CURTAIN SEARCH, A LITTLE COOKING AND SOME PAINTING

Good news...my new chairs are being delivered Saturday, my area rug was shipped, so we should be hanging curtains and putting the living room together over the weekend.  Other than the gallery wall, I still have a lot of decisions to make for that big open wall.  I think it will come to me once I see the furniture in place.  Now, I'm off to paint!

Joining Courtney for Feathered Nest Friday!  See you there!

XO,
Jane

I made my kitchen curtains with hemming tape. I do not sew. All done with a ruler and an iron. Just used a sheet (or fabric), an iron, a ruler, and wee curtain clips. If I can do it anybody can. I love stuffed peppers but never make them. xo, Olive

I've ordered from Country Curtains many times. I have valances on all the windows in my house. Some rooms have blinds along with valances. They came from Country Curtains too.

When my dogs were sick...I fixed the same ground beef and rice mixture for them.

I didn't tell you yet that I really like your new look here on your blog. So clean and fresh looking.

I hope your husband feels better soon.

Oh I too love stuffed green peppers and our Mom made them often while growing up. I know what you mean about what hubby will and will not notice kinda funny! I really don't have curtains in my house just blinds! Good Luck ! Hugs, Diane

I have to laugh about the curtains because I have nekked windows for the same reason. I knew I liked you, Janie.

The white curtains are cute, but I understand wanting something a little different. I have white one sin a cottage kitchen, but I had to put one panel in the bottom. That's all I could handle. I was eying country curtains the other day in case I have to replace this at some point.

Love the peppers. My mother used to fix those, too. And Happy Birthday to Emily!

XO,

Sheila

Sure sounds like you've been busy Jane! Love the half and half cake and I was actually thinking about stuffed peppers for Sunday's dinner myself:@)

Hi Jane... I have ordered from Country Curtains for years too, back when we had our little farm, and still do... did you know they will alter their curtains for you?... yep, that might be a way to get what you want without having to sew them yourself... that chocolate and vanilla cake looks yummy and so do your stuffed peppers, my favorite!... can't wait to see your little end table when you paint it... hope hubby is feeling better... xoxo Julie Marie

Well that is a bummer that you didn't like the new curtains. Maybe you could sell them on Ebay or Craigslist if you wanted to get some money back? The curtains that you like that are too long, maybe you could hem them with that iron on stuff (I can't think of the name right now). That is exciting that new furniture and rug are on the way! Hope you love them! I'm looking forward to seeing your little table painted. I think you're going to give it new life. :)

You know the curtains I just put in my dining room? Country Curtains lined them for me..I just had to pay a little extra. Maybe they would hem them for you? Oh I just read Olive's idea about hem tape. That would work! I've done it lots of times and no one will know.

I do the same thing with curtains, I go crazy over them. I can't wait to see your livingroom and the chairs and rug!!!

Love your new header Jane! Do you have to hand sew the hems? Can you use iron on hem tape or something? I know all about things snowballing. Seems like once you change one thing, everything else needs changing. I think you chocolate/vanilla cake idea was brilliant. Any left? :) xoxo

Those green peppers are beautiful! I can only find ones half that size. The white and chocolate cake was a cute idea, too! I also can't wait to see your painted table transformation!

For what it's worth, I absolutely love your white and brown ticking stripe curtains in your dining room window. You said the ticking was hard to see in the photo, but if you click on the photos in your blog, it shows a larger photo. (Did you know you can make your photos larger in blogger when you're writing your post?) I know what you mean about getting tired of things though. You know I share your curtain dilemma! ;-)

I haven't had stuffed peppers in ages. Thanks for the dinner idea! I think this is something even picky Tim would like. Do you make a tomato sauce to put over them, too? That's how my grandma always made them.

xoxo

I have no curtains up! LOL!!! Check out curtainworks.com, they have some great looks!

Lisa @ Texas Decor said...

I really like the original curtains. :) But I can certainly understand wanting something new. Maybe you could sell the ones that you don't like. I've heard of that hemming tape, but I don't know a single thing about sewing. I can't even sew on a button. Ha! Those peppers look delicious! I love stuffed peppers too, but I haven't made them in ages.

