THE LATEST ON THE LIVING ROOM AND A BEDROOM REDO

Isn't this a beauty?  I wish I could say it were mine.  It's an early bridal shower present for Emily from us.  The color is Pistachio.  She is so daring.  I guess it's the designer in her.  And I'm not just showing this beauty off, I wanted to tell you that The Husband found it at a website called Everything Kitchens and it was marked $60.00 below the SALE price at Macys!!  You have to check out this website, especially if you are looking for one of the bad boys.  I can't live without mine.

Now, some randomness, as if you haven't had enough already.  The painter for the living room and kitchen has been hired and hopefully he can start next week.  I am going to go with a creamy white shade.  If any of you have used a similar color, let me know the name and brand.  Paint chips can be so deceiving, I really want it to be soft, if you know what I mean.  The hideous wallpaper on the soffit in the kitchen will come down and I think then my vintage bowls and cake stands I keep on top of my cabinets will pop.  I am beyond excited!

And more news...I have been emailing back and forth with a sweet blogger over at Comfy House, her name is Melanie and she lives out in the Western suburbs of Chicago.  And we are going to meet {smile}.  We are looking at the first week or so of March.  If you haven't met her, check out her blog.  She just totally redid her bathroom and she has awesome before and after pictures.

And finally, I have joined the ranks of those using Pinterest.  I haven't invested a lot of time in it yet.  I'm trying to watermark my pictures at Picmonkey and although I'm following all the instructions and saving them correctly, the watermark doesn't show up when I download them for a post.  Anyone know anything about that?  Gee, I have a lot of questions in this post!  And by the way, my policy is that you can use any of my photos anytime you want, I'd be flattered.  Just link back to me, okay?

Now, I'm going to hit Publish and then chew my nails a bit more until I have to pick up my little Layla.  Milo will probably be all over her.  He was crying when he saw me leave with her, not because he was going to miss her, just because he's the one who always gets the rides in the car!  She's going to be sore...should I keep them apart?  Oh no, more questions!!  See you soon! :)

I'm joining Debra at Common Ground for Be inspired Friday and Simple And Sweet Friday over at Rooted In Thyme.

I am looking at the clock knowing that you are home now with Layla ~ hope she did ok. She will more than likely sleep it off tonight and be a little slower tomorrow but have that spring back in her step. Don't even talk to me about Pinterest ~ I love it and cannot tell you how many hours I have spent there. Happy Thursday Janie. xo

Lots of news from you today Jane... I emailed you about Layla... please email me back when she is home... I'm glad you didn't leave her overnight at the vet too... she will do much better at home... and I would just let she and Milo be together... their instincts will tell them what to do... she will be just fine... your bed looks so pretty... don't know what to tell you about lumpy comforters... that's why I like quilts... Emily's mixer is so beautiful!... now I want one, I just use my old hand held mixer... how fun you are going to meet a fellow blogger who lives close by... wish we lived closer to each other... sending love to you all, xoxo Julie Marie

Oh- Your poor baby girl! I would probably try to be extra protective of her for a while with her stitches.

Loving the green mixer. I love my own-but it is white and chrome and it is a workhorse!

What fun that you are meeting a friend! I will check her blog out in a bit.

I am getting smarter as I get older- I always shop now when I know I have someone home to help do carry in and unloading. It is my least favorite thing to do!

I don't use duvet covers anymore because I, like you, can't stand that lumpy, wrinkly look on my own bed.

Hope you have a great night. The big storm is supposed to hit us tonight- xo Diana

Hi Jane,
Our little Barbie did fine after her surgery. She was sore for about 3 days, then back at it. Since our other dogs are large (one is 96#), we kept her away from them.

Like your comforter. I don't do well with duvet covers.

Love the mixer. Great color.
Have a great weekend!

Hi Jane, Your bedroom looks so comfy and I think I would just lounge there. It has been snowing all day and cold. I have been home visiting my friends and doing a few other things. They pushed my driveway tonight because if they waited until it stopped it would be to hard to push. I love Emily's mixer. Have fun meeting your friend from blogland. Have a wonderful date stay warm and safe. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend.

Jane, hope Layla does fine. I'm glad you are picking her up for the night. I wouldn't want to leave my pet after surgery with no one there all night. She'll be a lot happier snuggled up next to you tonight.

Hi Jane, I cannot imagine that kind of cold weather nor bringing that many bags in the house. I shop here and there a little bit at a time. I think maybe your watermark is somehow not being saved in the final photo. I do not use PicMonkey but I watermark everything. I do use photoscape. I recently started pinning and it can be addictive but it is fun. I have been pinned incorrectly and attributed to another blogger despite my watermark. That is annoying. All these social media sites bring their own problems. I joined tumblr yesterday-another thing to learn. I am positively pistachio green with envy over your girl's mixer. xo, olive

I hope your sweet little Laya is doing ok, I know just what you mean about worrying when they are at the vet! Glad you are able to bring her home early! Your daughter will love her mixer! I have a cobalt blue Kitchen Aide that my mom bought me many years ago, and I just love it! Still works like it's brand new1 Keep warm!!

