A HAIR DILEMMA

Consider this a cry for help. I'm on a mission.
I have never downloaded pictures from the web for a post, but I have a lot of soul searching to do and a lot of decision making. It has me tearing out my hair and tearing up at the slightest mention of the dilemma. I have been looking inward and outward and I finally decided to share my grief with you. It takes a lot for me to admit...I just don't know what to do with my hair for this wedding.

This is Adele, my idol. A beautiful and soulful singer from the U.K. She's on my playlist a lot, maybe even now as you are reading this. I want to be her when I grow up. Oh, that's childish, I just want to be her now. Her fair skin, her perfect hair, her false eyelashes...
I could use some false eyelashes, and you know? I may just get them. We are having our make up and hair done professionally the morning of the big day. The make up artist does the most beautiful and natural eyelashes, and as you can see, I need a little help in that department. I'm not looking for anything huge, I'm not going to cause a breeze in any one's face as I speak to them, I just want to jazz things up a bit. And I feel I have gotten into a rut with my make up over the years; same old, same old. So I'm going to break out of the mold and go glam. Now, for the hair...
Here's Adele again. Did I mention I adore her? Well she wears her hair back combed up in a little pouf and then in a long ponytail. I love this look. Of course I will need bullet proof hairspray, but it will be worth it if my eyelashes are making the wind stir up. I thought maybe of wearing it half up and half down, but the neckline of my dress is very pretty from the back, so I want it to show. Decisions. I mentioned I am on a mission, didn't I?
I happened to stop by a blog called My Sweet Savannah today and she was showcasing some hairstyles. This is a variation of Adele's. A little looser and flowing, I don't know about the flower. What do you think?

I've really opened my heart up here and it feels good. I know you ladies listen and you were oh so complimentary about my new dress. This will probably be the last I post about the wedding. Friday, The Husband and I leave for a quiet 2 week respite up at the lake. I plan to do nothing but lie on the boat, ride my bike or kayak. Just peaceful bliss. So I need to tie up loose ends {or strands as it may be}, so I can be at peace at last. Comments please? :-)

Go for it Jane!! Also, the makeup artist can add a few eyelashes to your own and no one will ever know. Very glamorous! My daughter had lashes added for her wedding and it really made her blue eyes shine! Made my brown eyes shine too....oh...sorry, my shine came from mother of the bride tears.LOL

Janie, first, take a deep breath...everything will be okay. Let the professionals do their stuff. Do you trust them? Then go for it.

You will be beautiful. You know you will.

Sending you a hug,

Yes, I say the last photo, Jane...so pretty! And I think false eyelashes are fine, too! Just be sure you have on plenty of lipstick! I had my make-up done before my daughter's wedding and they really pushed me outside of my comfort zone in the bright lipstick department...and they were right! I needed it for the wedding pics! Just a thought...hugs...Debbie

Hi Jane,
No matter what you do with your hair or your lashes, you will be beautiful, because you already are.
I think your hair will look very pretty up and with flowers intertwined.

Hi Jane!

You are such a busy girl these days. I love the hairdo; it is modern, sophisticated, and feminine. PERFECT!

I think I missed the post with the dress. I'm off to find it.

I love Adele too! I think your hair would look lovely with some up and some down. Is the person doing your hair someone who knows you and your hair?

I think that would look really pretty, Jane. Have you played around holding your hair up or pinning to see if you like the look? Love the idea of false lashes. I can't tell you how many times I'd have liked to try them. Most of the time when we go some place like a wedding, I just do my regular make-up but maybe with a smokey eye. If I do much more than my usual, I don't feel like I look like myself. Oh, and I think a flower or two would look lovely.

Go for the lashes, Jane! You'll feel so glamorous!
I love the hairstyle but think the flowers wouldn't go with your dress, is which is quite sophisticated. I think that you could just have your stylist use a bit of jeweled frou-frou something-or-other, or just some of your own hair, twisted around where the flowers are - or a bit of silk gauze in the same shade as your dress. Have fun!

Love that pic, I think you will look gorgeous no matter what you decide, but this is a very pretty style. I love the idea of flowers in your hair too :)

I say go for the eyelashes. Have the makeup artist play your eyes up for your son's big day. You will look FABULOUS! I love the dress you have selected. I think it's very appropriate as the mother of the groom. Very classy, elegant, and sophisticated. Since you want to have the beautiful back of the dress seen too, I'd have a loose french twist done with wispy pieces escaping the twist. Have the hair lifted in the crown some when put upbbecause it's supposed to lift the face and eyes....I say this because I need that! I would not use flowers because of the elegance and style of your dress. Oh, this is going to be so fun. Can't wait to see pictures of the gorgeous affair and fabulous YOU!!

