HO HO HO. IS IT REALLY OVER?

After Christmas Day brunch, I spent the afternoon making a festive dinner.  I didn't want any help since this was the first dinner I have made in ages, as we usually celebrate where someone else is doing the cooking. :)  I had ordered a huge prime rib roast from the butcher.  He trimmed the fat and saved it for me as I was trying a new recipe.  Fresh herbs were patted on the roast and then strips of fat went over that.  It keeps the roast moist.  While that was in the oven I made mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and asparagus with homemade Hollandaise sauce.  I had a recipe for Cheddar biscuits but forgot to get buttermilk so that was scratched.  I was a bit flustered that I took on so many first time ideas and also that Abby had to work at 7:00 (who goes to a bar on Christmas night?) and Jeff had plans as well (in fact he showed up at the pub Abby works at, so we now know who goes to bars on Christmas night!).  So...dinner was served on time at 6:00, everyone was happy and enjoyed it and of course, I forgot to take pictures of the table!  Needless to say, I was snuggled up in bed with a book by 9:00, just so happy and content and sort of relieved all the fussing this month was over!!

I didn't get to rest long.  We were up bright and early and downtown the next day for The Husband's post op exam.  His doctor is the sweetest lady.  She was as happy as we were that he is doing so well!  His next appointment is in mid January and they will talk about when he can go back to work.  He is just now starting to work out of our home office.

Well, that's all I have for now.  After this trip to the store and then heating up leftovers, I think I am going to put my PJ's on and stay that way for a few days!

Warm wishes to all of you!

Hi Jane,

Sounds like you had a lovely time with family over the holidays. And yes your dinner that you made sounds delicious, I love yorkshire pudding....You can substitute milk with lemon for the buttermilk, I think.

Your wreath is beautiful, is that made from felt? I think I saw it on their site. So glad that your husband's health is going fine.

Happy New Year to you!

I bet you are breathing a sigh of relief for making it through the surgery and through Christmas. It all seems to line up doesn't it. Sounds like a fun few days for you and your family. I remember how it was when the kids were grownup before they started their families. There was alot of coming and going. Glad your hubby is doing so well. Stay warm and stay in those jammies. I know I have been. Headed out in the cold to meet our Colorado kids for dinner in the village.

Glad to hear your hubby is doing well. I love seeing your family photos and various decorations.

Christmas day was at my younger son's home, but we did have leftovers from a few meals before Christmas. I am ready to fix something else today, and I can't believe I am saying this, but I am done with cookies for a while! The first bite tastes good but I follow up with second, third and fourth until they are gone and then I feel sluggish afterward.

I am with you Jane...christmas night I was so worn out that I didn't even clean up the feast table. The next day I just stayed in my jammies all day and took my time cleaning up everything. Sounds like your Christmas was just pure perfection and I am so glad the husband is doing so well. :) The new baby came a few hours ago. He's big. The new Mom had a rough go of it but all's well now. Her Mom will be with them for a while so it will be at least a week (I think) before we travel up to see them. Can't wait! Happy happy New Year. xoxo

Sounds so nice...and looks very warm and inviting too! I'm sure your meal was out of this world. Next time you find yourself without buttermilk, use 1 T. vinegar or lemon juice and fill the rest of the cup with regular milk to make 1 cup.

Hope you're warm & enjoying the PJ's! I love being in mine.