I wouldn't want to leave my baby in the cage either. You are right...what's the point?

Your bedding is great. It would bug me if the duvet got lumpy. That's the perfectionist in me but I will tell you that they are often lumpy in magazines and they look pretty.

Hope it warms up there. All that grocery shopping in the snow sounds like torture to me.

Let's see if I can remember everything I wanted to comment on, lol...first of all, you are so sweet for mentioning me in your blog post. I am so flattered! I can't wait to meet you in person. :-)

I hope Layla is doing well tonight. Did they give you one of those cones to put over her head so she doesn't chew at her stitches? I don't blame you for not leaving her overnight, especially if she wasn't being monitored there. She will be so much more comfortable and at ease at home.

I love the color of that KitchenAid mixer! I saw a dark pink one at Target and loved it, but it sure wouldn't match my kitchen! I have the classic red one and it's about 25 years old. It's my favorite kitchen appliance. Couldn't do without it; use it all the time. I checked out the kitchen web site you posted and oh my goodness, their prices are great! I am really liking the red cover with the pocket on the side. They have some really cool attachments, too. Bookmarked the site - will probably order some things later.

I have avoided duvets because of the problem you mentioned - the lumpiness. I just buy regular comforters now. If you ever do that, just don't buy a cheap one, as they get lumpy when you wash them. Go with a high quality one that holds its shape. xoxo

Hi Jane, We are in that transitional time of the year again where it's not quite winter all the time and we see glimpses of Spring. Although the past few weeks it's been more like winter! I think my girls came home from the vet after their procedure later that day. I just kept them quiet and a blanket to lie on until they felt like moving around. Woke up to an icey morning...looks like winter is still here! ~Hugs, Patti

Hope Layla is home resting comfortable. We have the same duvet cover...you mentioned that when I posted about mine :-). Does your comforter have ties on it so you can attach it to the duvet? Inside the duvet there are loops to attach comforter to. The Company Store sells comforters that have ties on them.

Well, your first night with Layla home is over and hopefully she did well. Such a sweetie...and Milo too!
I love your bedroom...so comfy looking. I've had the same problem with duvets. We get on either side and shake it to death. I don't use one anymore...went to a down alternative that is stitched. I don't like it as well as the down, but it's easier for us.
Have a nice weekend...Balisha

Hope your little Layla did okay, and I'm sure she was ever so happy to be home with "Mom" taking care of her.

The duvet is beautiful. I made mine (the twin bed ones and the master bedroom king) & added ties in the corners on the duvet and on the comforter, too. You can do that on a ready-made one as well. It really does help to keep things where they are supposed to be.

Can't wait to see all your painting projects. Good luck with all of it.

We had some of that "freaky" weather here in the desert on Wednesday. It rained like crazy and then the rain turned icey and actually snowed in parts of Phoenix -- yep, you heard that right!

What a little doll, Layla is, Jane! I'm sure that you'll be the best mommy ever in taking care of her after you bring her home. :) Hope she's doing ok right now. Probably sleeping? Kudos to you for having her fixed. :)

I used Benjamin Moore "Ivory Tusk" throughout my house. It's a nice creamy white. If I were to repaint, I would go one shade lighter though.

I don't use those type of comforters anymore just for that lumpy reason. lol Now it's a light down comforter with a duvet cover over it. No lumps or uneven spots at all.

I'm so excited about your painting adventure! I can hardly wait to see what it all looks like!

Hi Jane..

Oh how I hope your little Layla is ding well.. It's 2:30 here in Washington State so you should be heading out to get her soon... It's probably going to be worse for the "mom" that for the pup. It's my understanding that they don't feel pain the way we do. She'll probably have one of those cute 'lil cones on. When my 'lil Ruby had one she wouldn't move. She just stood there and looked pitiful.

What a deal on the mixer... My daughter had a nearly new one that she gave to me when her boss bought her a new pink one for Christmas several years ago. It was a WIN-WIN! :-)

Now, about the paint... I LOVE Annie Sloan Old White....it's the creamiest, yummiest white ever. I could send you a color swatch to have matched if you want me to...

Yep, I know about the comforter thing... I gave up because it drove me crazy too. I have a down blanket that is flatter that worked better, but sure wouldn't work for cold nights.

Ok dear girlie.......Have fun with your little pup... She's going to be much happier at home, I'm sure.

Huggies!

Love the mixer and I wish I had one! It really is hard to pick a white. When we painted our guest room we had to have the formula adjusted so that the white would be soft and soothing to chase away the Oregon rainy gray, so I get what you are trying to achieve.

Poor Layla...sure hope she heals quickly.
I don't use duvets anymore...rather just have a comforter, quilt or spread..right now, I am looking for a nice black tailored king bed skirt for my bed.
What an awesome looking mixer. I don't have a stand up....just my heavy duty hand mixer.
Have a good Sunday.

