better and a trip to the lake sounds like heaven to me! We've had 3 weeks, non-stop of this heat and humidity. I complain, too, but mostly because I get frustrated being stuck in the house. But then there's Don, who's living in a house without A/C - so I make myself shut up!
xo
Claudia
Oh Jane, the same is true here with more hot weather than I can remember in all the years of coming to Maine. Today is a little better thanks to a bit of breeze which is much appreciated since we have no AC. Enjoy time at the lake.
I was happy to hear your husband was home, but sorry to hear about your tests...I'm sure all is well though. I'm a half glass full girl myself.
Praying for good results...in the mean time, hope you and your husband enjoy your time at the lake.
So hot here today too Jane!
97 degrees was our high, and humid as heck, of course you know that.
Well you know I spent the day at the pool, and now I am sunburned and sore.
Congrats on the 8 lbs. , woohoo!
So hoping Alan is feeling back to his old self soon.
Love your healthy eating plan, fill me in if you get a chance.
Here's to good news on the Dr. results too.
You haven't had a tick on you have you? They can make your glands swollen etc,
Hugs girlfriend,
Cindy
I have a post going up next week about weather too lol - it's so extreme - here in Montreal we're dying - absolutely dying - so it's not just the States........
Keep that glass half full Jane - maybe with some nice red wine?
Your husband's on the mend :)
Big clammy hugs,
XOXO
I always think we talk about weather so much because, it's something we all can relate to. In spite of the weather, your daylilies and hosta look great. Congratulations on losing 8 lbs! I've lost a few pounds, but it's a slow process at my age. Think I need to start exercising..UGH!
Glad your husband's home and recuperating nicely. Hope he's turned on the A/C again. :)
Hi Janie! It's so hot here too and I agree with you. The days just go by so fast and I hate that. I remember as a little girl and time was so slow! But heck, I don't want to be a little girl again. Sending a prayer your hubby's way and pray he'll be up and attim soon!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Sorry to hear that your hubby was in the hospital, Jane! I hope that he is feeling better, and is on the mend! And same for Milo! Super hot and muggy here, too. What would we do if we couldn't complain about the weather! Have fun at the lake. Do you ever get to South Haven? They have the neatest shops there!!
I'm sorry to read that your husband is having a hard time after the surgery. I hope that by now all is well. You are far and away better off with your positive attitude - I like it about you! I'm sure it spreads to your family and is helpful to your husband. I saw, the other night, just how hot it is in Chicago - I wish I could blow you over some of our Pacific breeze.
Jane dear, catching up and sorry I wasn't here sooner to send get well wishes to dear A. Glad to know the surgery went well, sorry he had to stay in a bit longer than expected but is now home again.
His recuperation time will be somewhat hard for both of you, but your positive attitude, and his behaving properly (haha!) will make all well again soon hopefully.
Yes, weather is always a subject we seem to wax and wane over constantly. I'm wishing for the perfect place to live but doubt I'll ever find it - the entire world seems to be cooking right now - except the southern hemisphere - even England is broiling so I'm not even thinking of going home!
Blessings to A - tell hime Bob and I are holding him close to our hearts, wishing him a total recovery, and wonderful times ahead when he gets his energy back. You two must come back to NC.......or we'll try to get to Chicago!
Love and hugs - stay cool!
Mary XX
It has been so hot here as well! Definitely the dog days of summer. I hope your hubby continues to recover quickly so you guys can get back to doing the things you love. Your healthy meal looks yummy!
Jane, I love your positive attitude! There's enough negative in the world! Hope your hubby is feeling his best soon (and not driving you crazy-ha! :)
Susan
Always glad to get an update on you and what's going on. So glad hubs is home now...
Your flowers look great to me...I don't have any blooming other than the little knockout roses. the bush is totally LOADED but by next week, they will all be gone...then bloom again next month.
Sending good vibes about your test results.....
xoxo
It's Thursday night, and I hope you are safely at your lakehouse. Your gardens all look wonderful, Jane. I hope your hubby is feeling well, and is able to relax while you guys are in Michigan. Congrats on losing eight pounds!! Good for you!! Have fun while you are away from home. Enjoy the sunshine, and great weather!
Love to you.
xo
Glad your hubby is home. Hoping and praying your hubby will be feeling better very soon. Summer weather can be yucky everywhere I think. Your Caprese salad looks good. Love your extras you added. I will have to try them. Happy weekend!
Congrats on your weight loss! That's a wonderful accomplishment. Hope everyone is feeling perfect soon. Enjoy the weekend.
I hope your husband gets well soon. It's not fun being sick in the summer. Your flowers look great and congrats on losing 8 lbs!
Glad to hear that your hubby is home, and healing..I always think we heal faster at home anyways.
If we didn't talk about the weather what would we start conversations with?
Jen
I'm so glad that The Hubs is back at home. I hope he continues to do better and better.
I loved what you said about holding on to days tighter and tighter and not wishing them away for something else . LOVE THAT!!!
Sometimes staying positive takes effort...but it sure is worth it :)
many hugs coming your way...
So glad to hear that your husband is back home and doing better. I was surprised to hear how hot it is there! It has been hot at my home too, but the rain seems to keep the temps from getting too high for too long. I'm on vacation now and the rain has followed us, I'm afraid! Fingers crossed that it will be more sunny than rainy the rest of the week.
How I love to hear you ramble on, Jane. Glad to hear that your DH is out of the hospital, time at the lake will do you both the world of good.
Well done on dropping those pounds. I'm trying to do the same, 4lbs in 3 weeks so far but it's hard when my husband is such a good chef!!
Have a wonderful week.
Hi Janie! Oh, I hope it's cooled down a bit for you. We got a huge rain storm last night and it was glorious! Thanks for popping in to see me.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I hope your hubbie continues to recover. So glad y'all are home! Stay cool, and congrats on your healthy eating. With all these b'day parties (yesterday was the last one) I'm home with a sugar headache. I know better....I feel so crappy!
xo,
RJ
