A HAPPY NOTE

We all survived the blizzard of 2011. I actually slept through most of it, but was awoken by the thunder and lightening. Now, that is something I have NEVER experienced in all of my Midwestern years. I think the weather people were calling it Thundersnow.
The Husband made a wise decision to buy a snow blower back in December when they went on sale. It is amazing that we went so long without one but since we live on a city street, and there is just a short sidewalk and driveway, we got by. Boy, did he need it Wednesday. He went out several times as the snow kept coming down. Coming home from Ft. Meyers Beach on Tuesday, his was the last flight out until Thursday, so he just made it. The storm started just a few hours after he landed in Chicago.
Everything was closed down, shut down, The Husband closed his office. It felt like one long weekend with him home. We took a ride to get salt at a gas station a few blocks away and everything was deserted looking, just walls of snow on each side of the street. I didn't take any pictures because I thought maybe we had all seen enough snow pictures for one day.
Someone had a birthday Thursday. I still get excited on my birthday, I want the cake and balloons and everything. I woke up late Wednesday night to find Abby in the kitchen and she just dropped what she was doing and stared at me. Half awake, I didn't realize she was baking me a surprise. "We didn't have any cake mixes, so I'm making you birthday cookies." Oh, my heart nearly broke in half. Then she said, "And I'm doing a very neat job." I think she was referring to what a perfectionist I can be when I bake and cook. My little heart broke again.
So these are my birthday cookies and I even had one or two and blew off my diet. They were yummy. When son Jeff gets home from a trip to L.A., we will all go out to dinner to celebrate.
The Husband was able to sneak my gift into the house last night, these beautiful Coach boots. My little heart broke again. He knows me so well. They are suede so I have to wait for the crappy weather to get over to wear them. I really am a lucky girl. And if birthdays can always be like this, I don't mind getting older.

See you next week! :-)

Happy Birthday Jane, Your daughter did a good job on making your birthday cookies. They look so yummy and you can have hot chocolate, hot tea, or coffee to go with them. Your husband was lucky to get his flight and get home. I know some people that were stranded at an airport for way to long in their opinion. Haven't we had horrible weather this last month and starting of this. You made our news with the thunder. It is very unusual. I like your birthday boots. Stay warm and have a good weekend. Your Missouri Friend.

Finally - I can leave a comment - I've been having trouble (on my end)! Well I'm so glad your man got home before the blizzard. The pictures were amazing and that "snow thunder" weather guy was so funny. We had 50 mile per hour winds when the storm blew through our area and it's been below freezing for 3 days. Crazy weather for everyone. Well happy belated birthday, Jane. Your surprise cookies are wonderful. What a sweet family you have. xoxo Nancy

Happy Birthday, Jane. Glad your husband was home and your daughter was creative. It would have been sad to not be together. How fun to celebrate when you son gets home.

Today, we will finish unburying our daughters car.(She and I enjoyed the storm together at her place.) My husband gets home tonight, but our landlord says there is no place to park and our garage is in the middle of a huge and buried in snow alley. Should be an interesting night. :+)

Happy Birthday Jane! This was such a happy post and I'd much rather look at cookies than snow ann time. Yummy, now I want that chocolate muffin my daughter brought me home last night, lol.

Your hubby just came home from Ft. Meyers and another blogger friend is on her way there. We should have had a blogger convention there this week, so ya'll could avoid those blizzards and get in some beach time.

I heard that term "snowthunder" on the news and wondered about it, then I saw a clip with the guy from the Weather Channel and it occurred while he was being filmed. He got so excited, it was funny. I think I watched it half a dozen times. His reaction was great!

Glad your warm and fuzzy over such a great birthday, ain't life grand? Love those boots!

I am just getting to the computer. Happy, Happy Birthday Jane! I love your birthday cookies AND your Coach boots. Now RUN, don't walk, to any store that sells shoes and buy the water repellent spray. I spray every single suede and leather item I know with it. When you put the first spray on your heart will sink beause you will think you have ruined your boots. SOAK them with it...with 2 or 3 coats as they dry. You CANNOT tell it is on there and your boots, purses, etc. will be impervious to any weather conditions. I have shoes that WEAR OUT before they LOOK bad..lol. I even spray the insides of my shoes cuz it keeps the bottoms clean looking.

You are a blessed woman..but I think you know that! Hugs-Diana

Hi Jane, your cookies look wonderful. I love the boots! Happy B'day!

During the great storm of 1982...I call it that because it has been in the news again, for comparison, lately, we had thunder snow. Lots of thunder snow. That was one of only 2 times I missed work due to weather. I always managed to get there, even when it took 2 hours to drive 18 miles, because of floods.:-) The idea of thunder snow is it is like a regular thunderstorm, with lots of moisture, thus producing more snow. As far as I understand that is. I didn't read your comments, so someone may have mentioned why it's called thunder snow, already.
