BEAUTIFUL DAYS~~

Yesterday was a beautiful day to get outside. The temperatures have been in the high 60's, which is strange because last week we were wearing winter coats and mittens. Go figure. I realized that I hadn't taken any outdoor pictures of my fall decor and I thought I'd share a little with you. I didn't do as much as I usually do because I wasn't up at the lake as much to buy the usual straw, pumpkins, gourds and other fun stuff. Having to pay Chicago prices, I kept it at a minimum.
I also heard about an end of season sale at Kohls recently and coupled with a trip to CVS, I found some great fall items to stock up on for next year; place mats, runners, napkins and candles. I couldn't even look in the Christmas aisles.
I like to leave my fall things out until the weekend after Thanksgiving...
...especially outdoors. The squirrels didn't get these pumpkins because Milo is usually standing guard in the window.

We have missed a few weekends at the lake but I still want to get up there soon to see how the leaves have changed, to feel the acorns crunching under my feet. I want to have a bonfire and roast hot dogs and marshmallows. Once December comes, we will be too busy to go. Has anyone started their Christmas shopping yet?
My mums are still going strong. I think the key is lots of water. I give them a good drink every other day.

How does everyone like having shorter days since we turned the clocks back? I like when it starts to get dark out about 4:30...it's sort of a down time. The Husband doesn't usually get home from work until about 7:00 p.m., so I have a little stretch of time before I have to start dinner. I like to read or watch television of see what all of you are up to during that time. I'm planning my Thanksgiving menu, which rarely changes from year to year, and trying to come up with dessert ideas that I can make and freeze. This year dessert is at my house and although everyone makes something, I try to make at least a pie, cookies and a cake or tart {yes, this coming from the girl who doesn't like to bake}. Which brings me to a correction I want to make from my last post. The little cakelet pan was a big hit with so many of you but I mistakenly said that I bought it at Sur La Table when I actually ordered it from Williams-Sonoma. You can find it under New Bakeware. I'm glad so many of you liked it and would love to see some of your creations.

So that is all that is really going on with me. Just enjoying these beautiful days and hoping you are too. I'm linking again with Courtney of French Country Cottage for Feathered Nest Fridays. Have a good week! :-)

Hi Jane!
Your fall decor looks so pretty...I'd definitely leave it up for awhile. With our house STILL on the market, it's hard for me to find the motivation to do much holiday decorating. Of course, I will definitely be in the swing by Christmastime...my fav. holiday of the year!

As for the time change, I'm not liking it too much. I'm waking up every morning now around 5:30 AM. UGH! Have a good one!

It's almost 80 degrees here so I'm with you. I can't even look at Christmas decorations yet. Fall seems so fleeting anyway. I love the pumpkins all lined up on the window! All of your fall decor is lovely!
I prefer they just leave the time alone. With kids, it's too much adjusting. Monday was great because they woke up early. But today they were all worn out.

Jane,
I'm soooooooooo with you on leaving the fall decor up until at least Thanksgiving dinner is over. It just doesn't seem right to have the Christmas decor up while you are celebrating with the Pilgrims!!!! And this is our year to do Christmas here so that means a HUGE PUSH to get it all decorated. After hurting my back again last week (blew out that pesky weak disc again) I'm thinking of hiring someone to help me get all the magic of Christmas done. Your Mums are still beautiful. MINE TOO! I love your photos of the lake! I know you love going there too. And those cookies you showed in the last post are adorable!!! I too am suffering (but, not being very good at times) with the "stay away from sweets". THAT'S NO FUN! I hate the time change. I seem to run out of day before I'm ready. Have a great week. HUGS!

Hi Jane, we have had warm weather here in SW Iowa too. Apparently it is scheduled to end tonight. I guess it is November. Your outdoor decor is really nice. I am lucky to get my indoor decor up, so I don't even attempt the outside stuff. Maybe when I retire and have a little more time on my hands.

Very cute autumn decor! I love your new fall ladie figurines. I almost stopped at Kohls on my errands yesterday but was trying purposely not too. LOL! I do like it getting darker earlier too, especially when it's cooler outside. That means more snuggle time indoors!

Love your fall stuff! :) Lucky you on the finds at Kohl's. I LOVE Kohl's.

I adore the time change. :) Always have. Nothing like candlelight and lamps in the evening to make the house all cozy and warm. I think it is relaxing. :) The Hubster hates the change because when he leaves for work it's dark and when he returns home it's dark.

