HAPPY SEPTEMBER!

We went up to the lake for a short stay in spite of the fact that it was a long weekend.  People everywhere were having their last hurrah.  The house and garden were in tip top shape after all the loving they got while we were there for 2 weeks, we had nothing but time to sit and relax.  I took some pictures of my plants that were re-blooming (I had to use my phone...forgot to get camera batteries again!).  I was so surprised to see my climbing rose with a bloom and a few buds.  Now at least I know it blooms twice a summer!

The end of the season makes me feel the way I did when spring was turning to summer, a time to refresh and renew the house.  I've been trying to come up with some inspiration for my mantel, something fall-like, but sans the pumpkins and other fall decorations...I'm just not ready yet.  I made some small changes in the bedroom, I brought in some berry colors to brighten up all the whites I had for the summer, new curtains and a throw and pillows from Pottery Barn.  I'd share a picture but I still have an air conditioning unit in the window that isn't too pretty!  You have to love old houses!  Anyway, I am trying to get caught up on the laundry, make room in my dressers and closet for fall clothes to be switched out, looking through my cookbooks for some great comfort foods to make in the upcoming weeks, and yes, I will have to get outside and throw away those dead plants!  It's almost time for mums!  Are you getting ready for fall, too?

Have a great week and thanks always for visiting! :)

The flats are darling. I can't wear them. I do wear sandals until November here however. I have lost plants too and always do. We have moles and I have murderous thoughts. You may need a tad more sun for sweet potato vine. I think they like this awful heat here. Gardening is so much about soil and knowing what will grow where. I am an old country gardener myself and wing it 90% of the time. Have a terrific week Jane. xoxo, Olive

Hi Jane!
Your flowers look so pretty...mine have all but faded away. Sniff, sniff. It's still hot as blazes here in Georgia...I think summer is going to linger on awhile longer.

Happy September to you Jane! The yellow flats are adorable and I bet they look so cute on you! My flowers have all but died too and I am avoiding them when I drive into the driveway. I guess I will have to get to them soon... XO Cindy

Hi Jane and Happy September. The yellow flat are adorable. Labor Day seems to mark the end of Summer, but it's still so hot here, it's hard to get in the mood for Fall.

Happy September Jane, I hear ya, want to put out a little Fall decor but not to sure where to start. Your big ferns are so pretty, love them. Sad to leave the lake, we will still go till the middle of Oct, then the power gets turned off. Love the yellow flats also, might just have to go pay a visit to Old Navy, tee hee. Blessings Francine.

So glad that September is here and the tems will be cooling down. They have been at night but still hot and so humid during the day.
Why is it the weeds don't die but our flowers do.
Love your shoes.

Jane I can really relate to this post. I'm feeling the tug to embrace fall too, just not quite yet. And we removed some dead flowers that were way past due for leaving this past weekend. I love the flats, and I love your daisies...hands down one of my favorite flowers. Those ferns are gorgeous, I'm glad you will be tending to them all winter.

Love those flats. I am glad you had a restful time at the lake house. It is crazy this time of year around most lake front properties, isn't it?

I am going to try to overwinter my ferns this year, too. We'll see how that works out.

I am getting ready to start digging out the Fall stuff, I guess. We have out of state company coming for almost a week so I need to "get busy". Blessings- xo Diana

Little by little I'm getting ready for Fall, Jane. I can't really get fully into it when the temps and humidity are still so high.

Happy September to you! No I can't believe Fall is around the corner.....I actually am not ready yet due to the high temps down here in the South....Pumpkins wont be available to pick here until October 10. So my decor won't be done until then. I am glad you were able to relax at your lake home.

Have a great week.

I just bought a pair of flats, too, Jane! Love them with my leggins and boho tops. :) As much as I love summer...this one has been so hot and dry and humid, that I'm ready for some crisp, cool autumn weather. My flowers have just about bit the dust. :) Fall chores are right around the corner here, too!

I'm ready for some fall weather, but like you, I'm not ready to put out the pumpkins.

Your new flats are very cute. Isn't it fun to get something new?

I can hardly believe that it is September. I'm not quite ready for changing leaves and pumpkins!

I took my hanging baskets down yesterday ~ it has been so dry and although we have been diligent in watering them all summer ~ they have really had the biscuit! I bought new flats last week too ~ there are so many cute ones out there to choose from ~ the 80's are back. Have a great week Janie. xo

Those little flats were popular when I was in high school. We called them ballerinas and we had to have a color to match each of our favorite outfits. I was working part time my last year of high school so I managed a white pair and a black pair. I really envied the girls that had all of the different colors.

