THIS & THAT

The dog days of summer are winding down and I am trying to buckle up and get busy around here.  I've been spending a lot of time in the cool air conditioning, devouring book after book.  Did you know Target has one of the best selections of soft cover books?  It never fails that I find one or two when I'm there.  I alternate reading books and using my Nook...both are fine for me.  I'm in the middle of a good one now and I race to get the dinner dishes done so I can get back to it in the evenings!

We had a terrible weekend with first the heat and humidity and then rain.  We were cooped up in the house reading and watching movies.  I'm looking forward to the end of the heat, when I can throw open my windows and have some fresh air.  The Husband has had such a sweet tooth lately and has been binging on Twinkies and Hostess Cupcakes and ice cream.  Pure poison!  I want to bake for him but I'm avoiding using the oven.  That has me looking forward to fall, fresh baked sweets, slow cooked soups and the smell of woodsmoke in the air.  I think I may even decorate for fall early!  And I have some ideas for some tablescapes as well as a simple bedroom updo that I worked on last week.  But after I finish this book!  See all of you soon! :)

No I never noticed books in Target, I am usually in the other departments. It is very humid where I live now and just keeping cool in the A/C. Also looking forward to cooler temps. Have a great week.

I never tire of weddings Jane. I feel/pray for New Orleans but we are getting cool temps and a lovely slow steady rain. It makes for a nice rainy day here.I have dusted our enormous bookcase whilst in my pj's. I love to read too and have found a bookstore that trades my used books and I can then buy new or used books. I am having fun with that. xoxo, Olive

I think we are all kind of waiting for this Summer to end, Jane. It wasn't very enjoyable at all. I took one of the books you recommended a month or so ago out of the library - The Secret Garden by Kate Morton and just finished it the other day. It was very good. Any time you want to recommend any others, I'm listening!

Hi Jane, You can continue to talk wedding until that magical day. It brought back the memories of going dress shopping with my daughter, hunting my dress and all the other plans. So much more to do when the daughter gets married, then a son.
Happy anniversary to your son and his wife. I can't believe it has been a year already. My how the time is flying. We had a little rain over the weekend. My son has left New Orleans inland to get away from Issac. It was mandatory.
Have a wonderful rest of the week. I am so ready for fall. Hugs Your Missouri Friend.

Congrats to the newlyweds & the upcoming newlyweds. Your daughters dress is awesome, she will look like a queen.

I know I'm way behind in keeping up, but when the weather keeps me in I'll be doing more. We have truly been swamped with a redo & the influx of feedsack fabrics.

Have a beautiful holiday weekend ~

I love reading your slice-of-life posts, Jane! I'm totally with you on eagerly awaiting fall's arrival here, too. You can tell there's a subtle change in the air and it is nice that the evenings are a touch cooler. Good luck with the continued wedding planning!

Melanie said...

You must tell us the name of these hard-to-put-down books that you're reading! Yes, Target does have a pretty good selection of books, but they're usually cheaper on amazon - or free at your library!

As much as I love summer, I am looking forward to some cooler weather, too. I love when we can turn off the AC & open the windows to let in the fresh air.

Tell The Husband to quit eating Twinkies and Hostess Cupcakes - SO bad for him! Like you said, pure poison. Nothing but chemicals and preservatives. Tell him you want him to stay healthy!

I hope we'll be hearing more about the wedding plans! My daughter is getting married in Dec. and I love hearing how your plans are coming together.

You're making is sound not so bad that fall is just around the corner...

Hi darling, what happy times you're having. She's going to be a beautiful bride. The dress is stunning.
I'm sure many are as tired of the ins. saga as I am, I guess putting on the blog as reference and journal is my only outlet short of blowing a cork. The lack of professionalism has been unbelievable. I hope you have a super w/k. hugs ~lynne~

I can't wait to help plan my daughter's wedding! She's 19 though so I'll have to wait a few years but I can't wait! She's dating a new guy and I'm already thinking about what her dress will look like. That's pretty bad. I just love weddings! I painted a larger version of the pier with the girl and the umbrella. It's a 24x30! Have a great weekend Jane...I hope it cools off a little for you. I can definitely feel fall in the air this morning.

Wow, it seems like yesterday that we read your posts about your son's wedding, Jane. And how special that you got to view an engagement album from your daughter. Such anticipation...enjoy these times, and those books!

Hi Jane!
I haven't been here in forever.
so...I read all your posts to catch up on what you've been up to.
Looks like you've had a fun, and busy summer.
LOVE the dress your sweet daughter has picked out for her wedding!!!
The photo from this post is precious!
Summer has zipped by, and I'm sad to see it go. The leaves are turning here at the lakehouse, and it makes me dread what's coming next.
Did you have a good Labor Day weekend?
I was outside the whole time! Sitting on the dock next to the water...reading a book.
Your new outside fire place is awesome! We would love something like that here.
I know what you mean about cooking season coming up. Yesterday I made a ham dinner with all the fixin's. Jim was in Heaven..lol.
Enjoy the last fleeting moments of summer-time, my dear.
Big hugs.
