~GOODBYE BLUES~

I really had to perk up after the last post. Wow, what a downer I sounded like and I'm usually not that way. Some of you identified with the winter blues and some of you had very positive attitudes. Almost all of you said I should go to Florida. With The Husband doing his 'business' thing from morning until evening...including dinners, I just didn't know what I would do with myself all alone. I'm like that and I wish I were more adventurous. Maybe next year...

After taking The Husband to the airport, I stopped at the grocery store to stock up on provisions. No one to take this little lady out to dinner. I couldn't resist these pretty tulips. Just walking by them cheers me up. They are the first flowers that come up in my garden, so they really remind me of spring.
So far they haven't opened so they may just hang around for awhile. After The Husband was safely carted off to said airport, I cleaned the house from top to bottom. Abby and I then got to work making a few of these...
...veggie pizza's. We used a pre~made crust and some Mario Batali marinara sauce and then just sauteed some veggies in olive oil for the topping. A sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and into the oven for 15 minutes. Emily and her boyfriend came over for this quick and easy dinner, too.
I will definitely keep some of these crusts on hand...It is so much less expensive than ordering out.
We spent most of the evening sitting in front of this, watching a movie. We then played some board games. I lost of course. But it was fun.
This is not what I munched on...in fact I have given up all of this good stuff. I joined Weight Watchers last week and I am really excited and optimistic to be on a program. You have to remember that son Kevin is getting married in August and I really want to look nice. Pictures can be brutal. After following a low carb diet for years, {and having great results for the first three years} it is wonderful to have fruit, bread and pasta again.
So my cupboards and fridge are all stocked up with good things and I have a great focus, something I truly need during these cold, long months. I know a few bloggers that are on the programs and it's fun sharing information and tips with them.
These little babies fill the house with their sunshiny smell every time I peel one. It makes me feel so good about myself. I will keep you informed about my progress. Have any of you tried Weight Watchers? What are you doing to get rid of those holiday pounds?
I haven't started to exercise, but I think I am going to give this DVD a try...I have to start out slow.
So we had a great Saturday night. Milo was a bit confused that The Husband didn't come home from work at his normal time. He is used to sitting here and waiting for the car to pull up.
And when the fire died, it was time for bed. This is the beautiful throw that I got at Ikea last weekend. It is SO soft. I love to take little naps with it. And I feel one coming on. I hope all of you are having a great weekend so far. If you are feeling a little down, like I was last week, make something homemade, throw a log on the fire and have some fun playing games with your kids. It works for me! :-)

Tulips are my very favorites, and were the first flowers brought to me when I was a teenager. I'll have to post on that one day.

Pizza looks so good! :)

Have a blessed day.

I love this post Jane, and I'm so glad you are feeling more upbeat! I am one of those who get the winter blues too so I can relate. Your evening sounds like it was perfect and I love the tulips, and that gorgeous throw! I need to join Weight Watchers and to exercise more! Best of luck with the program, I used it years ago after my daughter was born with great success!

Hi Jane. Glad you are over the blues. For me it is always the weather and here in Northern CA it seems like an eternity since the sun has peaked out. We get a high fog that can settle in for a few weeks at a time and we will have absolutely NO sunshine. I started taking extra Vitamin D a couple of years ago and I swear that it has helped. Love the pink
Tulips. They remind me that Easter is right around the corner which means Spring is not far away.
Big weekend hugs, Sue

Hi Jane,

I too have recently joined WW. Although none of my boys are getting married any time soon, I know I am in great need of slimming down. I can already feel the difference in my level of energy!! I love their new program. I had been to WW a few years back and lost 50lbs. But it has creeped back on so....here we go again! Thanks for the pick-me-up with the tulips. I am on my way out the door to pick some up for my house! Thanks for the inspiration.

I was happy with last week's results.

Hi Jane, Thanks for the Tulips...I needed those too. Glad you are feeling better. The pizza looks wonderful..all those veggies. I'm going to try making one myself this week... You've inspired me. I've been a little down myself these days, and it's due to the weather I'm sure(fog for days); and the Hub's new shift which leaves me home most evenings by myself. I love WW and have lost 34 pounds. The new Points Plus program is great! Love all the fruit, plus I feel so much better. Hugs, Mumzie

WW certainly works if you stick with it. The first 2 weeks are always the hardest.
I am not a "meetings" kind of girl I did mine online. I don't even like the little notes there patting me on the back. I like to be left alone and answer to myself. Cranky wasn't I? Probably from the lack of food. Lol.

Those tulips would perk me up too! As far as loosing weight, we bought a treadmill. I can't use it yet, have to wait until my shoulder is better. But I starting a new lifestyle. I am following a program called Healthy for Life. It is not a diet, but a change in eating habits. It sounds like it is something I can stick with.

Best wishes always,

Sounds like you have emerged from the deep end of the pool and I am glad! Good for you for joining WW. The fritatta recipe I posted a week or so ago was from the WW website and each little muffin was 3 pts each. Jane, those tulips are beautiful. I love tulips - especially if you can get them while they are closed up and wait for them to open and gracefully droop. Jane-It is nice to see you feeling more upbeat today. I think everyone gets in a little funk every once in a while.

Congrats on going on WW...I have been thinking seriously about going back. I lost a ton of weight (well, not actually a TON but you know what I mean) on a low carb diet too and I kept it off for several years. The thing is that once you are OFF that it is almost impossible to get back on it...and I do think WW provides a healthier alternative. It is just kinda scary to be eating carbs again, isn't it? I mean..the last time I was on WW I was at a meeting and some gal asked..so can I have a FULL tablespoon of MUSTARD with my sandwich..and I thought, Honey..I didn't get this way eating an extra tablesspoon of MUSTARD. I think taking weight off and KEEPING it off has been the hardest thing for me ever.

Have a great night..enjoy your "vacation" while your hubby is gone. Love that you bought tulips just for you...spoil yourself a bit because it is kind of a vacation for you too! Hugs- Diana

Awwww, I'm so happy you got yourself perked up! The tulips are lovely, the pizza looks delish, and the fire place is lovely! And feeling empowered, by having a life style eating plan, adds to the perk up. :-)

I'd not want to go along on a business trip, and be on my own either. Especially to FL. When we stayed down there a while, one year, it was so hard to get around. Drive, drive, drive. Ugh.

Plus, I'm one of the few who do not *lust* over FL. Hate the ice up here, but don't want to escape Winter, by going to FL. -grin- Hey it takes all kinds. ,-)

Hi Jane,

Glad your spirits are lifted. I rather enjoy the slight melancholy of winter when I can hole up in the house and sit in front of the fire with my candles and my wine. I almost think those feelings are part of the natural rhythm of life.