I'm so glad you are enjoying this Indian Summer. It has been in the 60's here in Ohio this week too. They say we will hit 70 by Friday.

I'm not fond of the shorter days. It is dark when I go to work and it is almost dark when I come home.

I have a few things bought for Christmas, but not as much as usual and that makes me a little uneasy.

Enjoy the rest of your week! La

I am enjoying the time change right now. I always think, if it's going to be cold outside, I may as well light the fire and turn on all the lamps in the house and sit back and relax.
My husnand is on the night shift right now. So I watch a lot of movies in the evenings.

Janie,
everything looks so beautiful. I love the pots of mums. I should get some for my front yard. They really catch me eye when I come home from work and spot them on my neighbors lawns.

I do like that it gets dark earlier but that does put a damper on late shopping as I do not like to drive at night. Lately the husband and I have been sitting out in the back chatting away about our day and just holding hands. It's a nice down time for us and usually right after we are ready for bed. It's so nice just to be away from the laptop and television for a spell.

Hi Jane~ Loving your pumpkins on your windowsill and your new finds are so cute! I have a couple of pumpkins out yet... but that's about it. The weather here has been crazy as well... last week we were being dumped on and had cold air coming in and this week we are warming up again with lots of nice sunshine! Not complaining- I love the warmer weather!
Thanks so much for sharing at Feathered Nest Friday again this week! :)

Hi Jane...

How are you doing, sweet lady? Thought I would come by and say hello and see what you've been up to!

Oooh...all of your autumn decor looks gorgeous, Jane! Love how you lined up the pumpkins on the window ledge! Ohh...and your mums are gorgeous! I haven't even bought any mums this year...boohoo! Ohhh...and I love, love, LOVE your pretty autumn angels...they're beautiful! I just love things like that! Well sweet friend, I do hope that my note finds you and your sweet family all doing well! It sounds like you are about to get busy with Thanksgiving right around the corner! I'm not sure what exactly that we are doing yet. It may just be the two of us.

Have a wonderful weekend, Jane!
Love ya,

Very nice! I couldn't wait until Oct arrived ~ it's my favorite month as it cools down here in Texas. Seems it flew by and here we are almost at Thanksgiving. I love to bake! If we lived near each other, that would be a fun project. :-)

I do not like the time change. I honestly don't understand it as I think we need more sunlight during the winter months ~ we already have it in the summer. Of course, the powers that be have never contacted me for my opinion either. :-)

Have a great weekend!

I still have my gourds and pumpkins scattered about too - they are too gorgeous to hide away yet!

Like you Jane, I really enjoy the early dusk - there's a definite feeling of quietness, a smell of Autumn which is very different from Summer evenings. I love to sit out in the gazebo with my cuppa around 4:30 pm and just listen to the birds and squirrels shuffling in the leaves and acorns (we have millions!). My bluebirds returned this week and you can tell the squirrels have been fattening up for Winter - they are chunky!

Your decor is so pretty - love those ladies - and the pumpkins lined up on the window sill!

Have a fabulous weekend dear. Nice weather here. Bob is off today to work in the UK for a week - he's the busiest retiree I know! Hopefully I'll have time to get caught up on a lot of things, and still make time for those evenings outside as Winter draws in!!
Hugs - Mary

Oh Jane - it would be just GORGEOUS up at the Lakehouse this time of year. How can you not go? (I'd being dying a slow death . . . ) LOL! I did love our little trip last weekend.
I just CANNOT do the Christmas thing this early either. But I will admit I am going to my favorite antique store today and am meeting a bloggy friend and if I happen to find any little vintagey decorations there - I might just have to snatch them up!
I am thinking of shaking things up around this Thanksgiving . . . we'll see if I can make it happen!
:) Have a great weekend. GO have that bonfire my Friend!
Hugs! Karen

Lovely to see your fall decorations. Amazing that it could be so mild still where you live. I'm still getting used to the early dark! Best to you--Jacqueline

Hi,
I just love those angels you found. I like to leave my fall stuff out until after Thanksgiving, too.

Everything is so pretty! Love the pumpkins under the window...it is sort of sad that I have already taken all of my fall stuff down...except for the wreath on my front door! I have bought two Christmas gifts and my oldest son, Seth and I are going to venture out on Black Friday and I am going to try and get everything finished!

Tall order I know....I may fail...