Sorry, no specific style, but whatever you want to try . . . I would say try it early for a day or two and make sure you like it.

Also remember all those photos . . . it has to look good from the front.

That is all I know. :-) Except, you are already gorgeous . . . you will be fine.

Fondly,
Glenda

Hi Jane, I have been both the mother of the bride and mother of the groom. Has your beautican done your hair before and do you trust her judgement. I can see a pretty hair piece in an up style. You are so pretty anyway, but I know how you feel about wanting to look your best because you are on display as I called it too. Just have a relaxing couple of weeks and enjoy yourself. You will do just fine. Take care Your Missouri Friend.

I say go for the eyelashes and cause a stir!! I love a classic french twist ~ would it not be too cool to have a vintage comb or broach in it? Just a thought since you said your dress has some detailing in the back too?? Have a relaxing time at the lake. xo

I love it. Love the flower, love the loose look. Would be an awesome compliment to your dress... just the right accent. GO FOR IT.

Your hair looks so beautiful Jane and that pony tail style is so pretty!
My daughter just recently got some false eyelashes to wear once in a while and she loves them! Apparently very easy to use too!
Oh have fun at the wedding and enjoy your time away!!!
Take lots of pics too!!
xo

You already are so pretty but yes do the lashes and test drive your hair w/ someone before the big day. Nothing wrong w/ some help, I wouldn't even think twice about it.

Absolutely go for the lashes--they are so glamorous and chic! Wouldn't a gardenia be beautiful in your hair--fragrant too!

I say go for the lashes, Jane! Just try them out before the wedding to make sure you like it and you're comfortable with them. I'm sure that no matter what hairstyle you choose you're going to look beautiful, so don't worry. I kind of like a loose hairstyle myself. When I got married, they put two ponytails in the back of my hair and curled it a little so it looked all flowy. I loved it. It felt so feminine and pretty.

I think you should do the lashes then pull the hair up or back so we can see them! Love the dress. Just visited your last post. Gorgeous color too. So glad you like it. I say add a flower to your hair too as long as the bride is not doing the same. Let the pros make suggestions and get what you want. xoxo Hope all goes well

Debbiedoos said...

Yes on the falsies you will love them for the day. Your eyes are pretty to begin with and they will just POP out. As for the hair, hmmmm...I am always in hair dilemma. I like the lose flowing look in that picture.

Sue said...

My only suggestion is that you don't do anything that you aren't comfortable with. If you are going to do eyelashes...have a practice day first. If you are going to wear a different hairstyle...do a run through. The last thing you want to be doing is tugging at your hair or walking around feeling like your eyes are going to fall out. I think you will look gorgeous whatever you decide!

Lori E said...

I suggest nothing hanging in the hair or maybe the smallest thing because by the middle of the dinner it will be falling out and dragging all your hair down with it.
Just relax and enjoy the moments of the day.

Hi Jane! I like that last photo. I've been seeing these hairstyles gathered at the nape of the neck and think they are flattering to almost everyone. I like more of a knot though, and just a bit smaller flowers. It'll show off your new pretty lashes. It's so great to hear from you now and then. I've had a lot less time for visiting this summer and have some catching up to do. I hope you have a wonderful relaxing time.

Kerry said...

I love that hairstyle. Go for it Jane, but probably not the flower..that looks a bit bridal. A beautiful glam clip, perhaps a lovely brooch you already have that could somehow be attached? Whatever you do, you must have fun with it:)
enjoy a wonderful relax at the lake x

I think the stylist can help. She'll tell you if that style is suitable for you and your type of hair, etc.

I am famous for bringing photos of hair styles I want to my hairdresser only to be told my hair is too thick!

Debi said...

Go for it. Nothing is permanent, is it? My daughter always wanted to try hair extensions. Forever, that's all I've heard about. So... she did it. It looked really pretty and SO real. But, after about a month, she had them taken out. But she tried it. So, go on ... step out of the box. Let us know how it all looks. Enjoy the down time too. Debi

Hi Jane,
Yes to the eyelashes, they will make you feel so glamourous.
The last hairstyle image is lovely, so if your hair is long enough then go for it, maybe just the one flower though?
Whatever you decide I'm sure you'll look great!

I love the look of the pouffy pony tail! When I got married I had some single eyelashes added to my own. They use an adhesive and add them carefully one by one! I loved how it looked and it lasted for a few days until they fell out~kind of like cinderellas coach turning back into a pumpkin! But the nice thing was you couldn't tell that they were added, they looked and felt so real!! My hair salon had a makeup lady who did it for me.

