This looks like a picture from It's A Wonderful Life but it is really just my street taken in the early morning the other day. Today most of this has melted as we are nearing 50 degrees by tomorrow. Then it is going to slip back down and Old Man Winter will be blowing back in.
I have been enjoying the peacefulness of the past few days, I haven't really gone anywhere since Christmas Day. Nope, not even to hit one sale. I managed to clean out a lot of my Christmas bins before decorating and threw out or gave away some of the things that were falling apart or that we had outgrown. I feared shopping the sales would make me buy more Christmas things just for the great prices. That happens to me a lot. So...I have been trying to figure out what to do with myself. Is anyone else starting to feel cabin fever?
As I ramble on, I wonder what 2011 holds for me. I haven't made any serious resolutions, I don't like setting myself up for failure. I do have some goals, the usual and silly like lose weight and save more money, read and write in my journal more. But I have some aspirations. I want this to be the year I travel to Europe. It really just takes some serious planning and I'm good at planning our trips {I have a penchant for finding the nicest places to stay}. I am thinking that I'd like to visit England. See both London and the countryside. It seems like a safe place to start since we speak no foreign languages. And for a trip closer to home, I haven't seen much of the Southwest. I'd love to see New Mexico and some beautiful sunsets. Just dreaming here.
We have no big plans for New Years Eve. We have a bottle of champagne left over from Christmas Day brunch and I have a stockpile of cheese and sausages and sweets. I think I need a little whirlwind of activity today so I feel like hunkering down tomorrow night to watch the ball drop. Does anyone have any big plans?
Well, that's all I have to post about today. I think I will get dressed and head on out to see what the world has in store for me. I hope all of you have had a good week and I wish you a wonderful New Year!

Wishing you a most beautiful New year Janie... you would love a trip to New Mexico... that is where my daddy grew up and I spent every summer in Santa Fe with my grandparents and great~grandparents... ooh, I hope you get to go there, you will love it so!... Your photo of the snow is pretty, but I am anxiously awaiting Spring! (even though we had a major blizzard last night!)... enjoy your bottle of Champagne on New Year's Eve... wishing you a happy one!... xoxo Julie Marie
Hello Janie.....I grew up in snow like your pic....I, too, remember hunkering down and just hibernating....
Hope you travel out Southwest....if you ever do...let me know....perhaps I can help in some little way.
Have a wonderful New Year sweet friend.
Hugs,
Jo
Hello Jane,
How beautiful your street looks! I'm getting cabin fever, too, so I'm about to take the little ones sledding.
Happy New Year and all the best with 2011 travel plans!
- Susan
What a wonderful picture.
As for New Year's Eve...
We stay home. Too many crazies out and about for my liking. Although I may meet a friend for a drink to celebrate (early in the evening) the plan is to stay home, watch movies, and play games. Just have simple fun.
Resolutions? Yup, I do 'em.
Hi Janie,
I'm in hibernation myself...I agree totally with those sales!!! I LOVE your ambition to GO to EUROPE. WONDERFUL IDEA, and yes, the British Isles is the BEST. In my opinion, Ireland, Scotland, then England. The more you stay OUT of the cities, the MORE you will see..HEHE, we learned that the hard way! And my VERY,VERY,VERY favorite place to stay is the B&Bs. They are WONDERFUL and the people are SO NICE!!! Keep us posted on your plans... We want the details... Love your picture of "Your WONDERFUL LIFE Street". It's worth framing!
Happy New Year to you,
Hugs, Donna
Hi Jane, your snow is perfect and I wish we had some more. We are raking leaves today and preparing for house guests which limits my blogging but people before my ventures. We speak no Italian but loved our trip there a few years ago and we managed without the language skills. Have a Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Janie, wishing you & your family Health, Wealth & Happiness from Normandy.
"Reveillon" or NYE is always a quiet affair for us we don't even stay up to see the New Year in!
Although we always drink a Champagne toast to the health of all our friends and family before retiring for the night.
If you do come over to Europe we'd love to see you on this side of the English Channel, (we speak English here, so no worries).