I hope your little girl is doing well. That is one heck of a charge for an overnighter with no one there.
I sometimes force myself to go the grocery store when I really don't want to because I know it will be so nice the next day when I don't have to go. I guess that could apply to everything I procrastinate about lol.
Thanks for the links to the blog and the kitchen site. I'll go have a look.

Hi! I just discovered your blog in my Debbiedoo's daily post. It's so sweet. Hope your little Layla did well. Isn't it amazing how attached we get to our pets? I have a Goldendoodle who's had surgery on his knee THREE times since Nov. He's a rescue who is now worth $5000! Lol. To answer 2 of your questions, years ago Martha Stewart (I know, I know!) suggested turning duvet inside out & sewing a ribbon to each corner and center along top & bottom edges. Then do the same to your comforter so that you can tie your comforter to the inside of the duvet. Let me know if it works! We'll be sure to let Martha know if it doesn't! As for the watermark, I was reading Beween Naps on the Porch regarding her stolen posts. She gives the name of the site she uses to watermark her photos. Good Luck!

Hi Jane- I hope your little girl is okay. I feel the same way you do about overnights at the Vets. I worry so when my pets are in cages and away from us. I love your bedroom - so lovely! I don't have a duvet, but I had one when I was staying in Hartford last year and it made me crazy with the lumps! I don't have any advice on that one. I like Melanie very much and I'm so glad you two will get together soon.

I left you a response re your comment on today's post. It's on the blog.

LOL Jane that happens to me all the time.....I'll stay at home on the pretty day only to be out running tons of errands during torrential rainstorms and cold weather!

(((hugs))) for Layla. She'll be herself in no time!

My favorite creamy white is Benjamin Moore's Mayonnaise. I have painted almost every room in the house this creamy white color. If you want it a shade darker, almost like a Devonshire cream, try Mannequin Cream.

I'm not sure I could leave my dog overnight at the vet either...actually I'm pretty sure I couldn't! Love the green Kitchen Aid. My daughter has one that's more of a kelly green. Mine is boring black. :o) Loved catching up with you. Happy Sunday Jane!

if you don't have to, I would not leave her at the vets either. Hope she will be alright, and you too, ha ha.
We pet-moms are a very protective lot!
Had to laught about the Kitchen Aid mixer. Mine was given to me by hubby over 30 years ago....and it is pistchio green ( I wanted a white one, oh well)
By the way, speaking of white.
I have used "shell white" by Glidden for over 30 years. The people that owned our house before us, had painted the whole house that color. I still LOVE it!
I used a few different whites, but keep coming back to that.
Have a wonderful week.
Hugs,
Evi

I adore the pistachio! I got my lavender Kitchenaid and love it and last year bought a pink one for my daughter and an aqua one for our St. GEorge home. My niece coveted the aqua one so much I had to get her one! Fun fun!

I love the IKEA down alternative for inside duvets. It feels like down but doesn't lump as much!

I adore Pinterest! I just wish I could make everything I see on it.

I hope all went well for Layla and you.

I feel that what about duvet covers too. I am looking for an old fashion bedspread for our queen bed. I know beds vary in height, but ours isn't that tall and I should be able to find one that will cover the side rails, eliminating the need for a skirt.

I often think that being old enough to remember what we could easily purchase is a curse. Sizes in bedding, clothing, you name it, don't seem to be truly standardized any longer.

I am Charlene (without a last name) on Pinterest. I will look for you there. :-)

I'm sitting here reading about your trip to the grocery store and shivering. Brrr.. Guess Layla has recovered from her surgery by now. I'm one of the late comers to Pinterest too. I started saving photos, but don't often get the chance to go back and look at them. As for watermarking...I'm with you. If someone would want to use my photos..I'm thrilled and just ask that they link back, too.

Glad you're keeping busy dear - I would be if I could get rid of this darned head cold! Meanwhile I'm readying for a guest bathroom reno/freshen up next week with help of a prof. painter as the ceiling has to be scraped and smoothed and wallpaper removed - nothing huge but necessary as it's been stuck in the 'Tuscan mode' since I did Italy some years back!

I haven't tried the watermark thing yet - should I? I really don't mind people using my pics if they at least request and don't just steal 'em!

Have a fun time with the painting projects - the upheaval will be worth it - but it's always lousy while in progress, right?

Love and hugs - Mary (X from Bob)

Hi Janie- I know your concern about her surgery. We just brought home a rescued corgi-jack russell mix. He had to be neutered before he could come home with us on Wednesday. Poor fellow had no pain meds and I know those sutures itched and bothered him. It's been a week since the procedure last Monday and he is doing much better- but dang- I wouldn't want to be missing those parts and have issues down there! He didn't have the "cone of shame" to stop him from licking, but using a wound care product does help. Hope she is doing well. Take care and have fun with your new friend!

It's funny, I just don't worry about the lumpiness. I got hooked on feather beds after staying in a bed and breakfast, so our bed is always a little lumpy or lopsided. We use a quilt as a bedspread and keep our down comforter folded at the foot. That might be one way to handle your lumpiness.