Theresa said...

The older I get, the more different I NEED my hair to be! It just happens that I KEEP the same hair no matter how hard I try to change it, SO I get what you are staying:) I love the last picture and I think that will look beautiful on you!

Enjoy your day, your weekend with your fella and the wedding! HUGS!

I love that hairdo! The flowers really dress it up! And speaking of dresses, the one you chose is gorgeous. And, yes, go for a few individual lashes to add to your own.

I can't wait to see photos after the wedding.

Looks like an easy enough hair style and is pretty. Have you heard of lash extensions? They last several months and you don't have to(can't) wear mascara with them. They look like your own eyelashes, only longer and fuller! Have fun at the lake!

Anonymous said...

It's so wise of you, to get all these decisions made, ahead of time!

The hairdo is lovely.

My first idea is.... Take the picture to who ever will be doing your hair that day, and ask them. Perhaps even have it done thus, now.... And see how you like it, in Real Life. Maybe?

Of course you go for the makeup artist. Who will certainly know how to do a lovely job of it. :-)

Such fun!!!! A really special day, to remember. :-)

Jane...I love Adele too....and I sing her songs often! She really is a soulful being!

thanks for popping by to visit with me. I'm now following you..and I'd love to have you back again....anytime!

ciao bella

For my wedding hair do I couldn't decide whether to wear it up or down...so I did a bit of both! The top was all curled up and the bottom half came down in soft curls....boy that description was terrible...wasn't it! lol

Oh Dear Jane.....Your post today made me smile from ear to ear. You are such a beautiful woman......you could go to the wedding bald and you would look great. Pick a style you are comfortable in....as I read somewhere......and I quote "Know one will remember how lovely your looked or what you wore....but they will remember if you were gracious and welcoming." I tucked this one away in the vault and pull it out when I'm in a fashion dilemma.

Hugs sweet lady,

Jo

Definitely falsh eyelashes. They aren't expensive, so try them out. Also, experiment with a few hairstyles. I dance a lot at weddings so I would wear my hair up. It depends on how you want to feel for 12 hours.

Hi Jane!
Oh what a dilemma! I remember going throught he same thing when my daughter got married!
I love your dress and I think the direction you're headed with the hairstyle is FABulous...and I would ABSOLUTELY do the eyelashes...stir up the air a bit, too! LOL!
Most of all...just enjoy it! Have fun and know that you're beautiful however you decide to do your hair!

I had my make up done once, when my son got married. The next time I wear that much make up is when they do me up for my wake, LOL.
It does look better in the pictures.
I told, you my friend , mom of many boys , that as the mother of the groom you have to be quiet and wear beige! :)

Oh wow your wedding is coming soon. I like the picture of the hair pulled back but maybe only one flower, not so many. Remember eyes will be on the bride and you'll be having so much fun with all your family and friends in one spot at the same time---the dress is beautiful and I know you will look great!

Janie - you would look absolutely beautiful with that poufed ponytail with the flower! It looks so "wedding-gy" (my new word). I would do the false lashes, the pouf, the flower - the whole shabang, girl! Have a wonderful time at the lake, too! :)

Oh Jane, I LOVE the dress! (I had to go backward and catch up) It is just gorgeous! By all means get the false eyelashes....for sure! And the hair...I would suggest doing a test hair "do" a few days before the wedding and see how you like it....and if you don't love everything about it, just tweak it....and then on the big day you will have it all worked out!

You are definitely going to stand out!! Gorgeousness!! Can't wait to see photos!!

Have fun relaxing at the lake....it is still hot as haites down here!

Hey Blondie, I don't want to play devils advocate but just be careful with the eyelashes. I had them for months and LOVED the look but for some reason I developed an allergy to the glue. I had them put on with "sensativity" glue and same thing. My eyes were swollen and HORRIBLE.

Maybe you could try them on a few weeks before, just to make sure? It would be awful if you found that out on the day of the wedding. Just sayin'!!

bj said...

I love the last photo, WITH flowers. I think it would look perfect on you.
Get as many lashes as you possibly can and then go
STRUT YOUR STUFF, BLONDIE. !

Penny said...

You will be beautiful Jane. It is all in the way you are. But a few eyelashes would be great and a simple hairband accented with simple flowers would be perfect. I remember wanting to look my best at my Son's wedding and I have a feeling that you will be sensational. Enjoy your break and congratulations to all.