See you in 2011.
Maggie.
Happy New Year to you and yours, Jane - we're having a quiet dinner at home with the kids - boring, but a much needed respite from the hectic holiday gatherings...and cooking!...and cleaning!....
Oh what beautiful scenery! I just got home from Hobby Lobby, Christmas was 66%! I bought lots of paper that can used anytime... not just at Christmas:) That's all!
Enjoy your day my friend and this wonderful time of year! Stay warm! HUGS!
Hi Jane Sweetie...
Oh what a beautiful photo of your street. It does look like a photo from a movie. It is just delightful, from a distance of out here in the desert. No snow here thank goodness. We had rain all day yesterday and through the night. It is windy and cool today. I miss the warmth of the desert sun. I will never get tired of the warmth.
If you travel Southwest and you make it to Phoenix, please let me know. I would love to meet you in person.
Now, Europe would be so wonderful. If you go, that means I get to go through your photos, yes Europe sweetie by all means. I can't wait.
We have no plans for New Years Eve either. We usually stay in where it is safe. To many guns get shot off here in the valley on New Years Eve, the safest place to be is home cuddled with my sweetie. If the weather remains cool, we may even have a fire in the fireplace.
Many hugs to you sweet one. You remain in my prayers. Love, Sherry
happy, lovely new year wishes to you, sweet jane:) your snow looks beautiful. ours is quickly melting away and i miss it already!
Such a beautiful photo of your street. I need to do that cleaning/purging of my Christmas bins. I swear I'm going to do it this year. ;) I just need to stay focused or else I know me, I will start to get lost in memory lane going through the boxes and get nothing accomplished. ;) Have a wonderful New Year! :)
Hi Jane!
Europe in 2011? That sounds like a grand idea. I've met so many lovely British ladies through blogging and would love to go for a visit.
I have a New Year's Eve date with Anderson Cooper again this year. I prefer to lay-low for this holiday. I think we will have a nice seafood dinner and then just veg in front of the TV or at the PC. I live on the edge. :o)
Happy New Year! La
My hubs has to work the midnight shift his year on the big night, so we will be celebrating with a cozy dinner out the two of us. I'll be hunkering down with my dogs and probably asleep by the time the ball drops! Great advice about cleaning out old and outdated xmas decorations before I put it all away. Thanks Jane
xxoo
Hi Jane,
Ooh, that snow looks lovely but very chilly!!!
I have no big plans for NewYears eve. We just stay in and eat pizza and snacks and most of the time I am fast asleep by the time the clock strikes twelve!
hugs and Happy New Year my sweet friend.
Sissie
I love your dreams:) I haven't been anywhere either. I had to take Caden to his tutor twice but I didn't get out of the car. We had snow (can you believe it?) and I enjoyed it because the snow came out the next day and it started melting. Your picture is pretty.
Sounds like you have a great New Years planned. We will be watching a lot of football. I can't wait.
Your meal sounds very similiar to ours this evening (and the bubbles). A trip to Europe sounds divine. I hope you're doing okay! Your street looks right out of a fairytale with that blanket of snow. It all looks so pretty and clean. Wishing you a happy new year Jane to you and your family. Sonia
Janie,
That is a lot of snow. I would be homebound as well. I am not a snow person, but I like to look at it...in pictures!
I hope you go to London and all of the UK. You will sincerely enjoy it. Especially if you love architecture and history. Before you go, watch the Tudors. It is an HBO original series (available on DVD) and it really makes the Tower of London and Hampton Court come alive. Buy the Eyewitness Guide to LONDON by DK before you go, so you can see the things you want to visit. There is also a Great Britain guide that is fabulous by DK. OOO, I'm excited for you.
HI Janie, I don't have any BIG plans for the year. I WISH I had a plan to MOVE out of this house. I have been wanting to move for quite awhile. We don't travel much because up til this past year I was too terrified to fly. I did fly this past Jan. so hopefully we can do more now. We are going out tomorrow night. A group of us get together at one friends house. She provides snacks and dessert and we all pitch in for food from an Italian restaurant. It is s nice, quiet but fun night. Hope you have a great new year!!!! XO, Pinky
I was thinking of you the other day when they mentioned the weather. I always do when they say Chicago. I didn't go out to any of the sales. Where on earth would I put anything else? I never stay up till midnight. An old fuddy duddy and too sleepy. You two have a wonderful New Year's Eve!