I sure am ready for fall, Jane! While I'm always a bit sad to see summer and spending time on the lake come to an end, it's been so darn hot here that cool weather sounds good to me! And so does comfort food:) Have a great week!

Marshall's and TJ Maxx both do big time damage to my resolve. I got the cutest zebra flats there the other day. I like yours too! Usually, I get my fall things out the first week in September, but so far this week, I haven't done one fall thing! Our grass is growing like crazy again and I feel like we are having a bit of summer now minus the 100+ temps!

The absolute best time for making the house cozy. I love it. Delicious aromas coming from the kitchen. A warm, soft throw on the couch.
I look forward to seeing your mantle.

Our time at our cottage is on the wane also . . . this was the 1st year we spent almost the entire summer in Maine!!! It was wonderful! We'll take some weekend trips too and then monthly trips as the snow flies!

Your flowers are beautiful!!! Nice that you got out of Marshalls with your wallet still in tact! LOL!!!

I think flats are so cute, but I can't wear them as they hurt my feet. I have really high arches, so I'm assuming that's the reason why. Like you, I'm not ready to put out any fall decorations, especially not pumpkins. I'm still holding onto summer as long as I can!

Oh the flats are too cute, Jane! It is fun to get the gears rolling for all the great things this time of year bring. We still have some HEAT to deal with the rest of this month, but at least the end is in sight.

Love the flats, Jane!
I am just NOT ready for Fall. I've been sitting out on the dock, reading, and lounging by the water. I hate the thought of having to bring in the furniture off the dock. I love watching the boats go by, and just looking down into the water to see the fish, and turtles swim so close.
The window boxes aren't as pretty this time of year...but I can't bare to pull them apart. Maybe if I add some pumpkins, and gourds it would be okay...sniff.
I'm hoping for a LONG Indian Summer.

I haven't done any Fall decorating yet, just adding some warmer colors to the house. Sounds like you had a wonderful time at the lake house. Isn't it nice to actually just relax there instead of working there for a change? My mom has a lake house and she is always working on hers too it seems. I guess that's the nature of a second home when you're not there all the time. We're supposed to get cooler weather next week, here in GA. Fingers crossed. It has been VERY humid and hot these last few days (since Issac).

Your new flats are sure cute. I love it when there is a pop of color at one's feet! :-) We are seeing some new blooms with the onset of every so slightly cooler temperatures. I was even able to pick a small nosegay of flowers for our dinner table last night.

The new header I have is just a shot of the shelf over the microwave in our kitchen! Just looking for something new on the blog. Not crazy about the fake pumpkin but it's in such a spot I don't have to see it too much! I really like to buy the cheap little cooking pumpkins. They are a nice spot of fall color. Hope you're having a nice weekend and decent weather!

Everything does feel new in the fall. I suppose it's the change of season but also the start of the school year, even if I'm not a student or teaching any longer!

I am getting ready for fall but very slowly. I don't usually bring my ferns in...but maybe I will this year. I had 2 beautiful plants on my deck but one got destroyed recently during a storm. I suppose I should save the other one. :o)

Your flowers look so pretty. The only ones that I have left are in the urns right outside my door. It's starting to feel a bit like Fall here too so I guess it will be time for a change anyway. Those flats are so cute! I went to Marshalls last week for the first time ever! Can you believe it?! Nothing for me, but they sure had some cute little girl shoes :)

Hello Jane ~ Happy September . . . I love Fall too ~ and your new flats, so CUTE!!
I'm glad your temps are cooling a bit, still a few more days in the 80's and 90's for us in parts of the Pac. NW, but thankfully it cools off very nicely overnight. There is a definite change in the air at this time of year.
I hope you have a lovely day! xo~m.

Hi! Did you think I fell off the planet? I've just had too many things using up all my brain cells and seem to have been spending any free time staring at the tv or playing mindless games on my iPad.

Two weeks at the lake sounds like heaven! We are heading to Michigan for a week very soon and I can't wait. I'm ready for some R&R and some beautiful nature. Often it rains on us, but this time we are staying an entire week so we hopefully will have some pretty days. I did get out my fall things last weekend, bought mums and tried to get in the mood. I do love the cooler temps.
