~NESTING~

Happy middle of the week. We have survived the wind and rain here in the Midwest, and today is sunny. Yay! I have to admit, I like the rain in the fall, it can be gentle and soothing, especially at night when I hear it on the roof. It lulls me to sleep. Which leads me to the picture of the master bedroom above. I did a post awhile back about the duvet cover I found at Pottery Barn. I was waiting for the pillow shams to come before I put it on my bed, but I finally caved and did it anyway. {Please ignore the stack of magazines piled on the floor, I have told you before that I subscribe to a zillion}. It made me look around and want to get sorted out. I had found some really neat baskets from Wisteria and I am sorting out everything piled on my quilt stand. We are starting to need those quilts for snuggling and they are buried under my sewing things, books and the throw pillows that I bought during a recent pillow frenzy. Anyway, I love the duvet, it has a sort of rough antique wash that makes it look and feel really old. I am really loving it. It is one of the few times I have paid full price at PB. And I broke down and ordered the European pillow shams. I'm sleeping good.
I went to Target to look for a ruffly shower curtain {they didn't have it, but I found it online and ordered it}. I made daughter Abby promise that she wouldn't let me buy anything else. Along with some sweat pants, a couple of pairs of boots and a jacket, I found these salad plates, a set of four, marked down to $6.98. I literally froze in front of them. I had made a promise to myself...no more dishes. But this was just too good to pass up. They are perfect for fall. I'm planning on having Kevin and Mary Clare here for dinner and I'll take pictures of the table all set. Oh, and I found this wonderful burlap tablecloth at Wisteria also. I love the smell of it in the morning mixed with my Honeysuckle Jasmine candle and Vanilla Dunkin Donuts coffee. Heaven.
I love the pale green color...like a Granny Smith apple.
I promised to show off my goodies from the Shop The Shed Party we went to last week at the home of Joy from Savvy City Farmer. By the way, Joy mentioned there are still things for sale if you want to contact her. If you saw anything you like in my pictures from my last post, you might want to email her. This is a pillow that Joy made. It was love at first sight and I was clutching it like a baby blanket throughout the sale.
I love the fabric and the hemp tied closure on the side. How creative is this?
You can see it on my bed in the first picture.
I also bought this post that Joy made out of salvaged wood and then filled with a sheaf of wheat. I'm going to bring it up to the lake to put on the hearth. She actually had 4 of these for sale and might have a few left...
It's been a busy week without really going anywhere in particular. Sunday I baked some cranberry~orange bread which I am happy to say I did not so much as sample! My restraint has been admirable...
And I have been purging, er...cleaning up a lot of clutter. The magazine stack for instance. The hall closet, my den. Emily sat me down for a daughter~mother talk, starting with the subject of the UPS man stopping by every afternoon {and not to chat}. She is convinced I am becoming a hoarder. I argue that I am simply not that organized. I function better when I can see everything. She differs, and so with a few days off from school, she got to work whipping the house {and me} into shape. The den is the dropping ground for all my purchases, the way some of you use the dining room table. It's a formal/never gets used room, so all my purchases and things I am going to bring to the lakehouse and forget, go into this room. You couldn't walk through it. Well today you can. Everything for the lake is boxed. We made about 5 large bags of stuff I didn't need. I couldn't even remember where I got half the stuff. Emily's philosophy is that if I don't have a place to put it, I can't buy it. I am going to try to abide by that. ;-D
Sorry for such a long post. Papa stopped by in the middle of writing it and I gave him the rest of the cranberry~orange bread. I'm safe having it out of the house. I hope everyone is having a wonderful week, whether it's cleaning, baking, sorting or just trying to not blow over in the wind. I'm linking up with Courtney of French Country Cottage for Feathered Nest Friday. Have a great day! :-)

That's a lovely duvet. It reminds of your blog background. I am sure you are excited about getting the shams.I can see those magazines. You must lie in bed and read through them all. I'm with you on that.
You found some great and unusual pieces. It must have been difficult to not taste your homemade bread. Looks yummy.

Gorgeous duvet! I think it's good to splurge on something you use a lot, like bed linens. After furniture, it's the largest piece in the room. Your whole house seems warm and inviting. Bread sounds delicious!

So many lovelies Jane!! I love the duvet and I have that same stack of magazines on my side of the bed, lol!

I surely could not have passed on those sweet salad plates although I too have made a similar promise to myself.