Brenda
Sounds like wonderful travel plans for the new year. For the new year I wish all your dreams to come true. Happy New Year. Hugs, Marty
Nope, no plans for NYE. First day I have been out of bed after a nasty stomach virus.
No travel plans for us, we can't ever do that. So I have to make myself happy where I am.
Bloom where you grow as they say.
Happy 2011, Jane!
Hi Jane,
Oh can I understand the cabin fever thingy. Today I had to staff in Eau Claire so I did get out the house and that was a good thing even though staffing is long and boring. hehe.
I am trying so hard not to hit the Christmas decor sales too! Oh, it is so hard! I have had stuff in my cart and then taken back out.
I have plenty of Christmas stuff already!
I am heading to Phoenix on the
11th to see my son wish you could come along.
Want to go? Seriously. I will be seeing Marty, Karen and Ceekay and hopefully more of the gals.
Big Hugs and Happy New Year too!
Hi to Al!
And tell him your going to AZ. with Cindy!
Cindy
Maybe you NEED to just unwind and snuggle up on that pretty street ...you've had quite a month. Planning a trip is the perfect thing...Great Britain sounds marvelous!!! We spent a short time there and loved it. I'd love to go back.
As for me...going out to a quiet dinner early, then babysitting our grandson so the younger set can watch the ball drop. Happy New Year's, Jane!!
I don't have major plans... Ash and Eric will be over and Bob will cook... other than that, nothing. I love the snow photo...we haven't had a lot this year yet!
SUch a beautiful wintry picture. I hope that the coming year brings you all you hoped for.
Have a Happy New Year! We aren't going anywhere either. I think we will just enjoy the kids a few more days. School will start back up before you know it.
Sherry
I am in just total awe...what a gorgeous street photograph, it's one for the books!
Where I live, it's tropical, I miss the cold, so very much! Thanks for sharing such a sweet and precious Christmas feeling photograph!
Nancy
Beautiful street scene, Jane. 50+ degrees here today and the same for tomorrow. Sat is turning colder again.
Wishing you a great 2011!
xoxo
That DOES look like a photo of A Wonderful Life, Jane! lol! We still haven't received any more snow here - and today it rained with more coming tomorrow. Which is fine and dandy with me! Rather that than snow! lol! Anyway, I loved hearing about your traveling dreams. How fun! I pray that they will come true for you. :) We're not big party people, so we're being fuddy duddies and just snuggling in at home, making homemade pizza, and watching the ball come down on TV! Happy New Year, sweetie! ♥
xoxo laurie
It was beautiful when it first came down wasn't it? I am sure more will be coming after the big thaw! We are hunkering down tomorrow night and just enjoying peace and quiet...maybe a decent movie. Wishing you a Happy 2011! ~ Hugs, Patti
Hi Jane, it does look like a scene from a Movie. I just can't begin to imagine how cold it must be. We are sweltering here. Hot windy and 42 degrees. Our garden is shrivelling up before our very eyes.
We are having friends over for Pizza and the kids are planning water fights.
Happy New Year to you and thank you for your kind comments.
What a pretty picture. It was warm and rainy here today, so a lot of the snow melted...yay!
It sounds like you have had a couple of nice relaxing days. I haven't done much either. Tonight is the first day I have even paid any attention to my blog since before Christmas.
A trip to Europe sounds wonderful, you should make 2011 the year. You'll love it.
Hope you have a Happy New Year ♥ Tricia
I hope you have a very happy New Year celebration with your husband, Jane. None us knows what 2011 will bring - but a little planning of trips and adventures can't hurt!
That snow scene looks familiar and we too will be getting the 50 degree weather. Some of the snow will melt and the remainder will freeze again overnight. A vicious cycle.