Hi Jane,
Maybe you can sell your curtains and at least get some of your money back. The table will be cute painted.

Take Care!!

1st... really like the new look to the blog.. then if I lived closer, I would gladly hem the curtains for you, but I kind of like the windows open, no curtains... how about just a valance & blinds, if you need privacy (or roman shades )
And can't wait to see the new living room + the painted table.. what color will you do? (I personally love painted furniture)
& I would LOVE your recipe for stuffed peppers, I have never made them, yours look delicious

HI Jane, It looks like you have some fun projects in the works:). Curtains are very hard, If you really like that fabric & style then I would try to hemm them, hire a tailor or get that seam tape. I had a window like that I just did shdes, Anyways, good luck!

Yes, it lloks like bloglovin is an email. I know I love the blogroll too. I like Google +, they give you notices through email but also right at the top of your blog where they have the icon.

Have a great day & I hope yo continue to follow alaong:) Jen @ City Farmhouse.

Love that table, can't wait to see the AFTER Pic:) I have trouble with curtains too. I am really in the mood to change out my kitchen curtains on my bay window. I made the ones that are up now and they really need a fresh new look! Have a blessed day dear friend. The weekend sounds like fun with the new chairs:) HUGS!

Vicki @ lifeinmyemptynest said...

I bet you could have some simple curtains made in the fabric you want for not much more than it would cost to buy some and then pay to have them hemmed. If I lived closer, I could help you make some :-)

Betty@SouthernGrace said...

I do like the idea of cafe curtains in the bay window as I am always struggling with what to put in my bay window in the breakfast room. I just have top valances up now since there is only woods behind us, but I don't like seeing myself in the refection at night as I am at the table eating when it is dark outside! HA.

Tricia said...

That's too bad about your curtains. Have you ever thought about shutters? You could do them just part way up the window and then have a little valance on the top. I have shutters in a few of my rooms and i love them! They're really wide ones, so if I flip them open I can still see outside really well. I like that they always look good no matter the decor too. That little table is so cute! It will look great painted :)

I am with the couple of people that mentioned iron on hem tape, if you are able to sew. I love stuffed peppers. I use red peppers and Italian sausage and grated zucchini. My recipe is on my From Harvest To Table blog.

Looking forward to seeing your living room.

I buy tab curtains from Ikea and let them fall as they may. Hilarious that your husband doesn't notice the lack of curtains and the side table in the living room. Of course, I rearranged a wall in the living room in December when my sister-in-law gifted us with a pencil drawing of her father. It was 3 days before my husband noticed I had hung it up and only then because I said "notice anything different?" :/ When it comes to decorating, I just go for it and don't think too much. :) Have a great day. Tammy

Oh! My ex-MIL had poodles who she cooked ground beef, rice and green peas for. They had sensitive stomachs and that's all they could eat. :)

Blondie, I am excited for you to get your livingroom done. The bare windows makes me laugh..out here, I have few cutains. blinds to close on the road side. nothing covering the windows in the back..the curtains are pulled aside. I love sheers and lace. I guess I want the light in my house. Besides any window peepers are in for a shock.LOL.xoxo,Susie

Yes! I stress over curtains. I finally decided on some for my bedroom and bathroom. Then I had to lower the rods, make new holes, paint the previous holes, iron the stupid curtains... by the time I was finished.. they were stupid curtains lol!
Those peppers look so good! I haven't thought to make stuffed peppers in a long time.

chateau chic said...

I think bay windows are very hard when it comes to window treatments. I have one in my living room and I've lost count of the number of times I've changed the curtains.
If you have a window sill, have you thought of installing shutters to go half way up and then a valance across the top?

You are a busy lady - that little table will be a nice addition.

You are a busy lady. Every time I hang curtains I think I should have gone in a different direction ha ha. I have a few packs of rejects. I keep them because I always think I'm going to do something with them ha! Good luck getting your room together at least you're making progress.

Yes, curtains and rugs are the bane of my existence. Expensive enough that I feel the pressure to get it right the first time which makes me just certain I am getting it all wrong. Country curtains does have some beauties to choose from, but how to choose!
Fun to find a project in the basement, I can see it painted and I think it will be darling:>)

lovey curtains and I think we all need a change once in a while, I think its so funny the way husband don't notice things!Garry may notice things but not until long after the fact, I would love to paint my dining room set but he is against it, maybe I should just do it, he might not notice,

Val said...

