EASTER/SPRING TABLESCAPE, TREATS AND A DESSERT DISASTER

I set my table the night before.  The only flowers I bought were just one bouquet of tulips...I knew every surface would be used for appetizers and drinks.  So I jazzed up this hurricane with some real lily's which were part of an old bouquet, for a centerpiece.  I just snipped the stems off and stuck them into the existing greenery (if you look close, it's pinecones and berries, this is a Christmas decoration and I just switch the candle out to use it year round).  Some random eggs and candles finished things off.

I alternated clear salad plates with the little bunny plates from Pier 1 that I shared in this post.  I used different types of napkin rings, these gold bunnies and...

I mentioned here that I was going to try my hand at a "signature" drink.  I found a recipe for a Sunlight Sangria, I think in a Williams Sonoma catalog.  The recipe was included in that post.  It was really, really good and we made three batches of it (that's reeeeeally good!).  Most people thought the tequila was a bit too much and that I should hold back a bit more on the lime, otherwise they were a hit and I promised to make them again.  I broke down and bought a glass dispenser with a spout from Target.  Good investment.

Yesterday I worked in the kitchen for three straight hours washing things by hand and running two loads in the dishwasher.  I don't know if it was the cocktails, but everyone was laughing and talking well up to 9:00 p.m. (we started at 2:30).  I just didn't want to spoil the fun with a major clean up.  I still have things soaking.

I want to get out to take some pics of all the bulbs I have sprouting...it rained last night and everything has turned such a bright vibrant green, so pretty.  Today is Abigail's birthday so we are having dinner downtown near her house.  She wants me to call it a house, not an apartment.  :)  We're going to a new place called Tango Sur...sounds interesting.

I hope all of you had a wonderful Easter and are off to a great week.

Our dog had a cancerous tumor removed from his head, he went on to live five years to the age of 15, maybe this will be the way for your little pal as well, our dog Buck had numerous health issues but survived them all to an old age, cost us a small fortune lol, but he was family!I will keep him in my prayers for sure!

  3. Your desserts look wonderful, Jane...even the cheesecake fluff!
I'm glad you all had such a great time together! That's what holidays are all about, right?
I'm sorry about Milo. Our Bella has seizures, also. She is on medication, and it helps the symptoms. We will keep treating them until it becomes too much for her. That is as far as I can "think" right now.
    Have a great week!!

  5. First off, the table looks wonderful and actually, I love it when someone can use their things in a new and interesting way. Second, I love butt buns and am going to take the name to our Thanksgiving dinner. Third, our dogs are our lives, especially when our kids don't need us quite so much. My little Truman recently had abdominal surgery. Broke my heart to see him in pain and wearing that silly cone. He's better. I'll pray for your dogson.

  6. Jane - so sorry about Milo! Our pets are so much a part of our family that it hurts terribly when something is wrong. Think positive thoughts and they can do so much now in the vet field of medicine. Praying for you Both!

Looks like you had a wonderful Easter with family. What precious time and memories.

  7. Hi Jane,
I'm sending big positive thoughts out to the universe for Milo. He's a sweetie. I loved your table, those napkin rings are so perfect. Had to laugh over your dessert, I bet it was tasty though! Enjoy your week xx Nancy

  8. First, the happy stuff. Your Easter sounded like it was a happy, fun-filled occasion. Love your new recipes, the cheesecake fluff! Too funny. But oh my gosh, when I read about Milo...tears filled my eyes and I actually said, "Oh, no!" out loud. I can't believe he has a cancerous tumor (on top of having seizures). Poor little pup. And poor you. I am so sorry. I will say a prayer for Milo - and for you too, of course. {{hugs}}

  9. Oh honey--I was all--getting ready to tell you how only you could turn a "disaster-cheesecake" into a wonderful "new dessert", and how absolutely cute the bunnies were..and how awesome your children must know you are to do all this preparation so filled with love just for them. (Minus the Led Zeppelin, of course--for Easter, no less??!) ;)
Then, I read about Milo--and being an animal lover myself, I couldn't get that out of my mind! Jane, I'll be praying for that dear, sweet fur-baby of yours---and for you all--I know he will be well taken care of. Taking care of all your family is what you do best, I believe.!

You are an awesome homemaker and cook, as well as mom.wife/Grammie---and yes, even cyber-friend. You inspire me to rise above little things and try to make tomorrow a better day! You give me much needed thoughts from a different perspective when I need it.-You just want the best for all people--no matter who or where they are. I'm so glad Easter was a wonderful day for you--however tiring, I know it was another memory to tuck away.
You're really a wonderful girl, Jane! Don't you forget it. <3

What a lovely Easter celebration for your family. Everything looked so pretty and special. Your family must feel really special and loved.

  11. Jane, you know just how to cook everything, and I'm just in awe of you. I don't have the faintest idea how to do half of what you do in the kitchen. I'm so sorry about Milo. I sure hope this can be taken care of. I know how frightened you must be. You're such a good pet mama. Take it one day at a time, all you can do.

