TABLESCAPE THURSDAY: EVENING SUPPER IN THE SUMMERHOUSE

Today I am joining Susan at Between Naps On The Porch for Tablescape Thursday. After you have a peek at mine, visit Susan and see what she and all of our blogger friends have in store for us after playing with their dishes!

Today I am sharing a table setting I did in the Summerhouse up at the lake. I know there has been some confusion about the Lakehouse and the Summerhouse. The former is where we actually live and the latter is a sort of a guesthouse or a screened in building to run for when the mosquitoes invade! I have shown pictures of it before. It is very simple and I am slowly working on it bit by bit. Twin beds pull out of the wall hidden by double door closets. I have a couple of pieces of wicker furniture, a vintage cabinet and finally I have found a table and chairs. Goldilocks and the Three Bears can move right in! LOL!! Actually, it was The Husband that wanted the table and chairs; to have coffee and read the paper, do a crossword, play on the laptop... that last sentence was the magic one for me. I found my table at The Worlds Longest Yard Sale and I promised I would show you my big find soon and this is what it is. I do, however, have some work to do on it and the chairs, so I am only showing what you see in this tablescape (oh, the suspense!!).

I set my chippy (very chippy) little drop leaf table after dark one night last week. I used the place mats from Pier I, which I received from the kids on Mother's Day along with a set of dishes that are at this house. Oh, now you are confused. In our wee little house in Chicago where I now sit typing. 100 miles away from the picture you are looking at in the Summerhouse that sits a few feet away from the Lakehouse. Okay...

The white plates are my everyday dishes at the Lakehouse and are by Gibson, as is the soup bowl. The blue and yellow salad or dessert plate is from my grocery store. I had my eye on these plates for months. I patiently waited for them to go on sale and when they finally replaced them with something else and marked them down...I promptly fell in love with the new stuff. But I persevered and bought only the plates I originally wanted.

The napkins and wine glasses are from Marshall's and the water goblets are from The Dollar Tree. My flatware is from Target.

I found these tiny little bud vases at Target a few weeks a go. I believe they were only $3.99 for a set of 4. I love them. They are especially nice to have around if you have a bouquet of mixed flowers that is pretty much dead, but you don't want to throw it out because some flowers, usually the carnation's, are still full and plump and happy. Stick them in a bud vase. Or in this case, you have a perfectly new and healthy bouquet, but you want to spread the joy, so to speak...bud vases in every room!!

I have this little hurricane lamp from a thrift shop. It worked perfect in this tablescape.
So, this is my first tablescape at the lake. I hope you liked it. I want to touch up just a bit of the chippiness of the table, it actually looks battered! And I will show you what it looks like with the leaves, they have a really nice curve to them. And I think I will crawl under it and see if I can find the name of the manufacturer (that will be fun!!)
I leave you with a picture of the Great Room in the Lakehouse. You can see our harvest table (which I was in no mood to do a tablescape on) and the tall table by the window where I use my laptop. It is the only place in the house that gets a signal. But it is right by the windows where I can look out at the bay while I work. It doesn't get any better than that!!

Enjoy the rest of your week!!
xoxo
Jane

I love this Janie! It looks so crisp and summery. Love the blue and yellow plates. You cracked me up about falling in love with their replacements, that is SO something I would do. What a wonderful place to have an evening cup of coffee and listen to the water. Can't wait to see more of your yard sale find! Kathy

Love the blue and yellow touches on the plates and the napkins.

I laughed when you talked about patiently waiting for dishes to be marked down on clearance, only to fall in love with the new dishes!!! How I can relate. Love your lake table. :D Jewel

Where am I? Lol.
How fun to have more than one place to play with. I can't wait until our cabin is getting some inside TLC and not just the outside.
By the way, yes we would slice up potatoes and cook them on the black cooktop without any oil. They would blister and blacken and had a charred taste. Yuck but we were hungry. Funny thing is that is a fond memory? Go figure.

Jane, your table is lovely....just as you are!

I do hope something I said helped you. You are such a great person....you will reinvent yourself again and again in this life. We must all do that....if we are to survive and be truly healthy.

Aren't you excited......just thinking about what is ahead? Wow!

Again, beautiful table, sweetheart.