As usual, such a pleasant visit my friend :)

Hey Jane, your wind and rain marched itself right on down here. We just had a heck of a storm and there is a tornado watch on. But like you, I like the rain, especially in the fall. It makes the house feel so cozy. I love reading your post. They are so homey. I like your daughter's philosophy about if there is no room for it don't buy it. I have a rule that is I buy a piece of clothing I have to get rid of something else. It works and keeps the closet nice and organized. xo Lynn

LOVE the duvet! And I LOVE that little white bird vignette that you have on the sill. Is that one piece?
On the magazines... I Laughed... we had a flood last year in our lower level & guess what? All those magazines I had been saving... all got tossed without another glance. I wondered what I was saving them for. Now my stash is just as high...

I would have bought those plates too if I saw them at that price, Janie. Love the color! And I love your duvet, the color is similar tot he plates, right? And I love your 4 posted bed, so pretty! It's funny about your UPS guy story. Our UPS guy sees John in the hospital and tells him his wife is quite an internet shopper cause he just delivered something for me again. This is such a small town and everybody knows about everybody, except me cause I really do not mingle except for a very small group, actually 2 friends, lol. But one time, we were entertaining having a dinner party and the doorbell rings at 7:30 PM. Wouldn't you know that it was the UPS delivery man again? So, hospital people say we have a delivery everyday from my shopping, lol!....Christine

Oh Jane, your bed looks beautiful! I'd leave the stack of magazines, so that I could curl up under that gorgeous duvet and enjoy my magazines. But you hit a little too close to home when you started talking about being a hoarder. My philosophy is the same is your daughter's - if I don't have a place for it, I shouldn't buy it. Unfortunately, I just shove stuff on shelves in front of other stuff, and my home looks like an over-crowded junk store. NO MORE! I've got to stop, but oh no! I am a first-time visitor to your blog, and I have to say----I LOVE it! You have wonderful taste in decorating, a great sense of humor, and a boatload of talent. Your house is to die for--warm, welcoming, comfortable, and just too pretty! I'd love to decorate my home in a similiar style, except, well, my cats and puppy would have the entire thing for lunch. :) BTW, my son worked at Pottery Barn for a while. They had a really cool set of dining stuff (everything to set a lovely table)in a seascape/sea critter pattern. Can't remember the name, but....wow. I, of course, being the water baby that I am, ended up purchasing some, as did my son and his wife. Your lake house reminded me of it. Happiness to you!

Your bedroom looks lovely and the bread sounds delicious!

I've been thinking about getting rid of things that aren't being used and taking up too much space. I don't want to have a garage sale as I don't want to expose Bill's possessions in the garage to strangers and weather makes having a true "yard" sale a very iffy premise.

I have never done anything on ebay and the thought of packaging breakables and shipping things off seems like a lot of work.

(whine, whine, whine)

Hubby is currently selling office stuff on Craigslist, but they are stored elsewhere. Do I want strangers coming to the house?

I often donate things to the Salvation Army. Maybe I should gather it all and then decide. Wanna help? ;-)

I stop and think really hard before I buy something now ~ if I do not know where I am going to put it ~ it stays in the store. Of course that does not count for clothing! Loving that pillow ~ I am off to Home Sense soon to pick some up to match my new set. I promise to post about it once it is completed.

just as lovely.

It is beautiful! No wonder you were willing to pay full price...it looks so cozy!

I didn't have you pictured as a "gatherer of things"! I thought you'd be really organized, your house always looks that way! I saw on someone's post about using an old soda crate to hold magazines...I thought that was such a good idea. I may try it, hubby brought home a vintage Seven-UP crate a while back. I get a million magazines too!

Thanks for sharing your finds. Glad you didn't pass up the plates. I say I'm not going to buy more dishes, and then I see some I just have to have. A Home Goods opened here last week. That could be dangerous! LOL

The duvet is so pretty. I could go for a magazine collection like that. I also love your table setting and your use of straw. This post kind of put me in the mood to reorganize and make everything cozy and lovely.

Pretty bedlinens and that pillow is divine.

I love the humor in your posts and I must confess that the UPS man has been a regular at my doorstep too!

Your duvet cover looks beautiful and I'm looking forward to seeing the shams. I could never have passed up those lovely soft green plates either. Don't worry about having lots of stuff...you are not a hoarder. You have beautiful and useful things. We all have too much stuff. I'm trying to simplfy my life and my belongings.
Glad the storm didn't do much damage in your area and has now moved out. Enjoy a great week.

We've been trying to "whip" ourselves into ship shape around our houses too...must be fall - we'll be in the house (didn't notice things as much in the summer!!) Love the duvet...so glad you broke down - it's too pretty not to enjoy while you wait!
Have a great week Jane!

Just had to laugh about the part where you froze in front of the dishes. I can soooo identify. I have the same problem ~ telling myself not to go down the dish isle and then my cart just turns and goes there all by itself.