My New Year's Eve plans? A small party, old friends I see every New Year. I love our traditions.
I still need to make my list for next year! I would love to start having friends over more and taking a few more short 3 day weekend trips! There are so many places within a few hours drive of here and we aren't taking advantage of. We are hosting a party tonight for...my daughter's & her friends and we might stop in across the street at a neighbors, but that's it. Happy 2011 to you and your family!
In the heat of August, we can look back on this photo, and smile. :-)
Gentle New Years hugs...
Hope you have a very blessed New Year and your dreams of traveling Europe become a reality that you will remember for a very long time!
no big plans ...
the bulls and some bubbly
Everything outside is gray and dreary looking right now, but I am NOT wishing for more snow to brighten things up. Sunshine would be great though.
Good luck with your plans to visit Europe. Planning is a big part of the fun!
Happy New Year to you and your family!
What a lovely scene! I love the snow. Have a Happy and Healthy New Year dear friend!!
Lots of love,
Susan and Bentley
xxoo
I loved reading your musings. I feel much the same as you...
I think you should plan and take that trip! Remember... what you focus on expands!!
I'm so happy we have found each other's blogs and made a connection. I look forward to getting to know you even better in 2011.
Happy New Year to you and I'll be home on my couch under a warm blanket watching the ball drop too!!!
Maybe I'll even run outside and bang some pots and pans like I did when I was a kid!!!
Happy New Year and God Bless.
See you in 2011
XO
What a beautiful snowy picture. We are hitting a warm couple of days and the snow is almost gone. BUT living near Buffalo we are sure to get more, lots more before Spring. Have a wonderful New Year.
I am so thrilled that you stopped by today Jane...it means the world to me!
I hope you and your family have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
XOXO
Cathy
that is beautiful! there is nothing like untouched morning snow... may all your dreams come true in 2011 Jane!
Hi Jane, Happy New Year, Our only plans are to have dinner with our friends on the Lane and be home well before mid-nite. I know I won't even keep my eyes open to watch the ball drop and really don't care. :) Yep, that was my son's apartment view. He has the tiniest little apartment, very modern but very very tiny. But he does have an amazing view doesn't he? Do plan that trip to Europe. Once planned it's hard to stop. And go anywhere you want. I have been to 7 European countries and most all speak English. Can't wait to hear all the plans. xoxo Lynn P.s. I have a little tiny bottle of champagne that we never drank on our anniversary back in August. We'll split that tonite. xoxo See you in 2011
Hi Jane, We are snowed in our little prairie house in South Dakota...found you while blog hopping. What a special blog you have, very heart warming and personal...you have another follower here! So sorry for the loss of your father. I lost my dad many years ago and still think of him daily. Hope you have a warm and wonderful new year and make many happy memories!
Happy New Year Jane. Sounds like a great plan for this evening! That is a gorgeous picture, but WOW, so much. Look forward to another year of blogging and blabbing together.
hi jane!
i'm so impressed that you weeded Christmas
ornaments as you decorated. wish i had done
the same!
we have been in the mountains since
Christmas with about five feet of glorious
snow.
off to see "true grit" and a fun dinner and
probably fast asleep well before the new
year rings in. :)
Happy New Years Eve, Jane. I have to come back and catch up on all you've been doing. Just stopping by to wish you all the best in 2011. See you next year! xoxo Nancy
Happy New Year, Jane! Oh, it's okay to chill out and not go anywhere. I've been a little like that too. We didn't have snow but I just didn't fill like going to sales - doing want to be around all the crowds. Maybe I'm getting old! :)
Now we lived in Roswell, New Mexico, for 10 years and it's a beautiful state. We lived there before all the hype about the UFO business was going on.
Hope your dreams come true and you can travel like you want too.
I'll see you next hear! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Happy New Year!
Hi Jane,
I didn't hit a single sale either after Christmas. I know what you mean about just buying more Christmas stuff that I really don't need!
Enjoy your New Year's eve. Bruce and I are spending a quiet night at home...watching a movie and me reading blogs! We are quite the exciting couple.
I think you should plan that trip to Europe now, you won't regret it.