Big hugs, Barb

Hi Jane - I love white/cream china and adding blue and yellow always looks good. Love those placemats, very unusual....and the bud vases, I use these for single blooms also. It all looks so inviting and quite romantic - especially like your chippy table, gives a vintage feel to a modern setting, I like that!

Hope your days are happy dear - I've missed you stopping by but know you are busy.

Warm hugs - Mary.

All the vintage items on your "wonderful" table are great. What a wonderful memory each and every time you sit at it to know you got it at the Longest Yard Sale. I adore the placemats and your darling hurricane lamp..Don't you love waiting for things to go on sale you've had your heart set on and then to actually find they are still there and get them? I always love hearing from you darling. Have a super day today. I'm off to run hubby to doctors appts...

It's almost as confusing as your name, Jane, Janie or Blondie? lol!

I think I understand it all now, and admit I was a bit confused, too. The summer house is kind of like your playhouse in the backyard of your lake house! I like that you have a spot to go to escape the mosquitoes where coziness and casual life are premier!

I love the blue and white bowls and have to say that is so sweet your kids would get you something thoughtful and useful like placemats for Mother's Day.

Have a great Day Jane!
Love, Dana and Daisy

as for my patio post...I am thinking that it is going to need me to do another post about it...there are so many questions coming in that I never even condsidered!!! lol
a bag of cement here is about $6 including tax. I just used plain old cement...there is a type that is called quickset..but it is about a dollar a bag more...and...it dries to s slightly different color...so you can tell if you use both types..lol

Hi Jane, my darling friend,

I am not using Mr. Linky. You will use the links on my sidebar....simply click into them. A fellow blogger used this system for her huge party (150 blogs) and it worked great. Mr. Linky goes down too much and there are too many problems with him!

Jane, I have been thinking about you.....wanted you to know that I have thought about your question about how I work Fall colors into my decor which is mostly pastels...as is yours. My answer is: I make it work because I love it. Life is short and I don't let things like colors working together disturb me. I adore pumpkins and they really don't go in my home....but I don't care. They make my heart happy and they seem to make my friends and family happy and no one seems to notice that they don't go. I truly believe that when we are happy...others will be happy in our homes.

If one really stopped to think about it.....a tree is a funny thing to plop down in our rooms at Christmas! But it works, doesn't it?

Makes yourself happy.....your heart will sing with joy and then you can make others happy.

So happy you are my friend!

XOXO Barb

Hi Jane,
I am trying to catch up on some of your previous posts, since I have been gone . I must say I enjoyed each of them, but the one that touched me the most was the one you wrote on Aug.11, about Time. This is one of the most heartfelt and well written post that I have read in a long while.
I agree with your last friend this is a time for you to be still, and when the time comes you will know which way to go. I have been in the same place, and it soon passed, but while I was there I rested.
Your tablescape was so restful and beautiful, i got the best smile of the confusion between the Lakehouse and Summerhouse. Now lets see which is which. LOL. anyhow they are both so beautiful and I know you enjoy them both.

Glad you stopped by, Janie. I was wondering where you've been cause I've been missing you.I have been searching for a receipt so I can tell you where I bought the chargers but I cannot find it. I cannot even remember the name of the web store. Marty gave me the link so maybe you can ask her. The flowers aren't real. The chargers, candle holders and vases are not a set. I just kinda put them together. Are you back in Chicago? Yoo bad you couldn't join the "white" blog cause I know you have a lot of white dishes...Christine

Hi! Me again too! I am sorry you aren't feelign well. I hope you feel better. I just read all your comments and want to reply to your questions. My HS class has an email distribution list so when I found out that Evelyn (my HS classmate) is visiting Chicago from the Philippines and I knew my sister and niece and family are driving to visit, I asked her to come along and she did. We had a lot of fun seeing each other again.

Glad you like the arbor and gazebo. And no, neither John nor me is an architect or landscaper, lol, just ordinary people with full of ideas.

I started to round up a pile of "stuff" I bought this past year at yard sales to turn into a tablescape. Mike was really questioning my sanity when I told him I was just getting stuff together to "stage" a table. "Huh?" I guess you have to blog to appreciate. :-)

Yours looks great. I love the colors for the Summerhouse!
