A WEDDING AND A LOT OF RAIN

Is it possible that one could have a busy but uneventful week? Well, that is what I have had. It has been 6 straight days of rainy and/or gray weather. I have been trying to get my flowers in between rainstorms. Yes, I am still planting flowers. It isn't easy to do with 2 homes. And believe it or not, while flats of annual flowers go for $9.99 in Michigan where the lakehouse is, they are $18.00 here in Chicago. However, the selection is better here. So it is a little confusing, even to me, where I am buying and where I am planting.

Anyway, we went to a wedding Friday and my whole family was there. Emily's boyfriend was the best man for his brother, the groom. My son Kevin was also part of the wedding party as the groom was his college roommate. Above is a picture of Emily with Mike {her boyfriend}. The wedding was held at a beautiful country club and we had the best time.
This is son Kevin and his girlfriend, Mary Clair. We just love her to death. They are quite serious and I am loving that. We didn't get home from the reception until 2:00 a.m. and that is about 5 hours past my bedtime. We left for the lake early Saturday morning and I slept all the way. We had a good weekend in spite of the rain and clouds and a tiny bit of sun. My vegetable garden is looking very nice...the peas and beans have stuck their little heads out and I am waiting for everything to mature a bit before I take pictures for you. I planted a ton of pots and baskets with my $9.99 a flat of flowers and things are looking really colorful. We had a truckload of sand delivered as we do every summer to replenish our beach. I have great memories of our kids climbing that hill of sand and sliding down into the water. Those were the days.

Below is a picture of Kevin, Emily and I at the wedding reception. It was taken pretty late and we are looking a little worse for the wear. Son Jeffrey was there too, but he is very private and doesn't want to be on my blog. Abby wasn't there, she was staying at a cottage on Lake Michigan for a girlfriend weekend. How fun!

So as I said, it was a busy but uneventful week. And it was a good one, maybe the best sort of one. And I am wishing you the same. Thanks for coming by!

I love your pictures, Jane! SWEET!

It has poured and poured and poured here in Oklahoma for the three days. Everything is flooded and the flowers look pathetic. At least they are $18 a flat here! OUCH!

You look beautiful.

Hi Jane aka Blondie! Sounds like you had a really fun time at the wedding. Sorry to hear about all of your rain. I was talking on the phone last night to my Aunt Susan who lives in Chicago and she also mentioned the rain and cool temps. We had sunshine yesterday, so hopefully it's coming your way. Have a great Tuesday!

Love,
Susan and Bentley

We have had a lot of rain in central Missouri, too. All my stuff is in and I have lovely tomatoes. One has a blush to it! I am watching it carefully!

Janie, I love the pics of you and the kids! Just beautiful.

I can identify with you about flowers and houses. It is so hot here that things are frying. ;-)

I can't wait for you to come back to Florida to visit. Nights of Lights runs from about the 21st or so of November to the 31st of January. It is so pretty. Last year I read about something where they had caroling on one of the tour trains. That would be fun! One year around Christmas, we walked with the reenactors to the fort from the Plaza, singing Christmas carols and carrying candles. It was so special. It is a neat place. There's a lot to see and do, and when Claudie was here, we didn't even scratch the surface.

XO,

Sheila :-)

I will send your some hot weather if you send me some rain. Trust me you do not want to be here on HH island today. I have the same flower issues with two places Atlanta and HH island as far as pricing and selections go. Looks like you had a fun time with your family at the wedding.

Hi Janie,
I love the pics of you and the kids! Your daughter is just the spitting image of you! In fact, in that first pic, I thought that was you!
We've had the same rain girlfriend.
I am so sick of it. They're saying tomorrow sun. I saw like 15 minutes of it this morning and I felt blinded. hehe.

It must be so nice to have a place out in the country like that.

That actually makes sense about the flowers; everything is more expensive in cities.

Jane,
You are all such good looking peeps! I am wondering where your lakehouse might be... I live in Grand Haven, anywhere near there? I can relate to planting at 2 places. We have a cabin north of us.... I gave up long ago on growing anything there, we aren't there enough for me to keep things watered.
Blessings as always~

I am still planting too! With all that is going on and house guests, I run out and do a few flats whenever I can!
Our flats of 48 are around 10.00 too, but they should be coming down. I bought 12, and I need a few more.
I also bought a lot of diamond frost, it is so pretty and airy, and the deer don't eat it! But it is 3.00 for a little pot. ):
Great pics, sounds like a wonderful time!

Hope you're having a great week.

Hi Jane,
How fun to go to a wedding with almost the entire family present. I haven't been to a fun one in a very long time - the last one we went to was such a DUD!! You look like you were having a fun time.
Glad your garden is coming along. For the first time I've got actual live tomatoes - lots of sun here now that the oak tree is gone!
Hope you are having a fun week, with less rain.

Sorry about all your rain. But we're getting a lot of no-sun too. It does put a damper on looking for and putting in flowers. But if we don't get going, all we'll have are our left-over Petunias. Eeeek! :-)

I am getting a little weary of all the rain here in the plains...I really need sunshine in order to function properly.
I haven't planted but a few more herbs...most everything I have are perennials and if anything I pull them up when they spread too much! Oh, wait, I have filled some planters with petunias and herbs, some with geraniums, almost forgot about those.
It may have been late when the picture was taken but it still came out beautifully. Have a great weekend, Jane!

What a beautiful picture of you, your son and his sweet girlfriend. Your would never know it was taken late at night. I'm having trouble getting flowers planted here, I can't get motivated lately. We just bought a house and are moving to NJ on the bay, so I really can't think straight at this point. Nothing was planned, we went away for a weekend and bought a house, sold ours and now....oh no, moving out of state...I don't know what's next, but I'm excited. I'm sorry I haven't been by lately, I miss blogging and all my friends. I can't wait to move at the end of July or start of August, get settled and then do some blogging.