Happy New Year!
Jane
Hi- ya Blondie!
Thanks for stopping by!
Oh, have you been to London? You will love it, I was only there a couple days and my plans for the countryside were foiled but i dream of it... The Cotswalds, The Lake District... Oh man, you could spend a lifetime there just soaking it in.
How fun.
I have much hope for 2011.
I hope you find your New Year truly blessed indeed. Hope we get to visit in person again soon.

Janie,I'm up coughing and decided to sit up and blog. Here's wishing you a wonderful, blessed New Year. I hope that 2011 brings you many, many things that your heart desires.
As to travel, I adore England. I wish I could go back there and Scotland as well. Wonderful countries both.
Love you much, my friend...

Happiest New Year to you and your family sweet Jane.
May you realize all your aspirations for the New Year and travel everywhere your heart desires.
I've never been abroad , planning on Paris in the spring of 2012 with my daughters and daughter-in-loves.

Sweet Up-North Mornings...
Love your image today...sending you oodles of blessings for 2011 my sweet friend xoxox
Jane, I can SO relate to buying something because it's a good sale! I have that problem too. The snow picture of your street is so pretty. Plans to travel to Europe in 2011 sound like a great idea. If I ever get to travel anywhere, I'll contacct you to tell me where to stay. Wishing you and yours a wonderful 2011! laurie
Happy New Year, Jane!
Well, I had to work on New Years night covering the live shows to the east coast but because of the time difference I was home by 10pm so we just had a very quiet New Year evening at home.
Planning your trips sounds like the perfect plan for this weekend. Both England and the Southwest sound wonderful.
I know the last part of this year was a bit sad for you so I wish you much happiness, peacefulness, health and prosperity for the new year. Happy New Year.
Jane, I totally get the cabin fever and not wanting to shop and load up on more Christmas items that you don't need. Your street looked so beautiful and I would have totally enjoyed hunkering down w/you and ringing in the new year w/your champagne, cheese and sausage. Yum! I was going to do the same as you about the wreath and turn an extra greenery one I have into a snow one b4 I found the one I did. I hope you do, I would love to see what you come up with. Thanks for stopping by, it's always a pleasure to hear from you!
Happy New Year sweet friend. I pray the days ahead of you are filled with the GREATEST JOY! I hope knowing your Daddy is heaven gives you peace.
You are in my thoughts and prayers always.
Love,
Rebecca
Have a great New Blog year! and I hope you get to do your traveling. Don't forget, I am here in AZ!!
It's nice to just stay home and relax once in a while, Janie,
especially if there is snow out there and it is cold. We were in
the 70's for a few days but it got cold today again, 30's, which is cold for me. I feel overwhlemed again, had a dinner party on the
30th and will have another one on the Tues, the 4th and we are going to Seattle this month for John's meeting. We are going to mee Vanna (Delusions of Grandeur) and I am so excited about that. You take care, my friend! oh if you want to travel SW, I recommend Sta. Fe. You will love it for sure!...Christine
Noooooo, don't make resolutions! They are evil and designed to keep us away from what's really important in life, like chocolate. ;-)
Beautiful images, Jane....I wish we had some snow down this way, winter images are so gorgeous!
Happy New Year, my sweet friend!
Hugs,
Anne
Oh my goodness... it looks sooo cold in that picture... but beautiful, too!
Doesn't it feel good to finally have a rest after all of the holiday festivities? You've been a good girl, not going to any of the sales. I did manage to pick up a few more decorations at Target at 1/2 price... so I couldn't resist... lol! ;-)
I hope you had a wonderful New Year's Eve and wish you all the very best in 2011, my friend! I've so enjoyed our comradery and look forward to even more of it this year... and lots and lots of great inspiration! Cheer's to 2011!
xoxo,
Jo :)
Hi Jane,
Loved that post. Traveling is a great goal for this year. I may have to jump on that bandwagon and plan a great trip or two. I would love to see England.
If you end up out my way...look me up. I am in So Cal.
You're picture was fantastic...
Enjoy
Maryrose
