FINDING MY STYLE

Happy spring, everyone!  I've been adding bits and pieces of things to my home that are light and fresh as we wait for the day when we can truly say winter and it's unpredictable weather is behind us  Last week we had a terrible snowstorm that left us with 10 inches of the white stuff, and it surprisingly melted within 2 days.  We've also had thunderstorms and lightning and just about every weather element you can think of.

Thanks so much for all of your well wishes for whatever disease (virus) I have.  ;)  My infectious disease doctor thinks that based on some of my blood work, I have something very similar but different from mono, and wants to pinpoint it as there may be some medications that can help.  I donated more of my precious blood last week and I'm waiting to hear what will happen next.  Last week was terrible as far as my lack of energy and the amount of time I spent sleeping.  From Monday to Wednesday night I slept almost around the clock but for a few 3 hour periods when I moped around and wondered when I'd ever get my life back.  But I do tell myself all the time, in the realm of all the illnesses and diseases out there, I'm fortunate.  I have days when I really perk up and feel energy and that's when I get caught up on laundry, cleaning and cooking something somewhat normal for The Husband.  I even managed to put in some time to get 2 newspaper columns finished up.  I'm also trying to make the rounds to visit all of you.  I want to mention that I've had a glitch in sending email replies to comments.  It's definitely on my end, something pops up that tells me the email is unsuccessful and I simply can't figure it out.  So please know I'm reading your comments, listening to your experiences, advice and get well wishes, and I really do appreciate it.

My new and improved reupholstered sofa was delivered back to me on Monday.  I'm really happy with it.  I shared a picture of the sample fabric in THIS post if you want to see it close up.  It's sort of a window pane pattern, cream on taupe.  It looks nubby but it's actually soft.

I mentioned that I've been looking for a new coffee table as the glass one I have now is just not safe with the little ones visiting.  I was going to look for an ottoman like the one I have at the lake from Pier 1 (you can see it in that same post I linked to earlier).  That was a real bargain and it's very well made if you are considering a small ottoman.  But then that little Jane voice inside said, "Sounds like too much fabric in the room, Jane."  And then that little voice was saying, "A lot of beige here, too, Jane."  So I have food for thought and I may want to have this little Jane exorcised out of me as well.  I'm actually ready to make some decisions tomorrow...I'm sleeping on it.  Hahahaha...

Another view, it looks like it has a sheen to it but it doesn't.  It's actually very cottage~like.  I'd like to go to Hobby Lobby, someone told me that they carry pillow covers.  That sounds great as I have a ton of outdated and ugly pillows and to be able to slip on a new cover is like, well...reupholstering a sofa.

Decisions...

Our little Madelyn was Christened this past Sunday.  She looks like a little bride here, doesn't she?  She should because her dress was made out of Emily's wedding gown.  There was one other baby being baptized at the same time and I couldn't help but notice her gown.  As I clawed my way to the front of the group to get a photo when they were pouring the water on Madelyn's head,  I noticed a woman who looked grandmotherly (like me) and so I had to whisper to her, identify her relationship to this baby (indeed the grandmother), and learned that dress was actually almost 100 years old, and the woman;s father was the first to be christened in it and 5 more babies thereafter.  It was beautiful.  And of course, so was Madelyn.

The church was having a fundraiser and selling sweets so just before we had to enter the church, I made a beeline towards the tables laden with cookies, cakes, brownies, pies...and then tripped on an uneven sidewalk and made a very graceful fall down on to my knees and then rocked back on my rear end.  I was so appalled all I could do was sit there, my face red with embarrassment.  But I guess if you ever have to fall you may as well do it in front of a Catholic church.  Within seconds I was surrounded by concerned men and women helping me up, one lady offering me her handkerchief for my bleeding knee, a man not a day younger than ninety offering to help me inside to a pew.  It was so, so sweet, but all I kept thinking was how much I wanted a chocolate chip cookie.  Still, very nice people.

The after party was close to home and it was a great time.  A smallish neighborhood restaurant that set up a buffet of baked potato soup, stuffed pork tenderloin, green beans and roasted potatoes.  The cake came from a local bakery.