I love Country Curtains too. I want their buffalo check in black for our bedroom, but I just haven't forked over the money yet. Their curtains are worth it, but it's a chunk of change for me, for sure.

"So the window remains curtainless and it's only a matter of days (or weeks) before The Husband notices. He's observant like that." made me snort. :) Yessssssssssss. This kind of comment is one my mom and I have made many times, like all the times she stressed for weeks about whether or not to perm (or cut or whatever) her hair, then would finally work up the nerve to do it, wait eagerly for Dad to come home from work and comment on it....And then it would become an annoyed game of "How Long Should I Let Your Dad Go Without Noticing This On His Own, Before I Just Tell Him?!" Sigh. :)

And your window and that whole area of your rooms looks really cozy. Gorgeous windows. I hope you figure out what works for you.

And the cake is adorable, like a giant New York bakery-style "black and white cookie." :)

Your stuffed peppers look good, Janie. I justordered drapes from JCP on line for the living room sliding doors here in Fl. It freaks me out everytime I pass by the LR at night when it is so dark outside, I always feel like someone is watching me. Funny why I don't feel that in Natchez, when it is lined with sliding doors too without curtains. Anyway, I hope Al feels better and I like your curtains. I like light curtains especially for summer.....Christine

Well it's the weekend so it all must be coming together. I do hope you get the window hangings you want for that area. It's such a pretty window I'd almost say leave it open but I'm sure you want privacy with coverings. I used to pour over those country curtain magazines.

Jane, sounds like everything is coming together. Now days the only sewing I pretty much do is curtains. I agree, it is hard to decide. Hemming tape is a great idea if you found the perfect fabric or even fabric glue.

I love your black and white cake - my hubby would love that as he loves the black and white cookies!

I like the ikea white drapes with large rings in them, I like them because they are 39.oo a pair and do not have a hem, so i just hang them and pin them while they are up and press when pins are and just baste the bottom and press into place all while the drapes are up...these ikea drapes are designers go drapes and adesigner secetet, my friend turned me on to them and the quality is a 10...love your new banner, wow it looks so beautifl and I also love the way the room is turning out and anyway I bet you would be a great sewer and I bet you would love it for sure...take care sweetie and keep paintin that furniture...lol

Spending this lazy Sunday morning catching up with what my blogging pals have been up to whilst I've been sick. Sounds like there's lots going on at your place as always. Not sure how long you've had the new header but I love it.
Hope all your furniture arrived on time and looking forward to seeing the reveal soon.

I grew up on stuffed peppers...and we still love them. Yours looks fabulous...and I am totally lovin' that black and white cake. :)) Bet it was delicious.
I am not a curtain person...none in the whole house except for sheers in the dining room.
So, for your windows, I vote for Plantation Shutters (if budget allows)...if not Plantation Blinds, which is what I have on most of my windows (if I could afford them, I'd have plantation shutters on ALL my windows)...but then, that's just me. :)))

And I love that fabric you have picked out as well.
So funny about Al not noticing although I have to say it does seem to be a guy trait!

Awww your cake is just beautiful and what a great idea to frost it special like that for the birthday. It looks good too!

I have ordered curtains from Country Curtains too, so many years ago, and now I want to order some window shades with the lace bottoms from them. I think you should just get the curtains you really want and get them hemmed. Just my thoughts though.

Mmmmmm love the green peppers too! They look so good!

The little table looks like the perfect candidate for painting! I can't wait to see what you do with it!

SmilingSally said...

Window treatments do take a great deal of thought. I have some curtainless windows ON PURPOSE! I'd rather see my view than see a piece of material. However, if you don't like others peeking in . . .

I think you should take a deep breath and order the ones you want. Pay to have them fitted. They'll last forever, and you'll be happy.

I know curtains and drapes can be so frustrating! Our current home had wooden blinds on the windows which we are grateful for, but it's hard to figure out if we want curtains or not. They just add such warmth and coziness to a room so I miss them!

I just love your cake! What a great idea. I'm often torn between vanilla and chocolate so this is such an awesome idea! :)
