SPRING CLEANING AT THE LAKEHOUSE

So, we've been here since Saturday.  You might remember that a bachelorette party took place here a few weeks ago.  My daughters had told me that the place was cleaned top to bottom before and after the party.  Well, it turned out, not so much after.  There were a ton of towels in the laundry room as well as the sheets from the beds and something sticky all over the floors.  I think by now you have realized that I'm a closet clean freak.  Give me a few old rags, paper towels and cleaning products and I can make a day of it.  Since I've been simplifying so much at home, I decided to do the same here.  I started with the counter above.  I had every appliance I owned on this counter including a food processor and smoothie blender that I used maybe once.  The dishes on the shelves are used everyday, the open shelves are pretty and functional.  But a little editing never hurts!

The washing machine ran two days straight, I washed all the floors and cleaned the bathrooms.  The Husband tinkered with his new fishing boat, and wow, what a nice boat it is!  Once it's in the water I'll take a picture of it.  I know you are just dying to see it! ;-D

So, I woke up this morning thinking we were leaving and The Husband said, "Let's stay one more night."  Fine by me!  One thing I'm not doing is cleaning!  I may go up to the big farmstand where they sell flowers and make some pots.  I'm debating whether to do tomatoes this year.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I never seem to get more than one or two on a plant the past couple of years.  We'll see.

And that's all I have for you now.  I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend.  The Husband is out trimming the boxwood hedges right now and I'm so excited because I'm going to try to make a wreath with the clippings.  I better go grab a rake!

XO,
Jane

Hello there! I reserved a nice little chunk of time this morning to return and read your blog posts ... the wedding, all the prep, your cabin, your decor touches ~ loved reading about all of it. I appreciate you and the zest you have for living.

So lovely. I do find that when we get away all I seem to do is clean.

As for tomatoes, I had the same problem. Last year I decided to start heirloom tomatoes from seed, I planted Black Krim. I will never go back now. They thrived and were the most delicious tomatoes I have ever had. Very juicy and lots of tomato not just seed. I started them this year a month ago and they will go into the garden very soon. I bought the heirloom seeds on Etsy.

You should give a a try you will do it every year.

Hope you are having nice weather,
Sue

LOL It sounds as if you bought this VACATION home so that you'd have something to CLEAN.

Stay yet another day; sit and read. Ah...

I think your daughter and friends should've hired a cleaning service for after they were done partying! Sheesh, just what you need is another house to clean. I think you'd better truly enjoy today...maybe a little puttering, gardening, and reading. Put your feet up! And don't forget a glass of wine. :-) I'll be emailing you later today...xoxo

Oh how very nice to have a lakehouse to escape to! I'm a clean freak too. I think it's because I can actually SEE my accomplishments when I'm done. :) Can't wait to see the boat! Did he name it? We're kind of strange and even name all our cars. LOL!

Wow! You've been so busy. Everything looks so good, clean and crisp! We're leaving for our lake house tomorrow morning for a couple of weeks. I'm hoping to find some fun things to do, if it's just rearranging a few things. Either way, I'll relax and enjoy the change of scenery. Have a great week!

Oh Janie, I loved this post!... I just wish I was there at your lakehouse too!... everything looks fabulous and I want your Hoosier cabinet!!!... your countertops look so pretty... yet not fussy... relaxing looking... yes, I want to see a pic of hubby's new boat... I am on this ocean~sea~lake kick right now... and boating has always been a big part of it for us too... glad you get to spend another night relaxing there... and YES, you need to plant tomatoes!... here's a little tip (you probably already know this but)... water, water water!!!... when we had our little farm, I would plant 36 tomato plants as I wanted to share with my sisters and have lots for salsa... my neighbor across the way was kind of a pompous guy (his wife called him the Oracle as he thought he knew EVERYTHING)... anyway, he told me I was giving my tomatoes too much water... he hardly ever watered his... come Harvest time, he had only a handful of puny little tomatoes on his and I had bushels and bushels of beauties!... I took him over a bushel of mine and told him they were from my "overwatered" tomatoes... ha ha ha... he couldn't believe it!... sooo, long story, but make sure they get LOTS of water and LOTS of sun!!!... I don't plant 36 anymore, but still do plant alot... xoxo Julie Marie

If I could escape to where there was a water view, I'd do it every chance I got. Things look so pretty and clean!

Did the kids think those towels were just going to wash themselves? Too bad they didn't bring them home to you, but at least you had the washer and dryer at the lake. Kids...they never grow up!

We just had a little shower, the first of whatever this mess is they say is coming. Are you supposed to get all the bad weather too. You know how much I love storms...not.

Spring cleaning, I love/hate it LOL. At least you get to do it at a nice getaway. Thanks for visiting!

We'll be heading to our place in a few days and I wish I had your enthusiasm for cleaning. It isn't cleaning in general that I dislike, it is cleaning the cottage. We are on the fence about some repairs and updates, needing some advice from a trustworthy contractor about some structural issues. Getting someone to show up there can be a difficult as a lunar landing.

The location and feel we have when we're there are still great so all is mostly well. I just can't imagine why people don't fall all over themselves trying to meet me, right?

Isn't it great to squeeze out another day and have a long weekend? We have a weekend home by a lake also and last week I left on Wednesday and hubs joined me on Friday and we came back yesterday. So I had five blissful days and must admit I did zero cleaning although the place needs it!

Sounds like a weekend place is not the only thing we have in common. My daughter recently got engaged so maybe you can give me some pointers ;).

Everything's AMUCK... I'm spring cleaning and everything gets moved and washed so everything's EveRyWHerE.... ;-D And, I am NOT kidding...

We live in a little "city" and the darn deer have eaten my tomatoes .... nearly every one.... for the past two years. Darn it all...

Big huggies!

Good Morning Jane Sweetie...
What a beautiful share. I love seeing your lake home. It speaks of love and peace. The perfect place to sit with a cup of lemonade or tea and just enjoy the surroundings. What a treasure you have there.

The hoosier cabinet is TDF. Jane I love it. I know there is one out there just waiting for me to discover it too. Yours is exquisite.

Don't you just love the kids? Always leaving some dirty laundry for us. LOL...

Can't wait to see the boat. Hope DH gets to feeling better soon, and can get back to his own self.

Have a glorious weekend sweet friend. Many hugs, smiles and much love, Sherry

I just love how cute your kitchen is in the lake house! You're like me and have to have things clean before you can rest. I'm afraid that if I had a second home, I would just worry myself to death with keeping it up all the time. It sounds nice though to have a place to go off to with a lake right outside your door! Can't wait to see the wreath you're going to try and make. Those wreaths are expensive, so to make your own will be nice!

Jane!
I have visited this post about five times.

Last week, I was a participant in my first blog party. With our anniversary and work...I became so behind on my blog comments.

I don't believe that I have ever seen this view of your Lake House kitchen before! It's darling!

I love the white shelves, with the sparkling clean glasses and dishes, the HOOD OVER THE STOVE, and THE HOOSIER CABINET! OMGoodness!

I was smiling, as you were writing about how the kids told you that they left it clean!

Glad to hear that you and The Husband were able to stay a little bit longer!

Mr D and I aren't planting a vegetable garden this year. We love going to the farmers markets.

Thank you for your anniversary wishes, and your address!
Enjoy the three day!