These gorgeous cookies are made by a lady in the neighborhood who is known by word of mouth.  They are about 1/4 inch thick and the flavor is unbelievable.  The cake and cookies disappeared.   We've known Mike's family forever so it was a huge family get together and I enjoyed seeing all of these people on his side of the family that love Madelyn as much as we do.

I'm still watching her on Mondays when Emily works downtown.  With this possibly different virus, the key is to wash my hands often, especially after using the washroom.  It's passed on through urine. I cleared that with the doctor because I really love having her for the day.  I do get very tired but I keep her little cradle next to my bed and when she naps I rest and read and doze a little.  She's getting very accustomed to the atmosphere in our home, and when I look at her she always recognizes me with a big smile.  I just love this little darling.

This has been a good week so far.  I came down with some sort of chest congestion thing with a cough that sounds like a cross between a dog barking and a foghorn.  Thankfully I still have some cough syrup prescribed last week for when I had some sort of bronchitis thing.  I'm just going to keep catching things, that's the deal.  But in my lucid moments I use disinfectant everywhere so its safe for people to come and go, and I guess its best that I really just stay close to home since so much is airborne.  We have several family members down with some sort of flu going around.  Today I dragged myself out of bed at the crack of 11:00 and the thought of going to the grocery store loomed in front of me.  All I wanted was a hot shower and clean P.J's, followed by a little nap.  We were literally down to nothing though, including Milo and Layla's little snacks.  While I was making coffee and contemplating Plan A, I was reminded of that little nursery rhyme, "Mother Hubbard went to her cupboard..."  So it was more like a hot shower and then out into the 30 degree cold and wind and boy, it's been a long time I've done a big shopping with feeling so down, so my cart was overflowing.  Before I left home I had grabbed a page from one of my notepads with several new recipes to try and the ingredients I needed and I picked those up as well.  It's such a nice feeling to be stocked up and ready to cook and eat healthy again.  We've been having a lot of frozen pizza, Chinese, and occasionally, Corn Flakes for dinner.  But as fate would have it, I was so tired once I got home, well...frozen pizza it was.

See you soon!

There is nothing wrong with frozen pizza. We have it often. I also have less than no energy, and have no excuse for it. I called it winteritice and am hoping athat a dose of spring will help.

I hope you will be feeling better soon.

No worries catching up at my place....nothing going on whatsoever. I'm at the stage where I would like to be napping and you're at the stage where you'd prefer not to have to. Yours is the more healthful response I think. Madelyn is adorable and what a heritage. Your sofa is lovely and I am sure that you will come in for a landing on your decor decisions.

You know, they make some really good frozen pizzas now, so no worries there. :) I sure hope you find answers soon and start feeling better. Loved seeing the sweet pics of Madelyn and I certainly hope you eventually got your chocolate chip cookie. Now I want one too. :)

Blondie, Bless your heart honey... Up at the crack of 11:00 .LOL. Go with your beiges and add color with throws, pillows ,and flowers. Madeline is a beauty. I love that her dress is made from Emily's wedding dress. A treasure for sure. I truly hate when there seems to nothing to fix for dinner here. My MIL could whip up dinner with barely anything. I am not that good. :( I like simple meals any more. LOL...I think I have gotten slow in my old age. Get well my friend. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

What a little darling she is! Love the idea of using the wedding gown, great idea! And your new sofa is lovely too. I am not one for the white on white look but your home looks great. :) I love the design on the cake, she does such a wonderful job. Keep getting better. :) Kit

I am so sorry that you are feeling so ill! I hope you feel better soon. Maybe once it warms up and you can get some sunshine. That always makes me feel better. I have been getting the weird email notices (delivery failure) when I comment on blogs for over a year. I finally realized I can see my comment posted on the blog so whatever they are talking about doesn't actually seem to affect my ability to comment.
Madelyn is so precious and that christening dress is amazing! What a sweet heirloom to have. Feel better soon Jane!

I'm sorry you're so tired, but you are doing what your body needs--rest and naps! So sweet you can have Madelyn on Mondays. Savor the moments as they grow up SO quickly as I'm sure you know. What a gorgeous picture of her!