  15. So sorry about little Milo...hopefully surgery will get all the cancer cells. Did the doctor say whether the seizures were related to the cancerous tumor?
Sounds like you had a very successful Easter holiday. Love that you thought fast enough to name your disaster Cheesecake Fluff!
    Have a great dinner tonight.

  16. All your food pictures look great, Jane! I don't think that dessert was a disaster. If everyone was raving about it, I would call it a success! I have to tell you it looks pretty good, but presentation is not that important to me. : )

It sounds like you all had a great time. And, hey, it's not a holiday if you don't have some kind of argument with the hubby. That's how I look at it anyway. : )

Your table looked so pretty. Sorry about Milo I know you must be so worried. It is so hard when they get older and start to have so many issues. My daughter just lost her 5 year old doxie last week so it is so hard and it hits me at different times too. Hugs,

  19. I know how Milo's illness must be weighing on your mind. You're doing all that can be done,, and there's so many advancements in medicine that this very well could have a happy outcome.

I see you think quickly on your feet...cheesecake fluff! Love it, and maybe it won't win a blue ribbon for presentation, but I'm sure it was delish! In fact, I know it was because everyone was scarfing it up

  20. Hi there cutie! Can't believe how similar our Easter's were .. I had a chocolate cake disaster and couldn't decide which music I wanted to play because the entire dinner was a tribute to my Mother. Ended up playing classic 50s music that I grew up listening and dancing to. Ham, Mother's potato salad, her fresh fruit Jell-O salad, marinated tomatoes/cucumbers (my Dad's recipe)and cheesy biscuits. We were going to have an Easter Egg hunt in our town home back yard common area ~~ but it snowed!!! Just fluffy flakes.

Your table and decorations are stunning, the almond bark I could reach into my monitor and eat!!

    Take care.
    (sending Milo lots of love)

  21. Aww, Jane, I'm sorry for Milo, and will say a prayer for him (and you!). Your Easter looked terrific - such a cute dessert bar! And I laughed out loud at what you called your disaster but I loved your cover - "fluff" - and I am sure it was awesome. I don't think I've ever tasted a bad cheesecake.
Enjoy the nice days coming with your family and fur babies.

  29. Everything looks so good, Jane, even the cheesecake! I had one of those "fails," too......some lemon scones that I made for breakfast on Sunday were as hard as rocks. I either did something very wrong or Martha Stewart let me down!😩 I'll bet the young crowd really liked those cupcake cuties!

  33. Jane,
I think your Easter table looked charming and pretty. Love those napkin rings. Don't get me started over your cupcakes....I so think they were absolutely adorable. I so wish I could of eaten one! Smiled at your menu because the Mac and Cheese I would of pigged out on and think the butt buns is way too cute an idea.
Cheesecake fluff you know everyone's gonna ask you to make that again. I once had a disaster with a springform pan too.
I enjoy music playing and we usually put on a mellow Jazz in the background. But seriously guests really don't notice it once the laughter and conversation with drinks start to flow.
Jane I am so sorry for poor Milo. I hope you will try out the drops to improve his quality of enjoyment. Like I wrote you Max is responding very well with a holistic approach.
    Love ya sweet friend,
    Vera

  34. Sounds like the arguments we have at my house. I don't like R&B & soul for the most part, I'm not a huge rock fan, he's not a pop fan for the most part & nobody but me & brother like rap. LOL. We seem to serve the same things too - ham, potato salad, cole slaw, roast, dirty rice & rolls. When I was a kid if we went to the mall we'd always eat at Piccadilly. Not sure if you've heard of it but it's like Luby's - cafeteria style - I LOVED IT. My most favorite thing was their cheesecake with cherries on top. I haven't had that in years. Poor poor little Milo. I'll be praying.

  37. Hi Jane, I am so sorry to read about Milo. My Coco has seizures through Syringomyelia and it breaks my heart when she suffers but the medication helps. I had to smile when you admitted to the cheesecake! We have a dessert over here called Eton Mess which is basically a meringue, strawberries and cream which many years ago was dropped... and from then on it became a popular dessert. You never know, you may have started a new craze :-) Take care my lovely xx

  45. Dear Jane,
I am glad that you have the comfort and support of a loving family near you. Your Easter sounds heavenly and the food and table was just wonderful. I have two sisters and an aunt in Florida...so family is pretty much gone now. I just went through an emotional thing with my friend taking her dog to the vet Monday to look at what she thought was a fatty tumor on Chloe's tail and it was cancer, too. So everyone who knows Chloe is upset and having just finding this out this week, I have so much empathy for you. My friend doesn't have the money for the amputation and then chemo and radiation. Upsetting. I hope your pup can get through this. He looks as fit as a fiddle. If he is strong he can fight it. New things are just around the corner for fighting cancer. I've been reading about so many breakthroughs.Best wishes and love to a beautiful person. Ginene