A foghorn huh? Lol I think I can beat that, but we won't go there. ;)

I'm glad I'm about to eat dinner Jane, because after reading this (as always), I'm hungry! And I think you and Fisherman would get along...'Up at the crack of 11'. Lol

What a beautiful dress Madalyn had, fitting for such a doll!

Hoping whatever it is that's going on with your health can be pinpointed soon! Not knowing must be so hard.

Love your new upholstered sofa . . .
Cozy, comfortable and some cottage too . . . very nice!

I hope the extra blood work reveals why the sleepiness and no energy . . .

You amaze me, watching adorable Madelyn in the midst of not feeling tip top.
Oh my . . . her dress, so lovely!

Falling in front of a bunch of people is so embarrassing . . .
Maybe this will help give you a giggle or two . . .
Several years ago, while at a picnic, outdoors, several people sitting around together,
I sat down in one of those web, woven mesh, metal chairs and plop . . .
went right through, legs flying, butt hit the ground.
Quite the sight in my cute, short summery dress.

EMBARRASSING . . . we need to be able to laugh at ourselves though . .
Makes me giggle even now, to remember.
I do hope you have no broken knee caps or arms, legs etc, . .

Wishing you sweet springtime days . . . and feeling better.

I feel your pain! I am the Queen of Falls, and I have just learned to get up and go on about my business (with a reddened face).

The baby was so adorable for her big day, and I love the pretty cake. The menu sounds wonderful and comforting, too.

I do hope you will be feeling better soon. I am cutting out sugar and white flour and rice, etc., and am feeling much better already. For someone with a serious sweet tooth, this is HARD!

Blessings on Madelyn, such a cute little thing. I'm glad you have her company while you're getting better.
I do hope the doctors can get a handle on what's up with your health. Frozen pizza is a fine meal when you're not feeling up to anything else (or even if you are)!

I am so sorry that you are so sick and I pray that the Dr will get to the bottom of what's wrong and correct it. I hope its soon for you.

Love your sofa, it looks really good. Good luck with finding your coffee table or large foot stool. I am sure you will pick the right one for your home.

The Christening sounds beautiful and her dress is beautiful and what a beautiful little girl.
Both of your little girls are so pretty. The menu sounds so good, I love a good pork tenderloin - it's my favorite. The cake and cookies were amazing and I can tell they tasted good also.

So sorry that you fell at the church. It's so embarrassing when a person falls. how nice for everyone to come to your rescue.

Well my dear, I'm off to get ready for bed so when my programs come on I am ready LOL.

Hope you feel better soon and do take care of yourself.

Lots of hugs,

I hope you are feeling better, Jane. Nothing wrong with frozen pizza if you ask me. It happens here at least once a week. Love, love the picture of Madelyn. So precious! I am glad the celebration went well. Your new reupholstered couch looks beautiful. The fabric is so pretty. If you don't find any covers and end up finding a fabric you like, I will be happy to make you some new pillow covers, for free, of course, all you have to do is send me the fabric. Have a wonderful weekend! Maria

Jane! I've been wondering where you've been since I haven't heard from you. Just checked your blog and I see you've been very sick. I am so sorry. Will be keeping you in my prayers. In the meantime, if frozen pizza and takeout food is all you can manage right now, so be it. When I was laid up with my knee, we did takeout quite a few times, too. Brian cooked a couple of times, but that was all he could handle. ;-)

Love the new upholstery on your sofa - very pretty. And how beautiful is your darling granddaughter in her christening gown!

Oh Honey---that Maddie in her precious dress! She just looks like a baby doll, and she's going to grow up to be beautiful like her Gram! There is no happier time than when we have our little ones like that--(our children are spectacular, yes). Grands, though, are like magical tiny wood fairies! More precious than gold----and the happy proof that our lineage will go on!

I so love the easy way you bring your pretty rooms together. I just wish it were that easy for me. Our house is a tiny GI house ,which my husband has never wanted to update-which is depressing honestly. And now that I am no longer able to do very much for all my falling last year, from January through December, then falling in the bathtub the last of this past February and deeply bruising my ribs on my right side. I'd become used to being kind of laid up, too, along with being depressed, too. So I do know you're feeling, although we have different things going on. I'm so sorry, Jane-I know about how that feels---but am happy that you overcome so much better. You are YOUNGER! You have SO MUCH to live for, Jane---find out who the right doctors are, and get on with that beautiful life with your lovely family.
Honey--you're such a sweet, thoughtful woman, I've known it since we connected on this blog, and began to write to one another. Thank you so much for listening when I was so down. Now, look for everything and anything that will fulfill you, sweet girl---even if it's pretending! And soon, it won't be pretending in the least--it will become real, ladybug! Summer will be upon you and the family at the Lakehouse--and poof! Happy time! Be well, sweetpea! Love,Trudy

Hi Jane,

So sorry to hear that you are still battling with this health challenge. I hope that your second set of blood tests reveal the real culprit so that you can get to the root of the problem.

Madelyn is adorable in her christening outfit! How lovely that it was made from her mother's wedding dress!

Your newly upholstered sofa is very chic and looks comfy, too. Enjoy!

Take care, sweetie. Sending prayers and positive energy your way.

You are in my thoughts my friend.

Your sweet baby grand is just the sweetest cutest wee thing ever - oh how I adore her beautiful babtimal gown. She is a delight.

I am so sorry you fell - just ouch! Seeing as I just broke my toe, well, I truly feel your pain.

And your right about us Catholics, we are a helpful bunch. I sing in choir and today one of my fellow choir members arranged to have the Holy Eucharist brought to me so I didn't have to labor and shuffle and struggled my way around the church to receive it. Very thoughtful bunch, usually. Lots of old-school gentlemanly types. ♥

Hope you are feeling better soon - hate you are unwell. Praying it passes quickly, Jane.

God bless. Hugs.

What wonderful memories she will have. I'm sorry but I know you will understand, I had to sort of laugh when you fell going after cookies! How many times we all have done something like that, what an embarrasment! Sounds like the christening was beautiful, the cake and cookies are so pretty. Feel better soon, my friend. It will happen..Happy Sunday..xxoJudy

Madelyn is just the sweetest thing ever, she looks like a little doll in that beautiful dress. So sorry to read about all you have been going through and hope the doctors can diagnose what you have and cure it. Your two homes are just lovely, I like how you have been decorating them. And to think you have done all this while being so tired. Rest as much as you have to and don't feel guilty about it.

Dear Jane, I'm so sorry to find out you've felt so badly lately. I hope they do pin it down enough to add a med that will help quickly. Forcing yourself to get out and shop for provisions must have taken a lot of strength. The dogs must be wondering what's wrong with mom but I bet they love having you napping with them.

Your granddaughter is adorable and the special occasion of her christening must have turned everyone's heart to mush, it always does mine. That's why you tripped, I bet! I'm very glad that if it had to happen that it happened where nice people were there to help.

Please take care and don't rush recuperating,
Dewena

Jane, I hope you are so much better! I've heard of so many folks lately that the doctor's can't diagnose. A friend of mine has been trying to find out for about 7 years, and still doesn't know. She was sick before I retired, and I've been retired for 5 years already. We enjoyed 80 degree weather at the lake last week and had planned to stay longer but learned that our home here had been in a terrible hail storm so we came on home to check on it. Thankfully, all was well. Those sweet baby girls, so beautiful. I tend to be the one who falls in our family. I've fallen in front of several post offices, stores, all kinds of crowded places. I feel in front of Kirklands one year, and just kicked my packages all the way to my car. Don't you know that was a sight to see? I was pissed and embarrassed about the fall, so I think I did the kicking so no one would dare ask is they could help. I have learned to be much more careful.

I'll be saying prayers for you to get well. You've had enough, and there's lots you want to do1! Take care, sweet friend!

Hi Jane! Madelyn is positively precious and I love the idea of making the dress out of the Mom's wedding gown. So sorry you are not feeling well. If your doctor can't figure this thing out you need to find a doctor that can. When my daughter was ill I wasted 4 months with a doctor who couldn't figure out what was wrong. When he wanted to put her on antidepressants, we walked out of his office. I researched and found a Dr. who figured out what was wrong after looking at her numerous test results in a few minutes. Thank God, she is perfectly healthy today. Good luck and hope you feel better.
